Is this dress ok for a wedding?

I hope so because I’ve fallen in love with it!

I’d wear it with my hair curly and pinned back, maybe half up half down, with a cream flower. Not sure about shoes but probably cream flats.

Wedding is early May so a while away, I think I’d need a cape with it.

What do you think?

Oh forgot to say, the bodice is velvet. If that makes a difference lol!

Sorry - it’s a no from me.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 29/10/2018 13:45

Because of the skirt or because you don’t like it?

OP posts:
MaryJenson · 29/10/2018 13:47

I like it 😊
Yes, because of the skirt. It’s too bridal

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 29/10/2018 13:51

Dang it. Maybe I’ll get it anyway.

I love it ! Could you have a pale colored / creamy pashmina ?

MaryJenson · 29/10/2018 13:54

Yeah. Wait and see what others say 😊
I may be outvoted

WhoisyourDaddyandwhatdoeshedo · 29/10/2018 13:56

only if the skirt was not cream

NeverHadANickname · 29/10/2018 13:57

I really like it. I didn't think bridal when I first saw it but now someone has said. Difficult to know without seeing the proper texture if you know what I mean. Do you know what the bridesmaid dresses are likely to be or know their color scheme? I'd be tempted to wear it.

schopenhauer · 29/10/2018 13:58

It is a bit bridal. I think in another colour it would be nice.

Bananacentral · 29/10/2018 13:58

I like it! And yes I think fine for a wedding.

Caprisunorange · 29/10/2018 13:58

There is nothing wrong with wearing cream to a wedding?! It’s perfectly suitable for a wedding, not my particular taste but not offensive

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 29/10/2018 13:58

I’ve just emailed the company (well I think I have, the bloody captcha thing was being a pain Hmm) to see what the skirt is made of. Thinking I could potentially dye it.

@Shazafied I don’t do well with pashminas, I love the way they look on others but I feel self conscious when I have one! I’m thinking a little cape like this, but I’ll probably make it myself.

Actually good call, why don’t I ask the bride?! I don’t know her colours, last time I saw her she hadn’t decided.

Sometimes I offend myself with how dim I can be!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 29/10/2018 14:03

Ah found the details. It’s a tulle skirt so nylon. Will investigate dyes.

I don't think you should ask the bride. It puts her in an awkward position if she thinks it's too bridal and she might feel too awkward to say that you can't wear it.
I think it would be ok if it was a different colour but if you are wearing the cream skirt with that light coloured jacket it could be too bridal.
I would just find another dress. There's lots out there and you have loads of time!

ExplodedPeach · 29/10/2018 15:39

I think it's fine but don't wear a pale jacket. Wear a dark one or a colourful one, and same for your handbag.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 29/10/2018 17:29

Ah good point.

I’m going to ask the bride what colours her bridesmaids are having rather than if she thinks it’s ok. I’m going to buy it anyway coz I like it, for ages to source a different one if I need to or a black jacket/bolero type thing.

IHeartMarmiteToast · 29/10/2018 17:31

I think it's lovely and I don't think its particularly bridal. I say go for it.

doodleygirl · 29/10/2018 17:34

Its nothing like a wedding dress, its fine for a wedding. I honestly didnt know there were so many rules about what a wedding guest could wear until I joined mumsnet.

Some people have so many rules its a miracle they manage to wear anything.

Mishappening · 29/10/2018 17:37

It's not "bridal" - entirely suitable I would say.

Butterymuffin · 29/10/2018 17:41

Can't see how something with a black velvet bodice is too bridal? It's only the skirt that's cream. Though I agree that a cream jacket would be too much. I have a black jacket with cream detail / edging which would work if you could get or sew yourself something like that.

3luckystars · 29/10/2018 17:47

My sister wore something like that to her debs in 1988. That is really old fashioned.

Angelcd · 29/10/2018 18:18

I like it ,should be fine to wear to the wedding.id go black jacket shoes & bag x

LittleWingSoul · 29/10/2018 18:20

I wore a very similar dress to this to a wedding, with black and gold heels and a black blazer. It didn't cross my mind it was bridal?!

Little mistress have lots of this style of fit and flare dresses in many colours and not too bad a price. Look on eBay!
