Concealing under eye circles without highlighting wrinkly skin

Is there an answer? Something I'm missing? Whenever I use undereye concealer my skin under my eyes looks really wrinkly and creepy. So I tend to go without but sometimes think it'd be great if I could conceal the shadows under my eyes more.

I conceal but then add a tiny bit of clear moisturising balm (Dr Hauschka Moisturising Eye Balm) to counteract any crepiness. Works for me anyway, but took a bit of trial and error with a variety of products until I found something that did.

coolcrispwinter · 27/11/2018 14:41

That's interesting. What concealer do you use?

I am the same and have so far not found anything that helps completely and I have tried a LOT of products and techniques.

Currently I pat on Rimmel Eraser using a micro beauty blender. It works OK.

I have heard good things about the FAB Bendy Avocado concealer and Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder, so they are next on my list!

OHolyNightOwl · 27/11/2018 14:45

Pippistrelle, what concealer do you use? Do you set with powder after? Will try it!

pippistrelle · 27/11/2018 14:47

At the moment, it's a cheap and cheerful one (I think maybe by Maybelline), especially for eyes so not so thick as some, and like a roll-on but with a sponge.

GOSH used to do a brilliant moisturising and illuminating primer but they discontinued it. I'm always on the look-out for a replacement product for that.

Ollivander84 · 27/11/2018 14:48

The bendy avocado concealer is fab, really light too

pippistrelle · 27/11/2018 14:50

It's Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer, but in many ways I don't think the concealer is important because until recently I was using a Clinique one. For me, it the moisturising balm afterwards that's important. But you do have to be careful with the amount - too much and eye make-up starts to slide down.

madmum5811 · 27/11/2018 14:50

I find the beauty blender ensures that it does not sit in lines. Lots of you tube tutorials.

coolcrispwinter · 27/11/2018 15:00

Thanks everyone. I think I'll be googling all these products. Smile

I use Benefit erase paste, now know as bo-ing brightening concealer. It's very creamy and tends to not highlight lines imo. I've got a few wrinkles but very dry under eye skin, more dehydrated then aged.

picklemepopcorn · 27/11/2018 15:11

Maybelline eye eraser is working for me at the moment. It took a while to work out how much to use- the sponge was too wet at first. Now I just pat the sponge end on, let it dry, then blend the edges out.

BusterGonad · 27/11/2018 15:21

Maybeline eye eraser is often named as the best under eye concealer.

janinlondon · 27/11/2018 15:22

No there is no answer. I can tell you this because I stand on packed London trains every day with literally THOUSANDS of women who think they have concealed something in their undereye area. They have not. They have highlighted the problem.

Villanelley · 27/11/2018 15:33

Sunglasses is the answer.

DamsonWhine · 27/11/2018 16:09

The Bobbi Brown brightening corrector serum thingy is the best I have tried but it slides into my eyes a bit so I have to set it with powder.

Bellabonkers · 27/11/2018 18:40

Yves saint Laurent touche eclait. It's expensive but works

potentiallypainful · 27/11/2018 18:54

Janin, have you been looking at me? Blush
Bobbi Brown corrector works quite well for me, but if I put concealer over the top as I was taught I seem to get the highlight effect.
Currently try Clarins eye brightener which is a bit less harsh but doesn't really cover the black circles.

I'd love a solution.

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 27/11/2018 19:29

Clarins. So good. This one...

I bought a "line smoothing concealer" on Saturday after consulting a Clinique lady about this exact problem but sorry is too early days to report back.

But the main tip she gave me is to put eye cream on before the concealer as dryness/dehydration can make it look crepier

Delatron · 27/11/2018 20:57

An amazing eye cream first (hyaluronic acid is good). So area hydrated. I just dab on a radiance concealer sparingly (bourgeois). Though I do avoid the crows feet area and stick to my dark circles which aren’t so wrinkled.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 28/11/2018 00:08

My trick for this is nip to the ladies every so often and “iron out” where the concealer has settled with a foundation brush, works a treat.

RosieCockle · 28/11/2018 00:42

I agree with the Clarins being the best I've tried so far.

Sethis · 28/11/2018 00:46

Hemorrhoid cream? Maybe not long term usage though. More of a special occasion thing.

Plentyofshoes · 28/11/2018 11:35

I use the Clinique smooth line one and it is great.

nothingwittyhere · 28/11/2018 17:56

Maybelline one is great because it's a thin texture but high coverage so you don't need to use much. I've got the Clarins one in the lightest colour and find the coverage useless. I often wonder if the people that love it are using a different shade.
