I really don't notice.

I have a lot of stuff on my mind these days and as I'm pretty much done with our lives here in this place and it's just a matter of months till we move on, I couldn't care less.

TinyGang · 11/06/2007 10:56

The only place I've ever seen those women was in the Mamas and Papas pram catalogue

Lizzylou · 11/06/2007 10:57

I am this sort of person, (rather than the other thread slagging other's dress sense off ). I always think everyone looks better than me.

i do every day lol!

can;'t afford new clothes, my socks are the ones i had when i was about 17 (I'm 25) and when my make up ran out i stopped wearing it as too expensive to get more

bobsyouruncle · 11/06/2007 11:01

Me too Lizzylou, and I DO make an effort with clothes, makeup, hair etc. Come to conclusion it's just my low self esteem & it wouldn't matter what I looked like I'd still feel like that!

twolittleducks · 11/06/2007 11:03

I feel the same, roll out of bed feeling rubbish, go to playgroup feeling rubbish.. Usually have extended family telling me im looking a bit 'old' and frumpy (i am 22) but my kids look clean and happy even if i do look nakered, hair scrapped back of me face type thingy

colditz · 11/06/2007 11:03

Oh MOM

How about a cheap brand, like collection 2000? Lippy and eyeshadow not too bad if it's cheap, and foundation can be skipped.

TheBlonde · 11/06/2007 11:04

FB - I feel the same. Lots of yummy mummy types round here

Flumpybumpy · 11/06/2007 11:04

No, not a SAHM I have two part-time jobs as well looking after my friends two children on the days I don't work.

I am permanently shattered so grooming is way low down on my list. I know I really should make an effort and stop comparing myself.

Hmmmm maybe if I stopped playing on MN and went I painted my toenails it would be a start

at the mo, even that is out of the question colditz

I get clothes from my (younger, slightly larger than me) sister sometimes so its not like i don't have new things. just not brand new.

Lizzylou · 11/06/2007 11:05

Bobs, I've always been the same, even as a size 10 freshfaced 16 yr old, I do make an effort but just feel like a wallflower most of the time.

My Dh and my DS's love me though!

bobsyouruncle · 11/06/2007 11:09

Me & dh were joking around at the weekend about us getting old, and he made a comment about still looking good though. Was well chuffed until I realised he was talking about HIMSELF and not me

KaySamuels · 11/06/2007 11:09

I am the same, always end up spending any spare money on ds, never treat myself to new clothes. Have two pairs of jeans that I wear, and two skirts!! I did buy a lipgloss from primark a while ago for a pound tho that I have almost used up. It is clear at one end and and shimmery colour at the other and I have been really pleased with it.

I am lucky I have a very talented hairdresser friend who I childmind for so every so often we do a 'trade of skills' (she does my hair and I knock some money off her bill). I pluck my eyebrows, shave where necessary, wear lipbalm or gloss, and get out in the sun so I'm not too pale! Those are my only things I do!

I totally agree about the self esteem thing though, even some of those flawless mums will be feeling just as doubtful about themselves under there layer of make up.

gscrym · 11/06/2007 11:11

I hiss as I shuffle past in my combats, straggly hair and stained t-shirt.

DrNortherner · 11/06/2007 11:15

Oh anniemac how do you link to a specific post?

expatinscotland · 11/06/2007 11:17

I keep my toenails painted now out of force of habit. I used to do it because I nearly always had a black toenail or two from sports, and nail varnish hides that rather well .

I felt like this until recently.

I have started:

always brushing my hair in the morning ,
painting my toenails,
always shaving my legs as i used to forget - another
wearing nothing that doesnt fit properly - it halved my wardrobe but has made me feel better,
wearing a nice fitted jacket rather than a grubby fleecy hideous thing,
and wearing more skirts rather than jeans.

GlassSlipper · 11/06/2007 11:22

and lol @ bobsyouruncle's DH

OrmIrian · 11/06/2007 13:23

"feel like a big fat frump" And I want to know how everyone looks thinner than me - even though I'm smaller than I've ever been and have a BMI of 21. And the odd occasions that reality intervenes I know that I'm reasonably slim. It p*sses me off that I can't be more sure of myself but I can't stop doing it. A few years ago DH got fed up with it and on the beach in the summer told me to point out women who I though looked the same size as me - without exception I had chosen women who were more or less overweight and much bigger than me.

I think that seeing yourself in a negative light is a learned habit and it's hard to unlearn it. Ditto seeing everyone else as more attractive. Annoying isn't it?
