Wanting rid of stomach overhang

FlubQueen · 24/08/2018 13:12

Has anyone ever had surgery or non surgical lipo to get rid of a stomach overhang?

I've had two laparoscopies for ectopic pregnancies and two caesarians, and have also gained and lost weight a couple of times.

I'm not keen on a tummy tuck as I've had enough of invasive surgery, but am not sure if any other treatment will make much difference.

I've started a new fitness regime and want to keep this up for a year before I go for any surgery. I'm losing weight but I suspect some of the skin and fat isn't going to shift, no matter how much I diet or work out.

If anyone in a similar situation has had any work done I'd love to hear how it went.

Can't help sorry but shamefully marking place as I'm 2.5months post c section/pregnancy weight gain and I'm beginning to suspect I might have the same issue.. hopefully someone will have the answer for us!

elmo1980 · 24/08/2018 19:46

Placemarkeing too (sorry op) but I'm 3 months post second section and whilst it's gone down a bit with dieting it definitely needs a boost.

What fitness regime are you doing op?

madeyemoodysmum · 24/08/2018 19:48

Same 2 c sections. About 7lb over weight but I hate my saggy overhang. Big pants are the only answer with out surgery I think.

FlubQueen · 24/08/2018 20:40

Hi all,

I've done a couch to 5k, and am in the middle of doing a 5k to 10k programme. I'm also swimming 1k two times a week.

I'm now 14 stone and was 15 stone 7 before I was pregnant. I've shifted a stone over the past 2.5 months by exercising more.

I'm a bit wary of dieting too much as I'm still breastfeeding a 4.5 month old.

The weight's going and my arms and legs are in better shape than they've been for years, but my stomach is a mess.

If there's anyone out there who can enlighted us all, please post!

Bloody hell Flub. How do you find the time?
Another’s placemarker here. I’ve had a bit of a C-section pouch for over 20 years and seems to be getting worse now I’m post menopausal Sad

beepbeeprichie · 24/08/2018 20:57

I’ve lost loads of weight and am now really quite fit and strong. But it’s still there!!! I can’t do any invasive surgery. Anyone know of a sort of “hold it in” vest????Smile

Queenofthedrivensnow · 24/08/2018 21:26

I e got really lazy now but post section I found the only thing that helped was a fuck ton of ab exercises and either fake tan or sunbeds for the stretch marks.

zippyswife · 24/08/2018 21:32

After my 2nd cs (third dc) I lost 6 stone within 6 months through tonnes of excercise and healthy eating. I looked so toned and lithe apart from my stomach which was a wreck. I’ve put on 1.5 stone since and my stomach looks a better better. Still an overhang but losing so much weight made it seem to look worse somehow.

DaffoDeffo · 24/08/2018 21:37

I agree - I lost 2.5 stone and it looks much worse! But it is starting to pull in a bit. I think I will always have that extra skin. Looks like a peach with a dip in the middle fgs. Need to wear a high waisted bikini to keep it in grrr

finethen · 24/08/2018 23:14

Place marking too - I've lost 4 stone and whilst it has shrunk it still looks horrendous - hate it :-(

Illegally18 · 24/08/2018 23:38

Am having a tummy tuck on Tuesday to deal with my overhang. Will report back

Bacere · 25/08/2018 00:10

Are you going private illegally18? Hope you don't mind me asking as it is something I would like to know more about exercises having no effect.

CookPassBabtridge · 25/08/2018 10:59

I'm interested too. There are a lot of great control waist things on the market at the moment if you don't care how you look naked, but if you do then tummy tuck is the only way.

Mrsramsayscat · 25/08/2018 11:03

I have this (in my 50s) but I'm a stone over my BMI. I have to confess that when I lose that stone, as I do occasionally, it disappears. Unfortunately the best and quickest remedy is to lose the stone, either through diet or exercise (but mainly diet).

CremeDeSudo · 25/08/2018 11:19

@illegally18 how much does a tummy tuck cost? Hope you don't mind me asking!

I've never been slim enough to have my tummy out, so as long as magic knickers keep it in check I like to think I'll be ok with it. Do magic knickers help op?

cheesemongery · 25/08/2018 12:25

shamelessly place marking too. I had no problems following my C-sec with DS,but following the same with DD is another matter. Although I do have excess weigh to lose so can only try that first.

FlubQueen · 27/08/2018 22:56

@illegally18 - Good luck for tomorrow. Let us know how it goes.

@Lunaballoow - it's not been too bad, surprisingly! I've been doing swimming for 18 months now and kept it up all through my pregnancy so it's just part of my week. The running started off as half an hour three times a week - I'm doing longer runs now, but I start off the workout as soon as I leave the house so it's pretty efficient in terms of calories vs time.

I have an extensive collection of control garments but there's only so much they can do to hide the fat and the extra skin. The best thing I've found is a sort of body corset thing that doesn't cover my boobs and has a hole to wee through. Obviously I couldn't wear it all the time though!

I am 9 yrs post 3rd section and my kangaroo pouch is still there 😢 I'm not overweight-could do with a little toning but nothing shifts it. My scar is adhered to underlying tissue so I have extra skin with nowhere to go. I have just tried ice lipo where they freeze your fat and then it supposedly just melts and drains away but am not really sure how much it helped.

NicoAndTheNiners · 27/08/2018 23:34

I’ve lost two stone, dropped two dress sizes and it’s still there. Am seriously considering proper lipo, none of that non surgical bollocks. Suck it all out that’s wha I say! Have emailed for a quote. 4K, am ringing them back tomorrow.

CookPassBabtridge · 28/08/2018 10:36

Nothing will shift it as it's loose skin, exercise would never do anything. It needs cutting off. Wish it was cheaper..

TantricTwist · 28/08/2018 14:30

I know we all want to get rid of of our overhangs but tbh loads of us have one, we've had children, if we see other women with one we just think great she's just like me and think nothing more of it.

None of us would look a each other negatively would we. It would be nice not to have an overhang but as so many of us have one is it really so bad.

FlubQueen · 28/08/2018 22:24

@MsJolly - That's helpful, although I'm sorry yours didn't shift. I've got quite a lot of scar tissue and I had wondered if that would affect what I could have done and how well it would work. I had also thought about non surgical lipo but am a bit sceptical.

@cookpassbabtridge - I think you're probably right.

OP posts:
Bacere · 28/08/2018 22:40

Agree but, it's just another part of me that I do not really see in others . I would be interested to know how others hide or get rid of it even though I'll no doubt continue to live with mine.

Deux · 28/08/2018 23:23

There's something called Coolsculpting that I’ve read positive reports about. Might be worth taking a look at. It's not an alternative to weight loss but can allegedly tighten up and reduce the appearance of troublesome areas.

TantricTwist · 28/08/2018 23:34

I always see so many overhangs of various sizes in bikinis on holiday every year and they all look fine tbh. I wear swimming costumes as my overhang is not going on display quite yet although it would have if I had bought a bikini as I realised noone cares and loads of women had overhangs the size of mine which isnt really as bad as I make out to myself.
I cover mine by wearing certain tops, jeans with a slightly higher waist I guess, shift dresses in the summer and denim skirt works wonders.
My overhang has gone down considerably as I've been following the SW plan, I dont go to meetings just follow the general principle and it has made a huge difference to me actually. I did think I'd like surgery as it does make a huge difference but you know so many of us have an overhang that I just quite honestly don't care so much about it any more.
