evenign wear

SweetyDarling · 14/06/2007 14:11

An evening gown or cocktail dress.

TheBlonde · 14/06/2007 14:15

I thought that might be the case

Right then, where can I find evening wear suitable for discreet public breastfeeding?

OP posts:
CuddlesomeCod · 14/06/2007 18:09

you dont
you get a dress and feed in the loos
on this event
breast feeding outfit owuld look shit

TheBlonde · 14/06/2007 19:47

Okay so how different does it need to be from something you would wear to a normal wedding?

Can't you find a halter-neck top that ties at the back to allow you to loosen enough to bf? Just a thought, you know, an empire line one ... haven't looked for any tho ...

TheBlonde · 14/06/2007 19:50

Nice idea but have huge norks and could see that going disastrously wrong!

tigerschick · 14/06/2007 19:52

Ah ... yes ... ok.

liath · 14/06/2007 19:52

Nice shawl or pashmina to BF under?

Have similar dilemma next month though not black tie thank God!

TheBlonde · 14/06/2007 20:04

Hi Liath

I think I may have to go for separates and hoick the top up

Need to see if I can squeeze into anything in my wardrobe

Spaghetti strap dress and strapless bra - then you can just slip a strap off and fold down the bra cup. M&S do a really soft seamless bra with detachable straps and this works for me.

we had black tie at our wedding. the women wore normal wedding attire. we only stipulated this dress code to make it easy for the men in the family (we didnt fancy frock coats!)

what time of day is it?

dueat44- I don't think strapless is an option as I'm currently wearing a 34K and need the support

noonar - the wedding is at 3pm, the reception follows at 5

!!!!! That is serious norkage. Best of luck with whatever you choose.

TheBlonde · 20/06/2007 15:33

TheBlonde - there was a thread a couple of months back asking for a wedding outfit for a breastfeedin mother, and there were loads of suggestions......let me see if I can find it....

WaynettaSlob · 20/06/2007 15:42

here it is

and here's another

TheBlonde · 20/06/2007 15:45

Bumping - we are off to the wedding Friday and I still haven't bought anything yet
Would ideally like to narrow it down so I don't have to panic shop with 2 kids in two

I was thinking trousers or skirt, some top and a cardie of some sort

I already have a fancy cardie from kew and some slingbacks in a pink/wine colour

Can anyone help me find the rest of the outfit?

Slubberdegullion · 23/07/2007 09:28

Not trousers. If it is black tie your really do need to wear a skirt or dress. That's not really helpful but if the invite is stipulating evening you will need to go up another gear from straight forward wedding formal.

Have you tried the monsoon sale. They're always pretty reliable for lovely evening wear?

TheBlonde · 23/07/2007 09:46

The bride has clarified it slightly and said that DH does not need a tux - a dark suit will be fine.
I think I will be able to get away with trousers

I had a look on the monsoon sale site but nothing grabbed me

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 23/07/2007 09:46

what colour is cardie? Is it evening-y enough?

I'd go for a skirt over trousers unless they are very eveningy indeed, other people will be in cocktail dresses. If you can slope off and feed in private then a dress would solve all your problems at a stroke - Laura Ashley have some v pretty things suitable for hiding heavy-duty bras here and have a sale on atm. I especially like this one - gorgeous colour, get a pinky bag to match your shoes.
Their skirts aren't quite as good though.

Monsoon sale is also heaving with gorgeous things, def worth a visit. Couple of pinky skirts on their website here and here but no good dresses there although there may be in the shop.

harpsichordcuddler · 23/07/2007 09:51

OK what about a lovely wrap dress from Bravissimmo (or elsewhere, but Bravissimmo ones are marvellous for the large of nork) with a camisole underneath.
then you can pull down the dress and lift the cami and hey presto!
I have done this about three million times so I can vouch for its effectiveness

TheBlonde · 23/07/2007 10:25

Mrs B - Cardie is a dusky pink wine colour. It is eveningy and has a satin trim with some low key diamante bits

Dresses are a problem fit wise as I am currently a top heavy triangle shape - huge boobs, no waist (still look 3 mths pg)

Harpsi - I always feel concerned that wrap dresses are going to fall off iykwim but will look at them too
