Where to buy a simple piece of jewellery with some inheritance from my lovely grandma

My budget is up to £1000 because I would like it to last and be good quality.
Possibly to be able to pass it on to my daughter in future.
I prefer white gold and don’t like anything fussy.

I don’t care about labels or where it’s from, so not Tiffany etc.
Thinking a ring or a necklace.
Any recommendations please.
When I went out to have a look in my local city it made me feel emotional so I couldn’t think straight. 😢

How about some diamond clicker earrings like these? I bought a pair last year during the black Friday sales and haven't taken them out.

How about a nice watch? That's always going to be a good usable piece for your offspring

Those hoop earrings are gorgeous.
I really like them.
I wouldn’t wear a watch unfortunately.

A visiting friend bought a very stylish diamond ring from Sarah Hickey recently. All hand crafted in my lovely market town. I believe that she takes commissions too www.sarahhickey.co.uk/product-category/rings/page/2/

Annoushka has some lovely jewellery. For your budget you could get an eternity ring.

White gold is usually yellow gold that is plated, so doesn't stay "silver" coloured over time. I wouldn't buy white gold for that reason.

I would probably invest in some diamond studs, a diamond ring or something fabulous in sterling silver. Silver can be cleaned up beautifully although it's a softer metal of course than gold. Probably the best metal is platinum as it's the silver colour you want through and through, and it's very hard, (harder than gold/white gold or silver). You can get platinum and diamond rings for £1000 or under if you look on the internet.

Although second-hand is good, I personally equally like just buying a ready-made piece direct from a jeweller. If I like a piece, it's pretty and I love it (and will wear it) then I'm personally not bothered about "getting more bang for my bucks" and all that, squeezing out maybe £1250 of product from £1000. Sometimes it's nice to have the experience of just going and choosing something from a jewellers rather than searching the second hand places looking for more of a bargain etc. (Each to their own though.)

Also, they don't seem to be that popular on here because they aren't second hand, or custom made, and people moan about the mark-up for the brand, or a kind of reverse snobbery, but I think many Tiffany pieces are gorgeous and very well made. Tiffany is classic and iconic and holds its value well because it is a brand, unlike generic jewellers unless the quality of the stones and the metals is extremely good. Tiffany also have a polish and restore service I believe.

I'd avoid earrings as too easy to los and would go for a platinum diamond solitaire necklace

Mymadworld · 23/11/2018 11:28

Ooops they'll teach me to read to the end Blush get some plastic retainers for your earrings as I lost one of mine after it got caught in a bobble hat or something similar

Mymadworld · 23/11/2018 11:29

And that will teach me to not read properly Grin great choice it's beautiful

O'Reillys.com have jewellery auctions every month.
They are in Dublin - you could incorporate a mini break - Sunday is a viewing day.
They are reputable.
