What do you think?

The style is my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE coat style EVER, it suits me down to the ground. I had a funnel neck coat years ago that I eventually had to ditch after too much wear and it was one of my most-loved things I've ever owned.

I don't need it to be a warm winter coat, in fact I don't WANT it too warm; I run quite hot and live in London where (usually) winters aren't even that cold. I have a puffa warm winter coat for cold days anyway. This is meant to be something for autum days and nippy mornings.

I suppose my doubts are: is it a lot of money for the quality? The cut is beautiful but it's not pure wool (an acrylic/wool mix) and I'm normally fussy about things like that. That said, I don't think £180 is a LOT to pay for a coat (don't get me wrong, it's not el cheapo by any means but I don't think I've ever bought anything like a decent coat for less than £100-£150...)

And will the herringbone pattern get all fluffy and/or just annoy me after a while?

Pros are that I love love love the style, it fits really well and I like the colour.

Thoughts...?

Oh and I've just seen online it does come in plain black, exactly the same tyle but with more wool and a touch of cashmere.

I like black too...

Should I return the blue herringbone and get the black?

Or are there better coats out there with my name on them...? Grin

You love the style and wore the last one to death. You are happy with the colour, the cut and the style.

I say keep it!

(FWIW I think it's very elegant)

BumbleeBeeMe · 06/09/2018 14:32

I love it!

VauxhallVectra · 06/09/2018 14:33

That said, I don't think £180 is a LOT to pay for a coat Shock

Shock I think that is a lot of money for a coat.

I don't like the coat, sorry, I just don't think it looks like £180 worth. I can't put my finger on it. It just looks a bit "meh", like something you'd pick up for £30 in Dorothy Perkins.

Fairylea · 06/09/2018 14:33

I really like it in the blue. Personally I’m not a fan of anything swing style because being a size 16 myself I don’t need any help with making my bottom half look bigger! But that’s more about me than you. I love the funnel neck and if you like it I’d keep it. I think it’s a fair price for the quality.

JessiCake · 06/09/2018 14:34

Thanks WineGummyBear and Bumble... I feel guilt-free now! Grin

It's elegant I'm aiming for (no idea if I'll achieve it); DD has just gone into Year 1 and though I work from home I'm trying to claw back a hint of style. In the old days I used to even be quite glamorous Wink but it's been parka-and-wellies every autumn for so long, I'm just dying to throw on something easy but a shade more fabulous.

I think it's nice and I like the herringbone. I bought myself a coat 2-3 years ago for £200 and still wear it a Joules one. At the time I thought it was a lot of money but I don't anymore

JessiCake · 06/09/2018 14:36

Vauxhall Grin coats used to always be my HUGE splurge items, I never could justify expensive shoes or jeans but in my pre-child days coats were my 'thing'. I have had some gorgeous ones over the years including one that cost well over £500 but which I wore for almost 10 winters, so I sort of get away with coat spending by justifying that I keep them for ages!

Fairylea, I get what you're saying about swing style, I'm tall and scrawny so I quite like the shape it gives me...

@JessiCake

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as rude! I'm not a big coat person (I'm still wearing my £12 Primark one from about eight years ago).

I'm a bastard for spending on watches though which is stupid because I can't really wear one at work Hmm

Winterwoman007 · 06/09/2018 15:51

I think swing coats are an unflattering cut. I always wonder if the woman is pregnant.

tierraJ · 06/09/2018 15:58

It's not my style as I am big up top so it wouldn't look right but if you really like it then go for it.

I think it's important to like your coat & for a coat to look good on you as you'd wear it so much - it represents a persons style in the winter really.

Grumpbum123 · 06/09/2018 16:03

I love that style and want one in red

Racecardriver · 06/09/2018 16:07

I have had a coat in very similar fabric for over a decade now. It's very practical. But the black buttons ruin that coat I think. Re pure wool vs acrylic if you prefer a cooler coat than acrylic will be better for you because it isn't as warm. It also holds shape better so will be more durable.

Jitters22 · 06/09/2018 16:11

I absolutely love it!

I want it!

Not just the style, but the herringbone.

I once had a fab herringbone overcoat - Crombie style - back in the day and I loved that coat so much.

But yours combines the fabric with a great design. It would suit me too - but unfortunately the price is a bit beyond me.

If you can afford it then have it! I would.

averythinline · 06/09/2018 16:17

I like it better in the herringbone than the black (too solid) ( i too had a much loved crombie) the acrylic is more practical than cashmere esp if it rains! think it will keep its shape btter...it does seem expensive for that mix of fabrics but if it hangs well and suits you then go for it...

Mercurial123 · 06/09/2018 16:32

I really like it. Certainly doesn't look like something you'd find at DP.

Summerfalls · 06/09/2018 17:14

I like it! Keep it

TroubledLichen · 06/09/2018 17:20

I really like it and think it will look great of you’re tall and slim.

£180 isn’t even close to what I would consider a lot to spend on a coat but that isn’t important, what matters is whether you like and you can afford it.

Bugjune · 06/09/2018 17:52

It's lovely, not something that I could ever pull off but I'd admire the elegance of the wearer.

I can't think of a single reason why you shouldn't have it!

TomHardysNextWife · 06/09/2018 17:55

I'd happily wear that. I think it's very versatile and you can wear with jeans or smart.

And it's not expensive either so win win.

Raven88 · 06/09/2018 18:13

I really like the style. I has a Tokyo street vibe about it.

JessiCake · 06/09/2018 19:33

Wow, almost total approval of the coat!

OK I am keeping it Grin

VauxhallVectra don't worry, I didn't think you were rude at all!! Just happy to get the feedback!

I am tall and scrawny with no chest whatsoever and wide shoulders so coats hang well on me. I bloody love autumn and winter whereas throughout the summer I am green with envy of lovely tanned (I am ghostly pale) curvy people who look fabulous in flippy skirts and strappy tops. Hence my expenditure on an entire 'coat wardrobe' - at least, pre-DD. I'm trying to shake off the parka limbo and get back there.

Raven88 I have no idea what a Tokyo street vibe is but you have UTTERLY made my night as whatever it is, it sounds fabulous.

Thanks v much all, and glad to hear approval of the herringbone rather than black.

fwiw it looks better in real life than in the pic, the fabric is lovely and soft (hence my concern it may fluff) and has a lovely sort of texturedy aura. The shae of blue is nicer in RL too.

Kenworthington · 06/09/2018 19:36

God I love that coat too op. In fact I may also need it. I’d love love love that style and herringbone in a midi length. That would be the dream coat for me

JessiCake · 06/09/2018 19:44

Go for it Kenworthington!! We can be coat twins...

I may have seen a longer length version, hang on (don't get hopes up as may have imagined it)

OP posts:
JessiCake · 06/09/2018 19:47

Not in the herringbone, Kenworthington, but there is a longer length funnel neck coat in black

www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-fit-and-flare-funnel-long-coat-black/p3703535

If that's anything like the kind of thing you mean?

Doing a smidge of coat enabling myself now... Blush
