Mutton

Following recent posts I've noticed on the S&B board, I would really love to know what is mutton dressed as lamb? As in, can anyone actually define it or post a picture of someone who is mutton dressed as lamb? To my mind it doesn't actually exist, and is just another way of saying "badly dressed". People seem to use it as in, I need an outfit but I don't want to look like MDAL but what do they REALLY mean by this? if a dress doesnt look right on you then to my mind it's because it's too short or too long for your proportions or you have the wrong shoes with it, or another reason like that. This mutton thing is just lazy talk I think.

I'm getting on in years - in my 50s - and if I get dressed and don't like what I see, I don't think I look like MDAL. I just think I'm badly dressed.

I am aghast at some posts on this thread!

Do you people really think women exist to look pretty for men? Then therefore the sole purpose of a woman is for sex???? That they dress just to be looked at? And those parts that - god forbid- slightly aged should be covered? Then how about aged hands? Face? Hair? Should old people maybe cover up under a burka in order to not hurt your sensibilities? How dare these old people even get out of their houses? They should not even sit in restaurants. After all, sitting and having a drink as a woman is also just about getting male attention, no?

I have a suggestion for you. STOP being misogynistic and ageist. Try to evolve.

The point is Rosewhite, that people can look not insta perfect in all sorts of clothing and at any age. You, my dear, don't seem to understand anything about reality. Fixated as you are on fictional references. Perhaps stop watching so much shite tv, and stop reading so many crappy blogs, and actually think about before you type.

RoseWhiteTips · 22/08/2018 19:40

Fictional references? Huh?!😳

RoseWhiteTips · 22/08/2018 19:41

Chillax.

rightknockered · 22/08/2018 19:42

In fact Rose white you have similar views about women as my narc ex. Figures .

RoseWhiteTips · 22/08/2018 19:42

I look bloody good in a short skirt and no tights, I look amazing in figure hugging clothes, and if I want to, I can dress is a sexually attractive manner.

Okaaay. If you say so. Should be up to others to judge though, “dear”.

RoseWhiteTips · 22/08/2018 19:43

Lots of French women do it well. Apart from the Macron woman.

dailyshite · 22/08/2018 19:44

Havent RTFT as I'm totally gobsmacked by Echo2.

My sister is in her early 40s and has the most incredible figure because she is a fitness instructor. Her legs go on forever and she always is tanned. She wears tiny shorts and short skirts and is head and shoulders above a lot of the young people I see wearing similar outfits at work.

If I wore it, I'd look shocking, because I have curves and cellulite. Frankly I don't care that I have curves and cellulite because I'm happy in my own skin but I wouldn't force other people to look at it.

Echo2 - I hope you learn to appreciate that age is just a number and love the individual as opposed to the rules.

championquartz · 22/08/2018 19:44

My goodness. It’s hard to believe that you can write agreeing some women dress as MDAL.
Can you not see the internalized misogyny within that?? By liking women to mutton, a pice if old tough meat, you are demeaning women and their worth, and deferring to the superiority of men, (for whom there is no comparable ‘mutton’ term). You are unconsciously biased towards men.
No matter how we dress we will be judged. Too boring, too little clothing, too much clothing, too mumsy, frumpy, too sexy, too made up, too hairy, too colorful, too black, etc etc. Judging each other is one of the many ways of oppression.

Recognise it for what it is. Just stop and think.

Nope. Very female indeed. Get a gripHmm

RoseWhiteTips · 22/08/2018 19:54

What? You think I am your ex!? This is batshit.😆

rightknockered · 22/08/2018 19:55

"get a grip" just like my ex. Perhaps you will follow with "stop being so dramatic and sensitive"
Narc ex

RoseWhiteTips · 22/08/2018 19:55

I really think you should stop now. You are not coming across well.

RoseWhiteTips · 22/08/2018 19:56

Wow😳

RoseWhiteTips · 22/08/2018 19:58

People have different viewpoints and on a forum you have to take a mature line and accept that. It really is not worth behaving badly about it all.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 22/08/2018 19:59

Batshit thread with a goady agenda.

rightknockered · 22/08/2018 20:00

Yes, so why are you trying to be so offensive to all women?
I'm pointing out to you that you carry the thought patterns of men that hate women. That is all. You can take it and think about it, or you can carry on in your own ignorant way.

RoseWhiteTips · 22/08/2018 20:06

Hmmm

Destinysdaughter · 22/08/2018 20:06

Well this thread has taken a weird turn...

This is talking about even older women but I love Jane Fonda’s style in Grace and Frankie. Stylish, classy and yes, even sexy! ( and she’s 80...)

To me one of the things about getting older is having your own sense of style, knowing what shapes and colours suit you and not being such a slave to the vaguiries of fashion!

So not so much mutton, just less of a sheep...

RoseWhiteTips · 22/08/2018 20:08

Jane Fonda has had a tonne of work done but yes, she looks great.

Timefortea99 · 22/08/2018 20:14

Liz C is a real person - ex footballers wife, now middle aged, famous for going to the opening of an envelope wearing very little clothing. Full name Lizzy Cindy. Woman in red dress and thigh length boots in photo above.

Liz McDonald - fictional soap opera character.

You can wear what you like, whatever you look like. But people will judge you. Either to say, she has good legs, or blimey she looks a bit mutton - wearing clothes that don’t suit the age she is. Very few clothes these days are muttony. I saw that thread about hoodies - somebody who was 37 asking if she was too old to wear one. Hoodies are ageless IMO, but lots of clothes aren’t.

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/08/2018 20:17

I was thinking of women over 65, rather than 35, Rightknockered. 35 is still young!

A few years ago I went on holiday to Mallorca. There were a lot of older Swedish holidaymakers at our hotel, and they looked fabulous - great haircuts, linen clothes, eye catching accessories and sandals. No fear of colour. The Brits of the same age wore beige or pastel colours and were utterly unremarkable - indeed unnoticeable. Or they wore very short shorts, strappy tops, stiletto sandals, lots of bling and make up (like Dorian in Birds of a Feather). The contrast between the three groups was quite marked!

Redrosebelle · 22/08/2018 20:18

This thread!!! Shock

I love clothes, love shopping etc but my goodness I would never judge a woman (or man) by what they wear. I’m too busy thinking about my own life! Where do you get the energy from to pick women apart and encourage name calling?! Wow.
