Help!! Slipping High Heels: Tit tape? Anything else?

BigHoofs · 03/10/2018 12:16

I have a pair of heels that are perfect except they slip slightly at the back.

I have put heel grips in and a half insole but they are still slipping.

I'd read somewhere that celebs sometimes use tit tape/toupee tape to stop shoes slipping off at the back esp if they have to do stairs at an award ceremony.

Does this work? Anyone tried it?

Does it work with tights or do you just end up with a gloopy mess or tights that have ripped?

*Any other suggestions?)

Any thoughts?

I have this problem a lot as I must have quite slim heels, and tend to fall between a size 5 and a 6. I've tried the insoles and heel grips too, but really, the only thing that works for me is buying shoes that fit to start with. Court shoes are the worst - I've taken a chance many times with them and always end up with horrible great blisters on my heels.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 03/10/2018 14:46

Double sided tape is your answer. I too have narrow ankles and court shoes always used to come off until I tried this. Stick a strip down the centre of the shoe heel to toe way (I use around 5/6cm length). I then peel the top later off only swhen I'm about to put them on, and gently as I can slip my foot into the shoe. The sole of your foot will then stick to the tape and therefore the shoe! It takes a bit of practice but has transformed my ability to wear court shoes.
The only downside is that the inside of the shoes look pretty hideous when you take them off with all thet glue/tape, but then as long as no-one else sees them its not a problem. Sticky stuff remover type stuff will get it off.
This method doesnt work with tights, or at least didn't for me. I also tried it on slingbacks (to keep the slingback on the back of my heels) but this didnt work either...
Hope that helps!

@Ifonlyiweretaller - ooooh!!! Interesting. Thank you for that suggestion.

I was imagining the tape would go in the heel. I really want something that would work with tights though - I don't care if afterwards the tights have to be binned.

Yup - I hear you. I know!!!

My problem is the same as yours - I'm basically a half size and not quite a half size either - so pretty much any shoe is too big or too small. Too small is no go as painful. Too big = slippy.

The shoes I was asking about are sooo comfortable as they are a wide fit with padding but the heel is slippy. I want to get them to stay on as otherwise they are perfect.

I also found this link which suggests hairspray

www.yournextshoes.com/keep-shoes-feet-walk/

and this one which suggests something called shoesizers that go in the toe of the shoe and also panty liners oddly - but I can't quite work out where you put the panty liner!

@bighoofs The problem I found when wearing tights was that the tights stuck to the shoes but my feet still lifted out away from the tights if that makes sense.

namechange4000 · 03/10/2018 16:39

Take the heel grips off, cut them in half and stick them back down along each side of the heel. The extra 1.5mm on each side is then enough to grip your slim ankle.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 03/10/2018 17:31

Ooh I'm going to have to give that a go @namechange4000 . Could be a perfect solution! Does it work for you? Or is it something you've heard about.

BigHoofs · 03/10/2018 18:15

@Ifonlyiweretaller

yes that makes sense maybe work if the tights were tight!

BigHoofs · 03/10/2018 18:26

I found these searching around which are obviously the answer - except for the fact they look hideous!!! They might work with trousers or a long evening dress I suppose but not for what I'm after.

I use the double sided sticky foam pads found in the shops next to blu tac etc.

Worked on slingbacks with tights for 10hrs of wedding and dancing last weekend!

supposedly these have Royal approval!

@Ifonlyiweretaller I'm in the trade so to speak. Another option is to use chiropody felt to do the same thing, but that's not as widely available as heel grips. Essentially, you are just making the sides of the Shoe nearest the heel more narrow for a narrow-heeled foot. It's quite a common footwear issue.

BigHoofs · 04/10/2018 10:49

What is chiropody felt??? (off to Google). Where do you use it? At the sides of the heel?

Not sure which bit of "the trade"you are in but if it's foot related rather than shoe related, have you seen these:

Shoesizers

shoesizers.com/

Apparently you can heat them so they mould to your feet. I'm a bit unsure about them as it looks like they might hurt/scrunch your toes as they work by filling in the gap at the front of the shoe if you shoe is slightly too big.

I have bought some to test out so I will report back anyway.

I have used suede heel grips with good success but I guess with tights the issue is that the tights grip but your foot then slips inside the tights. You could try hairspraying the back of your foot before you put tights on to try and stop the tights sticking?

BigHoofs · 04/10/2018 11:04

I've already got suede heel grips in dinkydonky. I tried the hairspray yesterday but it didn't work.

@BigHoofs I'm shoe, not foot. Although I've trained with foot people for my shoe tease role. If you use those mouldable inserts, you are reducing the space at the front of the shoe for where your toes are. You should never do that. Always buy shoes that fit for your larger foot, then use very tiny increments of build up for your smaller foot. Insoles come in various thickness for this reason .

If you have wide feet at the toes but a standard or skinny heel, that's where you'd use a heel grip cut in two or chiropody felt. You need special scissors for the felt so it's much easy for you to snip a heel grip in two instead.

cblack · 04/10/2018 11:13

Ahh sorry!
Trying to think how else you could make more friction - would a fabric plaster on the back of the heel help maybe?

BigHoofs · 04/10/2018 11:24

Thanks @namechange4000

Yeah I didn't think it sounded a good idea.

If you have wide feet at the toes but a standard or skinny heel, that's where you'd use a heel grip cut in two or chiropody felt.

The issue with these shoes is that they fit at the front (width) but they are a bit too big so I have that gap at the back. They are a shade too long I suppose you'd say.

I've got suede heel grips in but applied in the convenitional way not snipped in too.

I'm really interested inthe chiropody felt.

What kind of special scissors? Can you post a link to the scissor type?

That sounds like an idea that might help - thanks cblack

Here are the ones I use:

And felt here:
_
Fleecy Web Adhesive Roll 5cm x 3m https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007JUQMBK/ref=cmm_swrrcpapiirkFTBb9FYYK5S

Watch this YouTube at 1.40ish he shows adapting the Shoe by snipping heel grips. If you prefer chiropody tape, you would just cut two pieces of tape and place them in the same place as where he puts the heel grips

@namechange4000

OMG! Thank you so much for that video link. That is fabulous.

I loved the bit at 0.58 about trainer lacing. I never knew that!!!

I am revelated!!!! not sure that is an actual word but it should be!!!
