Would it be cruel to make DD wear

Long sleeved black t-Shirt under white/black Detail short-sleeved t-Shirt?

Seems a pity to put the short sleeved away for the winter. She's nearly 7, not overly fussed by what she wears. But she has no school uniform so it would be something she would wear to school.

As opposed to buying her vests and long sleeved t-shirts.

I tend to just get cardigans. Long sleeved t shirts irritate me so I very rarely buy them, the DC just wear cardis or jumpers if it's cold.

Pebblespony · 20/10/2018 10:13

I see no problem with this.

Aviana · 20/10/2018 10:22

No one here does! Jumpers and coats are kept for outdoors.

My children wear long sleeved tops over short sleeved tops as a way to layer to keep warm. I thought. That was normal. I do the same

Bluntness100 · 20/10/2018 10:24

You want her to wear the black long sleeved t shirt as a vest and the short sleeved white one over the top? It will look fairly shit. Why not the other way around?

Twork · 20/10/2018 10:29

My 7 year old loves doing this.
It's pretty a normal look and unless the short sleeves are tight so that the long sleeves are puffy, it doesn't look "shit" at all.

BurningGubbins · 20/10/2018 10:30

It depends on her overall aesthetic really. T-shirt over long sleeved top is a skatery vibe. I like it and wear that sort of thing, as do my children. We don’t look “fairly shit” because the rest of our outfit, shoes etc match that look when we choose to wear it (not at the same time).

Twork · 20/10/2018 10:30

In fact you can buy plenty of tops that are designed to look like you've done this.

LaBelleSausage · 20/10/2018 10:31

It was cool in the 70s, and the grunge look of the 90s so I’m sure that look must be coming round again Grin
Honestly, if she’s happy then I’d do it.

Should have said we're colder than the majority of the UK so have to reckon on two extra layers (jumper and winter coat) for break time.

Wouldn't it be annoying to have the sleeves of the short sleeved t-shirt squished under a long sleeved one? I would look for a "tighter" fitting black top rather than baggy sleeved one.

She wears the thicker H&M leggings or jeans, trainer type shoes/snow boots.

It's a fairly ordinary look. Sheldon wears this all the time.

averythinline · 20/10/2018 11:42

We do this you get more interesting t-shirts than long sleeves I think...I also hate the bunching underneath ...

SoupDragon · 20/10/2018 11:44

Eh? As has been said, there are tops that look like a long sleeved top under a t shirt already. There's nothing shit about it at all. My kids used to do this all the time.

ChimesOnSundayMorn · 20/10/2018 12:08

If she's happy, then yes fine

yikesanotherbooboo · 20/10/2018 12:30

She is only six, get as much wear as you can out of her clothes. Yes to avoiding thebunching. Why would this not be alright? Please don't let your little children worry about fashion.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 20/10/2018 18:09

We are also uniform free and my dc wear short sleeves over long for a lot of the winter. It's a great way to get more wear out of their summer clothes.

Bluntness100 · 20/10/2018 21:32

There's nothing shit about it at all

Eh indeed. Is my Opinion not valid then. Just yours? The fact I think it looks shit is irrelevant?

Op, ask for the thread to be ended. Soup dragon has spoken and it doesn't look shit and only their opinion counts it seems. They are clearly the fasion police.

SoupDragon · 20/10/2018 22:38

Is my Opinion not valid then. Just yours?

And you can't see the irony of that statement...? 🙄 Do you usually react like that when someone dares to hold a different opinion to you? You said it will look shit, I said it isn't shit. Many others also said it would look fine before that. Maybe lay into them too.

SoupDragon · 20/10/2018 22:40

The two posts immediately after yours disagreed directly with you. Maybe have a go at them too.

HildaZelda · 21/10/2018 10:59

Sounds absolutely fine to me OP.

Oldraver · 21/10/2018 11:06

I used to do this a lot with DS when he was a toddler using long sleeve vests...made his short sleeve t-shirts for winter as well.

I think it gives a nice look but no nothing of fashion

NerrSnerr · 21/10/2018 11:08

I also think it's fine. My children always dress like this.

blueskiesandforests · 21/10/2018 11:10

It's a fairly ordinary thing to wear but I'm confused by why you'd be making her wear it.

My kids have no school uniform and wear what they want, I don't tell them which t shirt to put underneath and which on top, it's up to them - including the youngest who is also 7. It's gone smoothly so far, eldest is nearly 14... I suspect that you're over thinking - let her dress herself!

Rockbird · 21/10/2018 11:53

It's fine, DD1 (10) has been doing this since she was a toddler. DD2 tends to wear dresses and leggings more but I'd do it for her if she had short sleeved things.

MrsPMT · 21/10/2018 13:35

Its quite common thing to wear, IMO. I do this as it gets colder, I have lots of nice t-shirt style tops that I want to keep wearing so for warmth wear a fitted black long sleeve top under, very cosy, can even get "base-layer" tops for extra cosiness. Then I get to still wear my 'nice' tops.
