If you don't wear jeans what do you wear for casual?

I am really happy all summer in shorts as I love the fit and feel both smart and comfortable all day (school run / aldi smart I mean not glammed up)

I hate the time to go back into jeans and trousers and I have just realised that it is because I always find jeans uncomfy. Leggings are not warm enough and I don't have other trousers. I need something that does not drag in the puddles etc on the school run, which is why skinny jeans work in principle.

So I always end up in cuffed tracksuit bottoms which are oh so comfy but massively scruffy.

I wear suits / dresses and tights on my work days and don't relish wearing more of that.

So what do I wear?

I wear skirts most days, but will also wear running tights that have been washed too much and have stretched.

TroysMammy · 12/09/2018 08:57

I wear leggings, a tunic dress and knee high flat boots. If it's really cold I swap the leggings for jeggings.

pumpkinpie01 · 12/09/2018 09:02

Following this, I need ideas too !

Millybingbong · 12/09/2018 09:08

I am considering full on sports gear although I don't intend to do sports...

Jeggings look like jeans but feel like heavier leggings.

Next usually have a good selection.

Sitranced · 12/09/2018 09:48

Skirts or shorts with tights. Not a popular look on mn I know but it suits me and I feel comfortable in it.

Bloomcounty · 12/09/2018 09:57

Jeggings in various colours, or leggings with a long top over. I also have a selection of jersey wide legged pull on trousers from M & S. I think they consider them jogging bottoms, but they're not cuffed at the ankle, just loose. They're incredibly comfortable but smarter than joggies. I do work from home though so I get away with an informal look.

pumpkinyael · 12/09/2018 12:19

Trousers (with leggings underneath if it's very cold).

Skirts with thick tights and or leggings, knee-length boots and a jacket (or a coat). Quite comfortable, warm and not particularly scruffy :)

Millybingbong · 12/09/2018 14:02

Hmm thanks for options but I'm not too excited about them. I am easily bored of wearing black tights after 3 days at work, leggings and tunics are not for me, and those wider leg trousers drag in the mud on the school run. So it is jeggings really which I never find comfy. Too sad

Skinny chinos? Smarter/lighter weight than jeans, but just as comfy. I buy mine from Joules but lots of places sell them. I have them in neutral colours (navy/khaki) and also brighter colours.

Branleuse · 12/09/2018 14:12

H&M do some heavyweight thick leggings which are great for winter

pumpkinyael · 12/09/2018 14:13

and those wider leg trousers drag in the mud on the school

Straight leg trousers?

I am easily bored of wearing black tights after 3 days at work

Colourful tights with a style of skirt you like?

Bloomcounty · 12/09/2018 14:24

How about "smarter" joggies? Gymshark do some lovely ones, if I remember correctly. More lux athleisure than sport.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 12/09/2018 14:29

What about Harem pants? Or I wear baggy (yellow) corduroy dungarees, with the bottoms rolled up around my ankles? Both are super comfy, warm, and sort- of - hippyish - smart!

EmmaStone · 12/09/2018 14:45

I've got a pair of slim fitting stretchy trousers from Cos which I wear sometimes, but largely it's jeans, TBH. I've tried "smart" joggers, but they don't seem to suit be very well.

I'm tempted by the short wide-legged trousers that are everywhere, but not entirely sure how to style them.

MrsMariaPolouvicka · 12/09/2018 15:05

I think there are plenty of comfy trousers that aren't jeans or jogging bottoms, but you need to search. I like tapered, slightly cropped trousers, they seem to work with trainers, ankle boots, brogues, loafers etc for me. Then tops which work are slim fit knits, sweatshirts, tucked in shirts, t shirts...

All these for me are casual yet not quite descending into jogging bottom territory:

I wear nice leggings with old leggings underneath when it's cold.

hammeringinmyhead · 12/09/2018 15:07

Expensive (mine were £15 in the sale) but Hush joggers are cuffed and don't drag, wash well, and are very comfy.

www.hush-uk.com/womenswear/daywear/trousers_jumpsuits/amie_joggers.htm

I smart/casual them up with nice (not sports) trainers, so something leather with an almond toe or some Converse, and a leather jacket.

notsurewhatshappening · 12/09/2018 15:09

Also I have some boyfriend jeans with turned up hems which look nice with pumps or converse. No dragging in the mud.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 12/09/2018 15:18

I think that you might not be in the right jeggings if you don't find them comfortable. I'm an apple-shape and I'm wearing Uniqlo jeggings and they're very comfortable. I also sometimes wear Wallis Demi jeans (stretch so quite like jeggings), they do need hitching up after bending down or getting out of the car though, whereas the Uniqlo ones stay in place.

You could also consider plain black stretch trousers with straight legs if you wanted 'smart'. Again, I find that Uniqlo stretch and Wallis stretch suit my shape, but it's worth trying on a few different brands if you can.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 12/09/2018 15:30

Have you tried treggings?

(bloody ridiculous word but it does what it says on the tin)

yakari · 12/09/2018 15:32

What about cords? I've some really comfy pairs that are styled like jeans but lots of options m.asos.com/search/?q=corduroy+trousers

Or a slim cut combat style like this m.asos.com/asos-design/asos-design-slim-leg-combat-trousers-in-khaki/prd/9718555?clr=khaki&SearchQuery=combat%20trousers&gridcolumn=1&gridrow=5&gridsize=2&pge=1&pgesize=72&totalstyles=12

Millybingbong · 12/09/2018 15:41

Thanks very much. I am liking the sound of either straight leg trousers or a rolled up boyfriend style cords or maybe jeans.

Things I need to hitch up our out I am afraid

I have some boyfriend chinos which are very comfortable. Cigarette trousers is another option
