Is this dress ok for a wedding?

I hope so because I’ve fallen in love with it!

I’d wear it with my hair curly and pinned back, maybe half up half down, with a cream flower. Not sure about shoes but probably cream flats.

Wedding is early May so a while away, I think I’d need a cape with it.

What do you think?

Perfectly fine for a wedding as it is, no need to dye it. You'll look great!

GraceMarks · 30/10/2018 11:01

I think it's not the colour or the fabric that make it look a bit bridal (more bridesmaid than bride) by themselves, but the combination of the two. Cream tulle is definitely weddingy! If the skirt was a different colour or made from a plainer fabric it would be fine. Maybe you could dye it, but also just check with the bride what colour her bridesmaids will be in, and don't go for that!

@3luckystars it is a vintage shop!

Thanks all, I’m getting it 👍🏻

I did wonder, with the description of the accessories you planned, if you were the bride to begin with.

So that might answer your question?

(Really not sure about the cape, sorry!)

MaryJenson · 30/10/2018 16:17

I thought that too DontCallMeCharlotte

It appears it’s now ok to wear cream tulle to a wedding though.

BillywigSting · 30/10/2018 16:20

Perhaps with black shoes as in the photo but definitely not with cream shoes and cream pashmina, way to bridal looking imo

Ellapaella · 30/10/2018 17:00

The first one is fine for a wedding. Doesn't look remotely 'bridal' imo.

Bluntness100 · 30/10/2018 17:08

I think i think it's how you dress it.

Cream flats, cream flower in your hair, cream jacket and you're going to look like you are sad and want to be the bride.

Black shoes, black jacket, make it monochrome, no cream flowers in your hair, and yes, it's fine,

Myusername101z · 30/10/2018 17:11

I think it’s fine I think you should wear black shoes

SadieContrary · 30/10/2018 17:34

I don't mind it, don't think it's broad either but team it with heels. Please.

SadieContrary · 30/10/2018 17:35

Bridal not broad!
🙄 at predictive text

Asmallrole · 30/10/2018 18:00

I think it's gorgeous. I dont think it needs anything over it, and I would wear black and gold accessories

LoniceraJaponica · 30/10/2018 18:04

You might be a little over optimistic about fyeing it as dyes don't work well with non natural materials.

HillyMillylunchmunch · 30/10/2018 19:26

People are mad! Lovely dress, not remotely bridal, you'll look ace

stoplickingthetelly · 30/10/2018 19:35

It's lovely and perfectly fine for a wedding. Go for it.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 31/10/2018 15:32

@Bluntness100 well the groom is the one who got away...Grin (not really!)

Will nix the idea of the flower and do black instead of cream for a cover up. It’s the idea of a cape that I like tbh.

Re the dying - @LoniceraJaponica yes you are right, I’ve not had success with some fabrics before, the description says nylon tulle which is apparently ok to dye? It’s polyester that doesn’t take. If I do decide to dye it I’ll patch tray to be sure.

@SadieContrary the highest heel I’ll ever wear again will be a Cuban style. I’ve got mangled feet and a dodgy back from wearing heels going out too much and I’m not doing it again!

Just reading the side of a packet of Dylon Wash & Dye:

Cotton, linen and viscose will dye to the full shade
Polyester/cotton and polyester viscose will dye to lighter shades
Wool, silk, polyester, acrylic, and nylon cannot be dyed

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 31/10/2018 22:21

Goddamn it.

I think cream tulle ballerina skirt is bridal looking. Not full on bride, not bridesmaid but somehow bridal. I think you might get a few raised eyebrows when of ALL the colours out there, you chose a cream tulle ballerina skirt. Puffy tulle cream ballerina skirts are kind of the bride's arena.

Also the nylon will not dye, It is essentially plastic, dye colours will not/can not absorb. At best a dye would present as a colour stain (like washing something with a bright colour, or a white item washed in the darks wash by mistake) and probably patchily, and would likely ruin it as it wouldn't wash out again.

choppolata · 03/11/2018 07:37

If you look on thedyeshop.co.uk there is a product called iDye Poly, home dye for synthetics inc polyester & nylon.I have some but haven't used it yet. You have to boil though, so you'd probably need to take the dress apart to save ruining the velvet.
