Can someone talk to me about facial hair?

It’s getting to be a real problem!

I’ve always been fairly hairy. Blonde, fuzzy. It’s getting much much worse on my face (I’m 31).

Moustache hairs are getting longer, I’ve got patches of blonde but with hair on my chin and I have the occasional really long blonde hair appearing from no where.

I pluck the wiry patches and the long stray ones when I see them, but it’s so time consuming and I’m really paranoid as they catch the light.

I understand laser doesn’t work as well on light hair? Do I bite the bullet and get my face waxed?

You could give threading a try especially if its more fuzzy than wirey.

No more painful than waxing imo, but you may need to go for weekly sessions depending on re-growth.

I wax my own top lip, it takes a few seconds and hurts for a brief second but it's over very quickly. I do it before bed and put some almond oil on afterwards to soothe the skin and take off any sticky residue.
I had my top lip threaded once and never again!! It took ages and really hurt, my eyes were watering and top lip was red for the rest of the day.
I buy wax strips from Home Bargains or similar for about £1, they seem to work just as well as the more expensive ones I tried.

formerbabe · 03/09/2018 19:22

I either get my top lip/chin threaded while they're doing my eyebrows...hurts like hell but great results and pretty cheap.

Or

I buy the facial wax strips from the poundshop and do it myself. Pain is very brief...I also do my sideburns at the same time.

ittooshallpass · 03/09/2018 19:28

Electrolysis will sort them out for good.

TheMarbleFaun · 03/09/2018 20:07

I've bought one of these works well

Marble - is that a razor or an epilator please?

Chopsypie · 03/09/2018 20:12

I’ve been looking at those things on amazon.

Is electrolysis different to laser and will work on my fluff?

I’m nervy of waxing as once had my ‘tache done and came out in a rash which drew even more attention to it!

It’s sort of like a mini mans electric razor I suppose 1travel

No no is your friend. I had dark hair on my top lip and used to wax it. No no gets rid of it with no pain at all. I use it on my arms and legs too. I wish it had been around when I was younger

MorningCuppa · 03/09/2018 20:24

I have what Themarble has and it's great.

PawneeParksDept · 03/09/2018 20:27

I'm 37 and have suffered from unwanted hair for since teens.

I'm sorry to tell you that NOTHING has worked.

Some success with the Lumea but you can't wax or pluck in between and I can't go that long.

Success with threading but really need to stick to a schedule.

Think I've become immune to the creams and the wax strips don't always stick right

My best solution has been plucking with tweezers on a bi weekly check basis.

They all grow at different rates as well so it's like painting the Forth Bridge

I wish I could be more help OP and I wish SOMEONE SOMEWHERE would come up with something PERMANENT that actually WORKS!

I use this and find it great. Have mainly relied on threading before, but always ended up with a week or more where there was enough regrowth but I couldn’t manage to fit an appointment in. This just takes seconds every week or so. Hurts but works Grin

picklemepopcorn · 03/09/2018 20:38

That tweezerman thing is only a couple of quid on amazon.

I use the Japanese facial razors. They are great.

Racecardriver · 03/09/2018 20:40

I've recently started using wax stfips at home. Very quick and easy.

NewUserNameTime · 03/09/2018 20:41

What about dermaplaning? It's great for freshening up skin but also removes hair

LittleMissedTheSunshine · 03/09/2018 20:44

I've heard the IPL laser is good but pricey at around £500 to treat the chin area alone

BobbinThreadbare123 · 03/09/2018 20:45

I can't believe Tweezerman charges that much! Well, Boots. I use the 99p wax strips from Body Care and one of the springy coils from Amazon. I am dark though, so they're easy to see to get. Quite pleased with the epistick and got my mum converted too. I have a Lumea but there's too much waiting!

Chopsypie · 03/09/2018 20:49

What’s an epistick? Do you have a link to the one you use?

OP posts:
BabyTeeth · 03/09/2018 20:52

Blonde hair - has to be electrolysis. It will work but takes a while. Try and find a place that is registered with the British Institute of Electrolysis electrolysis.co.uk/ if you’re in the UK that is.

zerozerooneone · 03/09/2018 20:54

I agree with epistick. It took me a couple of gos to get the technique right but once you've sussed it so easy to use.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 03/09/2018 20:59

Oh sorry; epistick is the springy coil thing. I can't remember exactly which brand I got but I got two in a pack from Amazon. www.amazon.co.uk/Epistick-original-facial-hair-epilator/dp/B004LNXA0Y?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Belle89 · 03/09/2018 21:01

These are great and cheap too. Can't believe I've only recently discovered after faffing with waxing and tweezers

shhhyou · 03/09/2018 21:35

I've got one those Tweezerman coils but I can't make it work. Does it work on fine blond hair too?

annandale · 03/09/2018 21:42

I use the Lumea. Im on the fifth treatment so far (one every two weeks). I shave inbetween - i thought you could use any haur removal in between! I feel like i am definitely seeing a difference but it's a long term commitment. The biggest difference ive noticed so far is on my legs but i think growth on my face has slowed down, especially in areas where i have tiny patches like my lower lip.

Needahairbrush · 03/09/2018 21:48

Epistick is the way to go! I got mine for about £3 on eBay. It gets the finer ones too, not just thicker dark ones.
