Reasonably-priced SPF50 face cream recommendations?

Hello All,

As it says in the title, I'm keen to know what people recommend. I currently use MAC face primer SPF50 but I'm looking to swap it for something cheaper as it's 20-odd quid.

I've been watching and waiting for the Ordinary's line to come out, but no luck yet.

The SPF factor is important; preferably 50 or more but no less than 40.

Thanks in advance!

I have combination skin and I love biore UV bright milk. Spf 50 and less than £10 on eBay (from Japan so takes a few weeks). Gives a beautiful primer like finish to the skin. My holy grail SPF which I always repurchase.

DeltaG · 22/10/2018 21:22

Oooh thanks for that, will take a look!

This stuff is AMAZING

www.thebodyshop.com/en-gb/face/moisturisers-with-spf/skin-defence-multi-protection-essence-spf50/p/p001071

and if you enter the code on the first page it’s 35% off for the next 10 hours. After that it’s £17 but still well worth it.

Lasts for ages and goes perfectly under foundation.

frugalkitty · 22/10/2018 22:50

Simple do one that's only a few quid, but it makes my eyes stream so be careful if you've got sensitive eyes.

Sunsense tinted spf
Perfect

After doing lots of searching I'm starting to think it varies greatly on your skin type.

I was impressed with frezyderm in the summer, that was factor 30 but they do a 50. A very lightweight clear dry matte gel that just disappears into your skin. Can't remember price though.

Currently trying avene cleanance factor 50 Which is quite good under make up.

jemimafuddleduck · 22/10/2018 23:15

I also second the Body Shop one. It's the only facial SPF I will ever use!

MoltonSilver · 23/10/2018 00:14

I like the body shop one too.

DeltaG · 23/10/2018 08:47

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! The body shop one isn't much cheaper, but the pot is larger, so overall it is better value.

I think I'll try the bioré one first. @JDSTER Do you have any issues with border fees, since it comes from Japan?

The Body Shop one is often £11 on off so quite cheap really. The code from last night will have expired now so it’s back up in price. It’s definitely worth buying when its on offer to try - Body Shop have sales on very regularly.

Pythone · 23/10/2018 13:21

I use Biore Watery Essence which is amazing! It also comes from Japan (I bought it on Amazon so no border fees etc.). It has alcohol in it so I don't think it would be good for dry skin, but as someone with combination skin, it's a million times better than the "oil slick" greasy sunscreen creams!

JDSTER · 23/10/2018 18:07

@DeltaG no problem with border fees. I buy from any Japanese seller with decent ratings and never had an issue.

I’ve also used Biore watery essence mentioned by pythone which is incredibly light as well but I much prefer the finish that the bright milk gives. I don’t use primer any more.

I’ve tried frezyderm that’s been mentioned. It also feels like a primer but it made me very oily by mid day. Like all skincare, it’s finding things that are suitable for your skin type.

silver1977 · 23/10/2018 18:11

The 30% code is still valid, I have just tried it.

I am after the same thing as the OP, however...after reading some reviews on the Body Shop website it is not being recommended much for sun protection! As someone who suffers with pigmentation this is essential for me so I won't risk purchasing it.

LostInShoebiz · 23/10/2018 18:15

Does the Biore bright milk have whitening properties?

DeltaG · 23/10/2018 18:27

Thanks again for the replies. I have ordered the Bioré one from Ebay. No idea how long it will take to come, but I'll report back when it does!

So, the Bioré one has arrived!

Am pretty pleased; a little seems to go a long way and the texture is light and not greasy. No idea what the packet says though!

Thanks very much for the suggestion.

Is the Biore one all mineral? I haven't found an spf which isn't all mineral that doesn't sting my eyes.

I've been using the one from sunprise, a Korean one with the 'airy finish' which is good and doesn't sting, but if I could find a creamy one I'd be v pleased

Oly5 · 15/11/2018 21:01

The Bidy Shop one is amazing, never had a problem using it as proper sunscreen!

JDSTER · 15/11/2018 21:45

Glad you’re liking it so far delta Smile

DeltaG · 15/11/2018 23:11

Many thanks JDSTER

The Body Shop essence is the bees’ knees.

I'm loving the new Heliocare mineral tolerance.

Not v cheap though and a small bottle. Bloody amazing primer, tad pale but sinks in beautifully, just takes a little time. Will be ok for winter. Doesn't migrate into my eyes and I wear contacts; it's excellent for around eyes, spf 50.

flintfoxy · 16/11/2018 16:49

Is the body shop one a moisturiser or a sunscreen - i usually wear serum them moisturiser...

loveandstuffing · 16/11/2018 18:28

A sunscreen. But not like a typical greasy cream. It’s an essence that dries down to nothing. It’s brilliant.
