Best lip balm for my poor lips!

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 13/12/2018 18:19

My lips are dry all the time, I apply lip balm a lot and it makes little difference.

I've tried the following:

EOS
Burts Bees
Nivea
Vaseline
Nivea Intensive
Carmex

They're not sore, just dry and tight. I'm wondering if it's something else than just chapped though as I'm on HRT and this happened once before when I had low estrogen but I've been on same dose for 3 years now.

Any ideas?

Coconut oil?

JustWingingLifeAsUsual · 13/12/2018 19:13

Blistex Intensive Moisturiser. My God it is the best thing since... well, since anything!

A bit pricey but so worth it. I suffer from major dry, sore cracked lips on a regular basis.

I bought the Nuxe pot from M&S.... best I’ve ever used.

ItIsChristmasTime · 13/12/2018 19:17

Lansinoh nipple cream.

TheBitterBoy · 13/12/2018 19:21

La Roche Posay cicaplast baume, the one in a squeezy tube, although the one like a lipstick is good for maintenance once you are healed. I read that a lot of lip balms have ingredients that may irritate sensitive lips, such as menthol, and these set up a dry, balm, drier, more balm cycle which is hard to break. The LRP one is brilliant.

jalopy · 13/12/2018 19:24

Lanolips is very good.

Harebellmeadow · 13/12/2018 19:27

Blistex, the blue one, medi-something. Nothing else works for me, not even lanolin nipple balm.

Harebellmeadow · 13/12/2018 19:29

I avoid la roche possy because they put aluminum salts in most of their products and that cannot be good for anyone. Seems like the worst ingredient.

JosephineHass · 13/12/2018 19:36

Blistex!👍🏻

Dermymc · 13/12/2018 19:40

Are you drinking enough? Mine go tight when I'm dehydrated.

GinLimeandLemonade · 13/12/2018 19:40

I've only tried the hand protector out of this range, but this is meant to be amazing www.thebodyshop.com/en-gb/face/lip-balm/hemp-heavy-duty-lip-care/p/p000809

Drinking far more water than you think it's possible for a human to consume, plus Baume de Rose (By Terry). I feel nauseous at the thought of how much it will cost to replace the pot I was given - but it really is worth every unbelievable penny.

ChipsAreLife · 13/12/2018 19:43

Paw paw is great

IDrinkAndISewThings · 13/12/2018 19:44

Blistex, the one that comes in the metal tube that says it's for chapped lips and cold sores, or O'keefes, in an orange tube. Both absolute lifesavers

ParadiseLaundry · 13/12/2018 19:44

Definitely blistex and at £1.89 it will certainly be the cheapest one suggested here so definitely the one to try first!

fringegrin45 · 13/12/2018 19:47

My lips react to petroleum jelly type lip balms so I find Clinique lip gloss works better than any lip balms.

I also agree re dehydration

fringegrin45 · 13/12/2018 19:50

Pop splash not chubby or superbalm

SallieSallow · 13/12/2018 19:53

Lansinoh nipple cream is the only thing I’ve found that works for me, when I was using balms I had to re-apply them constantly all day otherwise my lips felt sore. I use lansinoh at night before bed and no longer need anything else.

Binglebong · 13/12/2018 20:07

I know you've tried carmax but was it the one in the squeeze tube? Only thing that works for me and I have tried many many things.

HermioneWeasley · 13/12/2018 20:08

Elizabeth Arden 8hour ointment. It’s magic

90mammasophie · 13/12/2018 20:40

Blistex. The one in the metal tube with little red lid.
Will sort them out after just a couple of uses.

Then as a daily lip balm I use Elizabeth Arden 8 hour balm which is fantastic but expensive. (Not the specific lip one, just the big tube)

MikeUniformMike · 13/12/2018 20:43

Apply sparingly. Some have ingredients that dry out your lips.Salicylic acid, for example.

Pinkvici22 · 13/12/2018 20:47

Another vote for Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream

StoneRoses4Ever · 13/12/2018 20:50

Aritaum lip mask (used as a lip salve in the day rather than overnight as per it's description) is the only lip balm that helps my lips which are dry, cracked and sometimes get a type of dermatitis thing called angular cheilitis in the corners. It doesn't totally sort it but it helps a lot. It's very sticky and lasts for hours.

RavenLG · 13/12/2018 20:58

How often are you applying? As over application can cause issues, most are full of drying ingredients and do more damage in the long run. Only apply a few times a day (morning, after meals, before bed) and look for something with fatty oils (avacado for example or shea). Avoid menthol or phenol as very drying.
