I don’t have much money to spend so a lot of the recommendations here are useless to me.

I use Nivea cleansing stuff.

Coconut oil.

Reusable cloth wipes for washing my face.

Brands for make up are make up revolution some Rimmel and Maybelline and W7. I do use studio fix foundation by Mac and I get my eyebrows done regularly.

I need a winter jumper and some winter boots. They need to be lower end of high street or supermarket. I just don’t have the cash to spend £££

I’m late 40s 5ft2 and size 14. I’m losing weight so I don’t want to spend a lot and I don’t have it anyway.

Is anyone else like me? Sometimes I read here and it’s not even aspirational for me. There’s no way I’d spend £100 on a handbag for eg.

some of the supermarkets can be good for boots, sainsburys and asda especially usually have some decent leather ankle boots for around the £25-£30 mark which is good for leather. Primark if you have one nearby is often good for jumpers and similar, especially if you aren't wanting to spend a lot as you are losing weight

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 13/10/2018 07:02

A lot of supermarket clothes, especially the shoes, will be a false economy. I’d go to your nearest ‘posh’ town and scour the charity shops. I go to a lovely town about an hour away that’s ridiculously upmarket, and the charity shops are rammed with excellent quality stuff for not much money. Totally worth the drive (the amazing bakeries also help..)

LoniceraJaponica · 13/10/2018 07:06

My Sainsburys leather ankle boots are going into their 3rd year and are as good as new.

TK Maxx, charity shops, Sainsburys snd Primark are a good call.

madvixen · 13/10/2018 07:08

I've got some great winter jumpers and a lovely pair of winter boots from everything5pounds.com

hendricksy · 13/10/2018 07:26

Try charity shops , boots natural collection for make up .

LoadsaBlusher · 13/10/2018 07:27

Charity shops definitely.
You can get amazing quality items for a couple of pounds .
I’m also on a budget but love all the style threads on here as they give me great ideas
Also I have a subscription to Hello Fashion (£1 an issue think my subscription was £12 and I got two free Nip + Fab make up pallets)
I get this each month to look at the trends then see what I can pick up in the charity shops , so for example I got a teddy coat for £1.99 , tartan skirt £1.49 .

For make up I really rate the MUA range at Superdrug
I have also recently discovered that Poundstretcher is amazing for health & beauty items
Branded items for well under a pound , better range than Poundland .

Blackoutblinds · 13/10/2018 07:29

I have mua stuff and primark make up too.

I suppose I’m just feeling a bit lost. I don’t even know what suits me anymore I don’t know how to dress me without either being baggy and shapeless or mutton dressed as lamb.

I don't spend my hard earned money on things I consider overpriced either, OP! For clothes I scour the charity shops which I find quite fun and always find nice, high quality stuff. I supplement this with a few quality basics usually from M&S as I find the stuff in their value ranges to last well - the quality is good for the price. For makeup I like primark - my perfect colour is good foundation and their Jo Malone perfume dupes are great. For skincare I order by post from The Ordinary which does wonders for my skin (the company is going through some upheaval at the minute but it's getting resolved).

Didiusfalco · 13/10/2018 07:39

I’ve got a 20% off M&S code that you could use online until the 15th. Pm me if you would like it.

LoadsaBlusher · 13/10/2018 07:40

Have you tried Pinterest?
This is going to make me sound like a complete saddo but I typed in school Mum style and it comes up with lots of lovely stylish ideas . Not necessarily just for the school run but nice co ordinated simple stylish outfit ideas .
I saved them to my ‘ style ‘ board and try and pick up similar basics to make up those kind of outfits .

Blackoutblinds · 13/10/2018 07:41

Didius that is really kind of you but even Marks and Sparks is high end in my world. I’m literally at £15 top limit for a jumper and maybe £20 for trousers.

Charity shops are a good idea I will definitely check them out. I did used to but I got really fat and they never had anything so I stopped going.

M&S jumper £12.50 comes in 12 colours www.marksandspencer.com/round-neck-long-sleeve-jumper/p/p60181326?image=SD_01_T38_1502_KF_X_EC_90&color=EMERALD&prevPage=plp&pdpredirect

I think it's kind of a myth that M&S is expensive, they have a huge range of prices!

BikeRunSki · 13/10/2018 07:54

Asda had some lovely leather Chelsea boots for £25. Asda boots

Blackoutblinds · 13/10/2018 07:55

Oh I like that jumper. Is it nit too young for me though?

OP posts:
Whatsnewwithyou · 13/10/2018 07:57

No way are you too old for that jumper! I'm 46 and I'd wear it. It's a classic style.

hettie · 13/10/2018 08:27

If you know what size you are in certain brands then eBay can be great. You need to be slightly patient/persistent though...

AnnabelleLecter · 13/10/2018 08:30

Mua lipsticks for£1 are surprisingly good.
Also Mua eye palettes
Collection mascara
Barry m nail polish
I never buy expensive make-up.
Clothes are different though I never buy cheap. Luckily I'm spoilt with the charity shops in our area, they are brilliant. They have lots of top end high street and designer stuff. Plus loads with tags still on.
Shoes and boots I buy decent stuff as I'm on my feet a lot and cheap ones just don't last me.

Sarcelle · 13/10/2018 08:30

How can a plain jumper be too young for anybody???

Blackoutblinds · 13/10/2018 08:32

Because it’s shorter and more figure hugging than I’d normally wear. I usually wear baggy jumpers and tops that cover my bum

OP posts:
LoniceraJaponica · 13/10/2018 08:47

Ooh. I love that M and S jumper. I'm off to Meadowhall later. Must nip in to M and S.

Those boots look exactly like my Sainsburys Chelsea boots BikeRunSki. Mine are black though. I have worn them loads and they don't look well worn at all. A truly bargainous pair of boots.

DinosApple · 13/10/2018 10:07

I love that jumper too, I need a few and the colours are great!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 13/10/2018 10:35

primark have some lovely jumpers at around £5 I got a nice green one and a mustard one and a pale blue and fluffy blue one too also got green boots to match for £12 and mustard ones they are the comfiest boots I have ever had, obviously not leather but nice heel size and so stylish, and I am older than you! saw some nice long jumper dresses in there too but i'd spent enough which would look good with knee length boots.

Lulusmother · 13/10/2018 11:02

Tesco !!! Their F & F range is brilliant ! They have tweed/ tartan tapered trousers in which are on trend , about £18. I think. Make up, I'm loving Wilkos own range, got good write ups too 😊

librarylover53 · 13/10/2018 11:07

The likes of primark is a total false economy - cheap, poorly made throwaway fashion. Don't waste your money.

Some supermarket stuff is decent, and tk maxx is fab. Also - eBay!!! I have saved searches for my size in lots of higher end brands that I couldn't afford to buy new and over the years have got some fab bargains in stuff that hasn't been worn, or barely has.
