How do famous people get such firm jawlines?

Watching strictly and marvelling that Tess Daly is apparently 49 and yet has a completely firm jawline. I mean, you could cut cheese with it.

Ditto Gwyneth Paltrow. I mean, I know they’re both gorgeous anyway, but they’ve got 10 years on me and I have way more in the way of jowls. How? Is this a thing I can pay for or do I just have to go through life looking like I’ve swallowed a dinner plate?

Lots of plastic surgery

rightreckoner · 04/11/2018 20:33

I am obsessed with this due to my own weak jawline. I’ve concluded that ‘beautiful people’ on tv and in film actually have massive jaws and chins. Check out Reece Witherspoon for example. Her chin goes on for ever. But it works really well on screen because it’s defined from all angles.

You can have a big nose or some other ‘wrong feature’ in film but you can’t have a weak chin. That is my scientific conclusion from hours of exhaustive study !

I think you can get filler in the jaw which makes it look tight

dawnacorns · 04/11/2018 20:40

Don't they have some kind of thread thing where it gets pulled back with thread? not sure of the technical term. Quite surprised she's 49 Shock

ProjectGainsborough · 04/11/2018 21:11

I love the amount of thought that’s gone into that, @righteeckoner!

Damn genetics though. I want something you can buy.

I read that Gwyneth is a fan of ultherapy. But then I also read it melts peoples faces. So that put me off a bit.

Fillets in their jawlines and lipo most likely

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 04/11/2018 21:24

Fillers not fillets

Delatron · 04/11/2018 21:35

I think radio frequency facials tighten jawlines.

Agree neither are jowly for their age. I’m not sure filler would firm the jaw. Tess has had lots Botox for sure but I was marvelling how her eyes aren’t crepey (Botox can only do crows feet not under eyes). She does look good for 49. She’s had good work done I think.

MrsMarigold · 04/11/2018 21:50

Thread lifts

CS12345 · 04/11/2018 22:03

Good question. I marvel at it too. Amanda Holden is another with a great jawline. Sadly, I don't know the difinitive answer on this one. I think a bit of filler in the chin and point of jaw is part of it though.

Delatron · 04/11/2018 22:05

I don’t know, wouldn’t filler look weird in the jaw? Some people Botox their jaw.

I actually think jowls are more ageing than wrinkles so would love to know.

museumum · 04/11/2018 22:07

Tv people are always quite angular to begin with. It’s what looks good on camera.

ScrambledSmegs · 04/11/2018 22:07

Apparently you can do facial exercises that help define your jawline/cheekbones etc.

I have no idea if they work, but I remember Nick Grimshaw (of all people!) talking about doing them.

Maximoo06 · 04/11/2018 22:11

Radio frequency lifts and tightens that area, ultherapy is a very strong version which has best results

CS12345 · 04/11/2018 22:12

Why would you Botox your jaw? There are no dynamic lines on your jaw! Filler in the chin and point of jaw doesn't look weird if done right - it just picks up the slack of a baggy jowl!

MynameisJune · 04/11/2018 22:16

For one they’re really thin so their faces haven’t gotten rounder and shrunk like most people who gains and lose weight. So no stretching of the skin to begin with.

Two healthy diet and lots of water to keep hydrated and help skin stay healthy.

Three access to the best facial care money can buy.

Four probably genetics, Blythe Danner looks fab for her age.

Delatron · 04/11/2018 22:19

I just read that Botox in the jaw is a new thing. A famous plastic surgeon was talking about it but can’t remember why it would work!!

I read face exercises are good. I also fancy radio frequency. Kept reading horror stories about Ultherapy so it put me off.

nancybelle · 04/11/2018 22:33

They might be less likely to sit on their phones and tablets looking downwards. They lift their chins skywards to the paparazzi! Apparently people nowadays are more likely to have double chins, even if slim everywhere else, due to our phone use.

Haworthia · 04/11/2018 22:34

Injectables.

I’ve seen it on Instagram. I don’t know why Instagram thinks I’m interested in fillers, because I’m really not, but it shows me those kind of account a lot!

KittyLover91 · 04/11/2018 22:40

Jaw and chin filler

evilharpy · 04/11/2018 23:55

I don't think I ever had a sharp jawline like that even in my late teens.

I also have a wobbly... I don't know what it's called. Not a double chin, but the bit underneath that joins your chin to your neck. I've always had it even when very skinny. I suspect the only way to get rid is to have it surgically removed.

Jayteedee · 05/11/2018 00:00

It's all to do with being slim - look at Tess' upper arms. I was joking with my partner that her and Claudia and Darcey are doing some sort of competitive diet. But no, if you really exercise and tone up that tightens the jaw a lot.

JennyHolzersGhost · 05/11/2018 00:00

Fillers. It’s also where the ubiquitous chipmunk cheeks come from.

chocolatebox1 · 05/11/2018 00:00

It's a thread lift in younger people and a face lift in older ones. A little bit of filler can pin the jaw back but it would require a thread lift once the face starts to drop

ijustwantasofa · 05/11/2018 00:04

evilharpy turkey neck. Not an insult - I have it too even when I was skinny. I hate it!
