People who waft about in lovely loungewear, teach me your ways..

I think I have cracked workwear (silk blouses, wide leg trousers and the occasional statement item like a leather skirt) but look like an utter frump around the house. Once I get home from work, I end up putting on the same old tracksuit bottoms and raggedy jumper. It makes me feel like a complete slob. I’d really like to be able to waft around the house wearing something effortlessly comfortable and still manage to look slightly stylish.

I’ve tried Hush joggers and harems, but to be honest they just don’t suit me – I prefer wide leg trousers or leggings, because a loose cut and cuffed ankle looks ridiculous with slippers, to say nothing of socks...! and whilst a cashmere loungewear set sounds lovely, I know I would get toothpaste down it in half a day.

What do you all wear for Netflix marathons and lazy evenings at home? Please help me find some warm, comfy and practical ‘lounging about’ clothes that will wear well, aren’t made of nylon fleece and will help me feel a bit more together. Flowers

I second BAM and also The white company lounge wear is great.

Woolovers do lovely loose ,plain lounge pants and waterfall cardigans. I got the navy , and they're lovely to wear around the house with vest top or long sleeve top when cooler. They wash v well.

Gogreen · 05/11/2018 07:49

Yes I agree! Primary do these lounge wear pjs. They are actually really reallly nice!

Starfish83 · 05/11/2018 09:51

Following. Great thread, thanks OP!

Processedpea · 05/11/2018 09:53

I like check shirts and uniqlo legging trousers which are currently on offer at £12 uniqlo do lots of soft lounge wear

Annasgirl · 05/11/2018 10:00

Oh thanks guys - that me and em site is amazing. But I'm a total skinflint!!! Maybe when I get a new job, and my kids leave home...

I love Primark loungewear, I wear wide leg silky bottoms and a coordinating vest top, or wide leg cotton with a vest top. Comfy and I can answer the door.

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 05/11/2018 10:22

This year I've ditched all my wide trousers and am living in bamboo leggings and long tunics instead. I'm terribly short so I think they look better on my legs, which are ok. Having said that, I don't think anyone cares what I wear at home. I work FT and always change into comfies as soon as I get home. DH once said that he loved seeing me in my grotty PJs when he got home because it meant I was relaxed. Actually, all it meant was that they were easy to throw in the wash when I'd fed and bathed the DCs!

Great recommendation re Misha Lounge, @ElspethFlashman.
ASOS have also just released another batch of their really lovely print pyjamas. If you search ‘modal pyjamas’ you’ll find them. Although annoyingly they are already selling out in lots of sizes.

I can recommend Chelsea Peers

0teaandtoast0 · 05/11/2018 12:43

I'll second the M&S joggers - flattering and comfortable! I was quite impressed when I had a look in store the other day, so if you have a chance to go in and try some on it might be a good idea. They're all very reasonably priced too.

bellinibobble · 05/11/2018 15:27

Have you looked at Onepiece jumpsuits? I'm not sure if you'd consider them fancy enough but they are sooooooo comfortable and not fleecy, so don't make you sweaty.

I have 4 :|

TheWombat · 05/11/2018 19:29

Those of you who waft in leggings - do you find them warm enough? I always gravitate to a onesie with ears and a tail thick joggers because I feel like leggings will be cold...

Also in my hunting I discovered these beautiful slippers: www.sheepers.co.uk/?s=slippers&post_type=product

I’m —short— petite and whenever I try to wear joggers or pyjamas, I just feel sloppy. The only look that I feel cute in is big socks, leggings and a big jumper/cardigan.
The leggings I get from People Tree. Not expensive and they last.

GhostCurry · 05/11/2018 19:45

“Those of you who waft in leggings - do you find them warm enough? I always gravitate to a onesie with ears and a tail thick joggers because I feel like leggings will be cold...”

Yes, provided you have the aforementioned big socks and big jumper. Slippers work too. I just feel like as soon as I put slippers on with joggers or anything loose, I feel awful about myself!

SimplyPut · 05/11/2018 19:48

H&M wide leg jersey trousers in black, a fitted vest top and a jersey waterfall cardigan.

I have the cardigans and vests in grey and burgundy and feel comfortable but dressed enough to answer the door!

TheWombat · 05/11/2018 19:55

Ghost I know what you mean. I wonder if leggings and a super long cardigan with layers under it would be a good -and warm-compromise..
Also, and hear me out on this: what about legwarmers? photo attached of leg warmers /leggings /long cardigan wafting combo..

Model looks cute in those leg warmers. Not sure in could pull it off. I’d feel like Sue Pollard.

TheWombat · 05/11/2018 20:55

You are right, it is Pollard territory. I am heading to M&S and Primark tomorrow, will keep you all posted...

Dontfeellikeaskeleton · 05/11/2018 20:56

The model has the benefit of perfect genes though. Kinda helps.

GhostCurry · 05/11/2018 21:11

Oh I have a pair of leg warmers and absolutely wear them! Much like the model in your pic, I’m aiming for an idealised “off-duty ballerina” look. (I say idealised because whenever I see actual off-duty ballerinas I see a disappointingly high incidence of those bootleg jersey trousers that I find the opposite of chic.)

Notquiteagandt · 05/11/2018 21:21

Oysho and the white company are my go to for comfy loungewear layers for around the house.

TheWombat · 05/11/2018 22:23

Off Duty Ballerina is exactly how I imagine myself in my loungewear utopia, and the total opposite of my current effort! Thank you, I now have a goal/ muse, and a new Pinterest page full of loungewear things that I very much need.

ODB totally wears Etsy vintage kimonos (God they are beautiful!) and white company cashmere whilst drinking miso soup out of a hand thrown mug and pottering about, looking perfectly dishevelled but never slovenly...

I have to say that I find jersey trousers are my thing for loafing around the house. But then I've never been much of a wafter really, I think I'm too clumsy for it, any drapey or floaty clothing items tend to get caught on door handles and ripped. The exception to that are very hot days when I wear an empire waist maxi dress with a full skirt.

In winter I like Lands' End Starfish trousers with a soft, floppy, oversized jumper, preferably a cashmere or silk blend.

TheWombat · 05/11/2018 22:54

bellinibobble that is an admirable commitment to the jumpsuit, truly (and they look toasty!). Sadly I am 5’9 ish and all jumpsuits give me an epic camel toe which is sadly not conducive to quality loafing Blush
