Help me with my awful eyes - photo attached

I am trying to get away from wearing too much make up and have stopped wearing foundation apart from evenings out. However, I just can't find a concealer that covers my awfully hollow and dark under eyes.

All the YouTube clips I've watched include foundation as part of the routine to cover them so I'm a bit stuck.

Budget is sky's the limit as I hate my eyes so much and it really gets me down

Watching with interest, mine are exactly the same! I wear concealer but they're still visible.

HelveticaForever · 25/10/2018 20:02

It's so rubbish isn't it @crockofcrackers - I've worked really hard on improving my skin and I'm so pleased with the results. My horrible eyes let me down though and it makes me more sad than it should probably.

I'm afraid I've given up on mine but I used to get good results with Bare Minerals (the old powder mineral foundation stuff) tapped on with a small brush. The coverage was seamless. I have quite oily eyes so a bit of Urban Decay primer pencil under it helped keep it in place. Like you I've got away from using much on my face now.
On the bright side your eyebrows are fab!
If it bothers you why not get in touch with a MUA who can advise.

Fullfatlatte · 25/10/2018 20:42

You need a corrector not concealer. Try Bobbi Brown, I love it & find I don’t need as much concealer after. Get matched though at a counter. I use light/medium bisque.

Verbena87 · 25/10/2018 20:45

Mine are similar and I just have big round dark-framed glasses to hide behind!

I’ve got a MAC concealer that does the job when I can be arsed, and I also find that garnier roll-on one with caffeine better than I expected for the price.

Fstar · 25/10/2018 20:46

When i started using the right colour corrector it was a game changer. Look at a colour wheel to find the best colour corrector. Im have very dark under eyes and peach is best for me. Any heavier orange doesnt work. I then use some conceal and define concealer but not too light a shade

HelveticaForever · 25/10/2018 20:57

Thanks for the replies. I was wondering about make up artists - I've only ever been and had say a MAC make over or similar and they're obviously only going to push their products. Are there people who aren't affiliated to a brand but know what's out there who could advise? How do I find someone like that?

I will look into correctors in the mean time and the specific products people have mentioned. Thank you! Oh and thanks for eyebrow compliment

Sorry no advice on your eyes but your eyebrows are amazing! They look perfect!

pangolina · 25/10/2018 21:01

NYX do reasonably priced correctors if you want to experiment. Their green covers my rosacea flare ups perfectly and it's only about 6 quid!

beefandonionon · 25/10/2018 21:06

Your skin is gorgeous and your brows are amazing!

I'd recommend a concealer a shade darker than your skin tone with a warm peach tone in it.

Sounds strange as were normally told to brighten our under eyes and therefore choose a lighter shade than our skin tone but this doesn't work.

I prefer a liquid concealer under the eyes as I find it doesn't cake like a cream concealer or colour corrector.

My favourite to use is Mac Prolongwear in shade NC42 (sounds dark but it really isn't, I warm a little bit on the back of my hand and pat it on with my ring finger.

I'm a qualified MUA (but not MAC and don't work for a brand) btw

EvePolastriSorryBaby · 25/10/2018 21:14

No advice but your brows are gorg!!

itbemay · 25/10/2018 21:19

Beautiful eyes, have you looked into tear trough fillers?

Kemer2018 · 25/10/2018 21:20

Ooh you look like a famous Uk tv actress.

Jayfee · 25/10/2018 21:26

There was a makeup artist giving tips and anwering qs on an ama thread here recently

Racecardriver · 25/10/2018 21:26

Are you doing re you are using the right colour? You concealer should be a few shades lighter for under eye stuff and needs to be a sparkly/luminous one. Or you can do concealer with highlighter on top. Also consider how you apply. Concealer should be applied in strokes aware from the eye and the blended in outwards motions. Also try a dab of shiny eye shadow/highlighter in the forced of your eye, really brightens things up.

HelveticaForever · 25/10/2018 21:37

Oh wow - thanks for eyebrow love. It's making me feel a little better. I was really nervous to post this picture. I hate my whole eye area so much.

Thanks for the advice @beefandonionon - I prefer liquid too. Others seem to settle in my wrinkles fine lines too much. You are right I thought you should go lighter than your skin tone for concealer. That has blown my mind! I will definitely see how a darker shade looks. Can I ask you - how do I set liquid concealer without drying out my face. My skin looks healthy and dare I say dewy now I don't wear foundation but if I put powder on I look awful.

Thank you so much for all the products and tips - I am going to try them all!

Thank you for those links @9unctured6icycle I'm nowhere near London but will happily have a day trip

Tarte Shape Tape. It’s very high coverage and can settle into creases so a light touch and setting with powder helps. I use the tiniest bit, warmed up with my fingertips and then blended out with a mini beauty blender. Works an absolute treat.

MoltonSilver · 25/10/2018 21:52

Any chance it's sinus related?

BettyCrook · 25/10/2018 21:53

look into vitamins C, K and iron levels. You could also drink collagen powder. Dehydration and tiredness makes the sunken look worse. Would you be open to adding 1 or 2 litres of green juice to increase hydration for a week and see?
Are you allergic? Dust and hayfever makes my eyes look tired.
Your eyes are beautiful.

dontgobaconmyheart · 25/10/2018 21:55

gosh i think you have lovely skin, eyes and eyebrows OP! beautiful! I don't have any fantastic cosmetic advice but agree that colour correcting and trialling concealers is the way to go. Have you tried one of the heavier duty concealers in the pots like Benefit Boing? I apply with my ring finger and the warmth helps it blend nicely, then i just take it down a little further around and down so as not to end up with obvious concealer eyes!

ChampooPapi · 25/10/2018 21:56

@HelveticaForever honestly I know it might be controversial but under eye filler would work so well with your tear troughs, it lasts on some people for 2 years if they are a good retainer and it would require never using makeup under your eyes again.

Usually costs 350 pounds but you must use an experienced nurse/doctor , but you would be amazed how it would look.

It can also be dissolved easily like lip filler if not but trust me, it is the only thing that truly eliminates that dark tired look. In the end, filling a trough with makeup can only go so far unfortunately

Iamneverfull · 25/10/2018 22:03

The eye area has skin 40% thinner than the rest of your skin on your face. The dark bits are your veins, so the first aim is to plump out the eye area by being well hydrated. Think after a night out, our eyes look dark and its dehydration. A hydrating eye cream..i like body shop on a budget. The vitamin c or e ones were always lovely. Estee Lauder do these amazing eye masks called 'stress relief eye masks', they are cold, drenched little eye sheets and your eye absorbs all the moisture. They are the best! I feel like I have new eyes after, there are garnier versions now but I haven't tried them.
If your eyes are bluey..use a pinky/peach based concealer. If they are red and sore looking use a yellow tone. If its a deep set eye use a concealer and then a few tiny dots of Touche eclat by YSL (brightener) but use little of each. Otherwise if it really makes you unhappy look up 'tear trough filler' the results are very good as the area is more plumped and so hiding the veins!

bellinisurge · 25/10/2018 22:03

Your eyes are lovely. Please don't call them horrible.
