How can I smell nice?

In recent years I've gone off perfume. I find it smells very chemically and doesn't last very well.

I find scented body lotions don't really last on me. Perhaps I just haven't found the right one.

I don't mind body sprays but I find they can smell a bit like my high school changing rooms when everyone was blasting Impulse at their sweaty crevices.

But, I want to smell nice. I want to be one of these women who has a haze of a lovely scent around her.

So, if I don't use perfume or body spray and I haven't found a lasting body lotion, what can I use to smell nice? A friend suggested essential oils but I haven't tried that yet.

Any suggestions from you lovely ladies.

Well I don't know what your budget is but the Caudalie Divine Oil is absolutely divine. I don't think its that expensive actually. You can get it in independant pharmacies. It's like warm Amber golden gorgeousness with a hint of lily of the valley to keep it light. Like a fragrant blanket. Lush.

Bottle lasts for years!

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 24/09/2018 12:36

Eau Dynamisante Body Lotion is divine, though I’m not so keen on the spray.

What about hair products/sprays? You can get much lighter versions of perfumes as a hair fragrance spray, which swooshes with the hair and just gives a hint of scent?

FishChops · 24/09/2018 12:43

@AuntJackiesBrothersSistersBoy

I have very short hair so no swooshing for me, I'm afraid. I used to always select lovely smelling shampoos for this very reason but there's no point now, I've only got a few inches of hair nowadays Grin

what about those arabic oils in the little rollers - somebody recommended then once before and they are quite nice and very cheap.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 24/09/2018 12:48

Have you tried Nuxe dry oil. Fab smell

ElspethFlashman · 24/09/2018 12:54

Are those the ones on Amazon Rain? I remember looking them up once and realising there was a whole level of fragrance obsession I had no idea about. Like, thousands of reviews on there!

I use lemongrass and bergamot linen spray (£12) www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/aromaworks-lemongrass-bergamot-room-linen-mist-60012035 when I don't use perfume. Great for my migraines, lasts all day on my clothes instead of going on my skin as well.

zenasfuck · 24/09/2018 13:14

I personally think smelling of clean is nice

I make sure my clothes are washed thoroughly using wash liquid and softener then I wash myself with a good soap and nice shampoo

I rarely wear perfume but weirdly people always comment on how nice I smell Smile

FishChops · 24/09/2018 13:19

So many amazing suggestions on here, thank you all Grin

I haven't come across those roller things @RaininSummer I'll have to have a google

@zenasfuck My clothes are clean.I used biological powder cut with soda crystals and a drop of fabric conditioner. I line dry whenever possible. I wash myself every day after swimming with soap (thanks to MN). I don't smell bad, I just don't smell of anything lovely and I want to Grin

Library of Fragrance do a Fresh Linen perfume. Smells a bit like original Lenor. Might be The One, OP!

AwaywiththePharaohs · 24/09/2018 13:57

Another Nuxe fan. I use the dry oil in my upper body and sometimes a bit in my hair.
I think I smell French!

FishChops · 24/09/2018 14:02

Steady on @AwaywiththePharaohs I said I wanted to smell nice, not French. One step at a time!

The rollers are perfume Parlour. Fab site with v expensive perfumes on there as cheap oil rollers.

LanaorAna2 · 24/09/2018 16:35

Whatever you use, spray it in your hair - lasts longer and you need less.

user187656748 · 24/09/2018 20:03

if you have blonde hair use the Nuxe gold and spray into your hair. lovely smell and a tiny sparkle which just makes your hair catch the light.

ferretface · 24/09/2018 20:28

Laura Mercier body souffle. The smell lingers for days and it's delicious. Expensive but worth every penny as a pot lasts well

beanaseireann · 24/09/2018 20:49

Aveeno cream to oil cream

I can't bear wafts of smells on people, especially on the train. It makes me cough and my throat tickle for ages. Clean clothes, hair and body only to avoid irritating people with sensitive noses.

FluffyPinkCloud · 24/09/2018 21:42

A nice perfume made with botanicals rather than synthetic chemicals. If you splurge a bit on some expensive fragrance and use it sparingly then they aren’t as chemically or migraine inducing. As a PP said spray it in your hair. Freshly laundered clothes. hand cream, I use a bit of talc too. Lots of gentle scents that don’t over power your nose.

ravensmum · 24/09/2018 22:04

I like colognes as they just smell nice and clean and fresh - currently spraying Alvarez Gomez agua di colonial on self which is nice, comes in a lotion too from amazon. I think they fade quickly but less likely to irritate people on trains etc!

Fstar · 25/09/2018 00:07

Ive found using the showegel and lotion for the following lasts ages - noble isle willow song and also mimosa in m and s. Both very fresh smelling

Gogreen · 25/09/2018 09:42

A women walked out her house this morning with her young child....behind me! And she smelt like heaven!! She actually smelt of laundry, you know that lovely laundry smell just after you have taken the clothes out the warm tumble dryer, should have asked her about it but didn’t have the guts

FishChops · 26/09/2018 10:07

These are all brilliant suggestions, thank you.

Gogreen Ooooh, I love it when people smell freshly laundered. How do they do it?!
