What would you say to your 19 yr old DD who is set on lip fillers even though she's perfectly beautiful as she is?

She's not even got small lips even though it wouldn't matter if she did. I think they (natural ones) can look far more subtle and nice. Or as she's 19 maybe I've got no right to advise her? Any thoughts would help.

I read an article about lip fillers that got infected and the whole lips had to be cut off. Must be on Google somewhere.

funmummy48 · 21/08/2018 06:25

I think I'd Google some of the horror stories & photos of lip fillers gone wrong & show her some photos of celebrities with natural lips too, so that she can see how unnecessary it is. Other than that, there's nothing else you can do as she's an adult. Sorry!

Happygolucky009 · 21/08/2018 06:27

If she is set in them, I would look to find a reputable company and not contribute a penny! As an adult, she should be able to make her own choices but needs to make an informed decision

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 21/08/2018 06:32

Thanks all, I just think she's so young. You can forget they need to make their own decisions but I worry she'd get used to it or it could progress.

Also she's lovely as she is and I want her to know that.

I think I would find pics of trends over the last 20 years to demonstrate changes in fashion as pouty lips will prob not be fashionable in the future. But she probably doesn't care if she looks good at 30 as it's now that matters .

fruitpastille · 21/08/2018 06:35

What about looking at make up alternatives?

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 21/08/2018 06:39

Good ideas, thank you.

Get her to try Huda Beauty Lip Contour - it's a makeup technique to make your lips look bigger (although Huda has clearly had fillers herself!)

I'd also show her the Geordie Shore girls and some of the Towie lot who are young but have completely ruined their looks by going down the cosmetic surgery route young and getting carried away.

HotTeaCup · 21/08/2018 06:47

Can she get a temporary fix to see how they would look first? Definitely go to a specialist. Find out much the reversal would cost. 19 is very young to start making permanent cosmetic surgery changes. For me, at 19 pain/botched results would have been a big deterrent but I'm a bit of a softy Blush.

Xiaoxiong · 21/08/2018 06:50

I'd remind her that styles change and not to do anything permanent. Look at all the girls who plucked their eyebrows out in the late 90s early 00s who now have no eyebrows left!!

VanillaSugar · 21/08/2018 06:52

Meg Ryan

Lesley Ash

Pete thingy from Dead or Alive - he was sooooo beautiful before he destroyed his face

Bride of Wildenstein ....

Don't ask her why she wants to do it. Ask her how she'll cope if it all goes horribly wrong...

Good luck 🤞🏽

God I would be devastated but not sure what you can do at that age. It has to be one of the worst looks together with sharpie eyebrows.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 21/08/2018 07:04

Loving the replies. Going to show her this thread,

Look at Leslie ash.

Move to a place where lip fillers are not the norm (Paris?!?).

Buy her a fancy lipstick and tell her to get her teeth sorted eg a brace or cleaned instead - whether she needs that or not!!!

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 21/08/2018 07:08

She has perfect teeth but thanks Confused.

Would love to move to Paris though.

As someone in my very early twenties, who wanted full on cosmetic surgery , my mum resisted and told me all the horror stories and went on about everyone who has a botched job and I would just roll my eyes an show her the thousands that went amazingly etc. When you're insecure and young, you want what you want. I'm sure she is FULLY aware of what could go wrong but she'll essentially have a 'it won't happen to me because I'm going to a really good person who has given amazing results etc'. My mum changed her stance and offered to come to a consultation with me and she calmly told me she'd support me but that the consequences of the outcome were all on me. I didn't end up getting my surgery as I ended up wanted l stay 'natural' but I'd honestly say tell her the risks but support her. The more you make her feel that she's too young and incapable of making choices about her own body, the next time she gets something done she may not even tell you. It's great that you have a relationship where she does and you don't want to ruin that. The fillers may end up being great or they may end up being terrible but she's got to learn that on her own.

Jillyjollyjandy · 21/08/2018 07:13

Came on to say Pete Burns. His got so infected they oozed pus.

Also, the rest of the population think they look ridiculous.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 21/08/2018 07:18

Thanks Choclife that was helpful as I wanted to understand her perspective and I've only voiced my doubts once to her, because I know it won't help.

She sounds like me when I was 19, I had lip fillers and ended up with a wonky Cupid’s bow. My lips were lovely to start with and now i have ruined them! Does she know that Kylie Jenner has just had her lip fillers dissolved as the natural look is ‘back in’? Best example I could think of for a 19 year old x

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 21/08/2018 07:24

What about those lip pumping lip glosses? I used to use one (years ago) and it worked.

HappyStripper · 21/08/2018 07:29

Just as a note, lip fillers only last 6 months so it isn’t a permanent procedure as some are suggesting. It can still be dangerous and if she is completely set on it do make sure she’s seeing a proper doctor and not a beautician but honestly most of the lip fillers you notice are the very very badly done ones, the well done ones just look like very nice plump lips.

redcaryellowcar · 21/08/2018 07:31

I have a couple of friends who are very into lip fillers and post photos of themselves constantly on Facebook with them pouting away, I think they look ridiculous and over done, my concern is what will happen when they decide they no longer want them plumped up? Will they deflate and end up with saggy lips. Or will they have to continually get slightly more filler to keep them 'going'?
Also worth asking, if you do go for a consultation what are the costs, including top ups and how often will you need these. What is the filler made of, is it safe long term etc?

annandale · 21/08/2018 07:36

Tbh i wouldnt hold back on your shock and horror. Though not more than once.

A 20 year old of my acquaintance talked about getting a breast enlargement a few years ago. I wouldnt flatter myself that i had anything to do with her decision not to but when i said 'WHAT? WHY ON EARTH' she at least heard a voice from the normal world where this is all abnormal and weird.
