People who waft about in lovely loungewear, teach me your ways..

I think I have cracked workwear (silk blouses, wide leg trousers and the occasional statement item like a leather skirt) but look like an utter frump around the house. Once I get home from work, I end up putting on the same old tracksuit bottoms and raggedy jumper. It makes me feel like a complete slob. I’d really like to be able to waft around the house wearing something effortlessly comfortable and still manage to look slightly stylish.

I’ve tried Hush joggers and harems, but to be honest they just don’t suit me – I prefer wide leg trousers or leggings, because a loose cut and cuffed ankle looks ridiculous with slippers, to say nothing of socks...! and whilst a cashmere loungewear set sounds lovely, I know I would get toothpaste down it in half a day.

What do you all wear for Netflix marathons and lazy evenings at home? Please help me find some warm, comfy and practical ‘lounging about’ clothes that will wear well, aren’t made of nylon fleece and will help me feel a bit more together. Flowers

Great thread, and a boot up the proverbial to sort out my horrible efforts at loungewear. But op, your workwear sounds fabulous - where do you shop?

PouchofDouglas · 06/11/2018 06:54

Gap body. The stuff in modal . But make sure all of it is from the same colour way. I do pastel mint and pink.

Do not do thick fleece, cute pyjamas comedy bears or reibdeer

GhostCurry · 06/11/2018 07:53

“Off Duty Ballerina is exactly how I imagine myself in my loungewear utopia, and the total opposite of my current effort! Thank you, I now have a goal/ muse, and a new Pinterest page full of loungewear things that I very much need.”

So glad to have helped! I recommend watching Black Swan (but careful not to develop an eating disorder in the process) or maybe just looking at some stills to get some inspiration! Basically it’s all about pale pinks and greys. Can’t go astray with black white and cream either.
Such a dreamy look, isn’t it - and nice to have an overall theme to pull it all together. It also works very well with scraped-back hair which is what I always have at home!

TwllBach · 06/11/2018 08:02

I have found my fantasy people! I would love to have lounge wear. Unfortunately, I am very very broke haha. My pyjamas are a mosh mash of old tops, 5 year old bad choices and stuff that no longer fits.

I did, however, treat myself to a pair of pyjamas from Boux Avenue —via my BNPL catalogue— that are the traditional style, wide leg trousers with a long sleeve jacket type top. They’re navy with a pink floral pattern and I LOVE THEM. I don’t wear them during the day - I put them on after DSis in bed and I’ve had a shower and then take them off for bed. They make me feel proper swish GrinBlush

When I am a grown up and have disposable income I, too, will be going for ODB though

Bestseller · 06/11/2018 08:07

Oh, Oh, Oh, first where do you get the wide leg trousers? This is my aspirational style but I really struggle to find the trousers.

Around the house I love Kettlewell's Jersey trousers. A bit smarter than joggers and even more comfortable. Ideally with a cashmere jumper.

TheWombat · 06/11/2018 09:02

I think Ghost might have hit it with the colour palette - that might be partly where I’m going wrong. I do have a colour palette that I stick to at work, mainly neutrals with pale pink / chambray blue for contrast. Might aim for the same colours for my ODB look as a starting point.. haven’t ever shopped in Boux Avenue Twllbach but that sounds v promising.

namastayinbed you are kind! TBH I shop far too much in the Reiss sale and need to branch out. I channel Gillian Anderson’s character in The Fall - fine knitwear, neutral basics and silk on the top half. For wideleg trousers I have a lot of success with Reiss’ Anakin trousers (they are high waisted and make your waist look really small) - they bring out a new version every year. Generally I look pretty rubbish in cigarette pants but I’ve had success with The White Company Cambridge trousers - side zip, stretchy and machine washable!

I also quite like John Lewis Modern Rarity for trousers and silk tops - but you need to try the stuff on - the website looks horrific so don’t make any assumptions until you’re wearing it!
I buy in the sale, all at one time, so that I know it all goes together.
OK sorry for the derailment- back to lovely cosy and comfortable loungewear..

Id love to look like an off duty ballerina, unfortunately i'm closer to this pic than black swan.

TheWombat · 06/11/2018 20:50

Lwmommy with me it’s just a distinct lack of grace...am constantly stumbling about in a v non ballerina like way!
I may have resolved my ‘too cold in leggings’ issue - with the help of these thermal leggings from M&S: www.marksandspencer.com/heatgen-thermal-leggings/p/p22406571?prevPage=srp

They are the softest and warmest thing ever! Am planning on building my ODB outfits around them (cashmere will have to wait until after Christmas sadly..)

which was recommended by @GhostCurry on this thread about nightwear rather than loungewear

Off Duty Ballerina - I love it!!

TheWombat · 12/11/2018 19:26

Off duty ballerinas, in case you’re still interested, Mint Velvet has a very ODB-esque loungewear section:

I love this thread!

CountFosco · 03/02/2019 14:47

I am currently wearing these with a grey v-neck cashmere jumper which is very comfy. Admittedly I did change for going outside but feeling very wafty at home.

dudsville · 03/02/2019 16:49

My lounge wear at the moment is a large blue-grey jumper and a pair of elasticated waisted corduroy pocketed "trousers". I have trousers in quotes because I wouldn't wear them in to the city, but I'm quite happy to answer the door and take out the bins in them! I have a series of house shoes but the current favourites for winter are fleece-lined and happen to be plaid. This outfit goes in the wash at the end of the weekend, ready for off duty wear next weekend!

Gogreen · 03/02/2019 16:52

Absolutely primark, there bottoms paired with their plain shirts and a cardigan make for lovely lounge wear

TellItLikeItReallyIs · 11/02/2019 19:58

I just had this site come up in an advert on MN and the clothes on it reminded me of this thread and the whole "off duty ballerina" idea.

The linked page is lots of mohair but there are cotton and sorts of other stuff on there. Anyone bought anything from this brand?

Three quarters of Instagram seem to go around in brightly coloured running tights/sports leggings, a vest top and a loose top over it.

Admittedly, it's the half who are making a mint from doing cleaning videos, but I think running leggings feel absolutely wonderful, wash up brilliantly and lets face it, it's the nearest I get to a gym these days are perfect for staying at home but not feeling constricted or scruffy.

Inneedofadvice27 · 12/02/2019 03:17

Jockey do a lovely range of loungewear, some lovely fine knit super soft long cardigans in the grey and pink...

SPARKS17 · 12/02/2019 03:39

Does yoga wear count? I live in Asquith stuff at home, it’s made from bamboo, lovely quality and I have been known to pop to the supermarket in it.

Their batwing tops are really comfy and soft for lounging.

MonsterKidz · 12/02/2019 04:20

I have 3 pairs of Next loungewear joggers, all in black. They are extremely comfy but I still feel ‘dressed’, I’ve worn them on long plane journeys etc, in fact that’s why I bought the first pair and it’s grown since then.

I wear them on top with long sleeve loose fitting tops. I can’t wear anything too warm in the house, I’m too busy and need to be able to move freely for cooking/dealing with the children.
