Parlux hairdryer - is it really worth £90?

So I've been thinking of getting a new hairdryer. I don't straighten and want to get a very lightweight small hairdryer.

So is a parlux really worth it? And if so which one do you have and would recommend? Open to other suggestions too

This is the one I have been looking at

I've got a normal sized one and it's great but to start with I did find it very heavy. I did have a dodgy shoulder when I first got it though and now I don't notice its heaviness other than any other hairdryer now feels too light and flimsy. It is great, but I'm not sure it's hugely different in performance than other hairdryers.

Whalebird · 29/08/2018 21:17

I love mine, and of the three hairdressers I've been to in the last few years, all use Parlux. It's a tool you use every other day (or so)-buy the best you can afford /nana face

ThisMustBeMyDream · 29/08/2018 21:21

I got one 4 years ago as my present to myselffor my 30th.

My hair looks the same as it does with any other hairdryer.

I wouldn't buy one again. Just a regular £30 cheap one for me next time!

insertimaginativeusername · 29/08/2018 21:40

I recommend them, although I also have a normal sized one. Heavier than a 'regular' hairdryer to begin with but I'm used to it now. My hair definitely dries quicker and is smoother.

dudsville · 29/08/2018 21:43

"Nana face" is the best typo I've read recently! What did you mean to say?

AnneLovesGilbert · 29/08/2018 21:44

I love mine. It’s the first and only hairdryer I’ve ever bought and I’ve had it about 5 years. I have loads and loads of hair and I tend to blast my fringe and the top so it doesn’t go poofy.

Get one. They’re amazing.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 29/08/2018 21:48

I love mine. Although I didn’t pay £90. I got it off eBay brand new in box for, I think £40ish. I wouldn’t pay £90 for one tbh. Not unless it was a magic hairdryer that washed, detangled and dried my hair without me lifting a finger Grin

Lentilbaby · 29/08/2018 21:48

Yes! You'll never go back 😊

Glaciferous · 29/08/2018 22:02

I have a Parlux and absolutely love it. It is the best hairdryer I have ever had by miles.

BarbaraHepworth · 29/08/2018 22:03

Yes!

LucilleBluth · 29/08/2018 22:33

Get the light version, it's fab.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 29/08/2018 22:50

I have the big one and it's great. Still going strong after nearly 20 years.

ChishandFips33 · 29/08/2018 23:15

I've had mine about 5 yrs now. I got the compact ceramic

At the time I had a cheap babyliss -might have been Boots own brand-- and I remember being amazed at the time difference in drying

Wasn't particularly blown away (!) by the ionic spec though

HandOff · 30/08/2018 15:04

Thanks everyone. Is anyone selling theirs second hand by any chance?

AnneLovesGilbert · 30/08/2018 17:27

Grin don’t blame you for asking OP but I’m keeping mine till it dies on me.

Have you looked on eBay?

HandOff · 30/08/2018 18:03

@AnneLovesGilbert :) Had a look on eBay but nothing it showing it at present. Would just love to try one before I purchase it. I wonder how long they have warranty for?

LoveGigi · 30/08/2018 18:33

I would say so, I’ve have mine for 8-10 years and it’s brilliant. Whenever I can’t be near it and have to use someone else’s hairdryer, I remember why I bought a Parlux. If mine died, I’d buy another one in a heartbeat.

HandOff · 30/08/2018 18:36

I'm conflicted as I have been lots of more recent reviews where people have written that theirs blew up.

I am thinking perhaps I should try this Diva, which is around £47 and may be the compromise in terms of price? www.amazon.co.uk/Diva-Professional-Styling-Rubberised-Hairdryer/dp/B0068KEOEE/ref=zg_bs_2868092031_41?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforum-21&refRID=76BDYTR70RP1BWZ8V3K4

insertimaginativeusername · 30/08/2018 19:27

I've seen Diva used in salons so they must be ok but I bought my Parlux (same model you're looking at) for under £60 from amazon...if you're not desperate for a hairdryer right now I'd track the price.

3luckystars · 30/08/2018 19:32

My hairdresser called nana face* recommended DIVA hairdryers, said they are excellent and TKMax has them sometimes.

*Her name isn’t really nana face

ThePricklySheep · 30/08/2018 19:34

I have the compact, £76, I like it. It’s definitely quicker than my previous hairdryers.

HandOff · 30/08/2018 20:02

@insertimaginativeusername Thanks, would you mind linking to the one you bought please? As I can't find one that went under £60

So after much deliberation (and going back and forth!), I've order [[https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00ROYQR48?tag=mumsnetforum-21/]] Diva for £32 off Amazon. Hopefully it will be OK, if not I will return it and save up for a Parlux ...
