and I was wondering if I could get some recommendations for inexpensive products (as I will need to buy 24!!) that are not a complete waste of money. She would probably like peel masks but I'm weary of what goes on her skin as she's only young, lip balms, subtle lipstick, subtle blusher and make up brushes, nail varnish, I don't know what else really. I am not hugely into make up myself so not sure where to look. She still a kid so loves cute things too. I would appreciate any recommendations/brands/websites.... thanks!

Face masks at 11? Has she got spots?

I'd go for hair decorations, tangle tamer brush, nice smelly soaps etc. 11 is too young for makeup!

RapunzelsRealMom · 08/10/2018 19:52

Boots (and others) do make up or nail varnish multi packs which are quite good value per item. Ask at beauty counters for some mini freebies. Also Boots do mini shampoo, shower gel, deodorant etc for holidays that kids tend to like.

princessbear80 · 08/10/2018 19:55

Boots and Tesco do 3 for 2 on travel size toiletries, although they may only be available in the summer. They might be good - I got Aussie shampoo and conditioner and a small deodorant.

Mummy2one2016 · 08/10/2018 20:25

If you have a wilko close to you they have a range called essence. It's really reasonable and good quality to. Including make up and nails varnish.

hammeringinmyhead · 08/10/2018 20:54

I'd recommend Boots Natural Collection. They have a good tinted lip balm:

And their nail polish is decent for £1.99.

I really rate these Makeup Revolution palettes (from either Superdrug or their own website) as dupes for Urban Decay Naked palettes. For £4 you could give her one as the "big" day 24 gift?

Lip balm wise you can't beat the Body Shop. They do gift sets now that you could split down into individuals e.g. hand cream, balm, mini body butter.

nancy75 · 08/10/2018 20:57

Have a look at Body shop but always look for a discount code first ( you can usually get at least 30% off)
Sainsbury’s have a set of about 5 fruity shower gels for a fiver
Superdrug is good for cheap makeup
Primark also good for pretty make up brushes

NeepNeepNeep · 08/10/2018 21:02

Bath bombs? These are very reasonably priced compared to Lush!

Chimchar · 08/10/2018 21:04

Primark have loads of cute make up...they have Disney face masks, Disney false nails etc.
They have cute hand sanitiser in little bottles, Lip balms, eye masks, shower caps. How about Hair bobbles?

Moonflower12 · 08/10/2018 21:05

Superdrug have cute bath bombs- pandas etc for a £1 each.

Immigrantsong · 08/10/2018 21:07

Wilko does an advent calendar for £6 and you can check out contents in YouTube. I think that would probably be the cheapest and best for her age.

ImogenTubbs · 08/10/2018 21:18

Sass & Belle do nail files shaped like unicorns and cats.

Gobblebox · 08/10/2018 21:19

Great idea. How would you / do you make it?

AnotheBloodyChinHair · 08/10/2018 21:21

You've given me some wonderful ideas, thank you; Body Shop has these cute bunny shaped soaps and I've also found this:www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002DPUY2E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-style-and-beauty-3388741-I-am-going-to-try-and-make-a-beauty-advent-calendar-for-my-11-YO-DD" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002DPUY2E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1
DD loves EOS lipbalm but of my god the price!!!

If you have a big home bargains near you they do excellent bath products and trinkety bits that would suit. You could easily buy 24 things for 25 quid.

AnotheBloodyChinHair · 08/10/2018 21:23

gobble I'll be doing treat bags, a bit like this

I am going to try and make a beauty advent calendar for my 11 YO DD

Are you? What a strange thing to do. Why are you pushing your daughter down this "you supposed to prettify yourself because you are a girl" route? and at such a young age!

WTBE · 08/10/2018 21:33

My sister loved this last year (she is 12) Poundland do little pots of glitter hair gel that the girls put in their partins when having french braids and such.
They also do multipack bath sponges/body scrubs also Primark is worth going to;

How about a photo keyring for the Christmas Eve one can get one on eBay for £2.

EatSleepRantRepeat · 08/10/2018 21:35

What a lovely idea! I loved people giving me something I saw as 'grown up' at that age. I don't see the problem with make-up providing it's in the context of 'dressing up' or feeling nice, it's not as if she's going to be wearing a daily faceful of slap. If my mum had taken an interest in beauty with me, I'd have saved a lot of pocket money instead of buying completely unsuitable stuff, and jamming myself in the eye with eyeliner pens.. Hmm

Collection at boots is supposed to be nice, and superdrug has some awesome cheap ranges aimed at teens too eg holographic highlighter sticks, cheap palettes etc. Maybe some of those stick on crystals that seemed to be the rage this summer?

WTBE · 08/10/2018 21:36

Sorry I just realised you were mainly looking for beauty products!

Your best bet is multipack buys, also savers do little perfume/ body spray sets quite cheap.

HenryInTheTunnel · 08/10/2018 21:37

It's not strange. She's (probably) at secondary school. Lots of girls her age start being interested in make up and presumably OP knows her daughter well enough to think this is something she will enjoy.

OP also says that this is not something she is particularly interested in herself.

AnotheBloodyChinHair · 08/10/2018 21:37

A580Hojas I just really love to theme her gifts and I thought this would go nicely with the eyebrow threading voucher I gave her when she turned 11 and the full brazilian party I have planned for her when she turns 12.

OP posts:
EatSleepRantRepeat · 08/10/2018 21:45

Sounds like OP throws a cracking party! Grin Wonder if they do full brazilian parties for 40ths... Wink

TulipsInBloom1 · 08/10/2018 21:48

Oh fuck off A580Hojas

Presumably the OP is doing it because her dd likes it. If her dd was into Dungeons and Dragons or fossils or bloody bugs in sap, no doubt she would theme it that way.

But because its beauty. And a girl. Well, onvs OP is trying to shoehorn her daughter into a sterotyope box against hee wishes.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/10/2018 21:52

Eyebrow threading and tinting surely Wink

My DD is older (16) but last year I did a Beauty Advent (clear plastic bags from Lakeland, ribbon, adhesive 1-24 stickers from eBay)

She loved it and wants another this year.
As my DD is older and does like her make-up, I'm starting buying things now :

some freebies on magazines
BodyShop minis
Molton Brown

Lots of 3for2 in Superdrug and Boots.
You could get her lip-balm, clear mascara for eyebrows

Most important - cleanser and maybe a muslin cloth .
Aldi do really good offers , and Superdrug often on BOGOF .

Emery boards.
M&S do multipacks of their Autograph nail polish -even better on 3for2 if you're buying for others too.

Good luck with your searching Grin

LascellesMoustache · 08/10/2018 21:53

I love some of the responses you've got on this thread Op, especially the How Strange one Grin

I'd have loved this sort of thing at her age Op, what a nice thing to do for your daughter.
