Basic t shirts that don’t twist or warp in the washing

M&S
H&M

I’m looking at you

In my third appeal on S&B this week please tell me where you get flattering basic tshirts for >£10 that won’t twist or warp in the wash/tumble drier

They need to be less than £10 as we have a baby and a toddler and there are only so many times tomato pasta and prune purée can be washed out.

I just want a top that won’t look cheap, or make my boobs look squint and has a life span of longer than a month.

here

I have these in every colour, they wash great and don’t go out of shape. £8 each.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 19/08/2018 08:33

Never thought of Next!

What makes me giggle is that I have a 5 pack of tees for baby DS and all the options here are the same as the ones he has bar the pink one.

Uniqlo supima cotton ones. Wash lovely, nice colours, think they are about right price, but watch out for offers and sales. I wear them for work so can dress up or down.

YeTalkShiteHen · 19/08/2018 08:35

Haha you’ll match! I’m really lazy most of the time, one of those tops, skinny jeans and trainers/boots. It’s easy when you don’t have to put together an outfit Grin

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 19/08/2018 08:50

Thank you @ohwhatfuckeryisthisnow

Uniqlo served me very week yesterday in The Great Jeans Quest™️ so perhaps I should invest in some tees; I just always thought their tees looked a wee bit on the thin side and prone to warp

I have just had some from uniqlo. I ordered quite alot with the intention of having to return some. Nope, keeping them all which is unheard of. There are quite a few in the sale.

LittleMissBananaHammock · 19/08/2018 09:19

Uniqulo. From the t shirts and the same long sleeved tops. They last years.

ferrier · 19/08/2018 09:22

Next are the best of a bad bunch but make sure you reshape them as soon as they come out of the drier.

I must have a look at Uniqlo. As a shop I really don't like them, their styling just seems very ... clinical(?) but they do seem to do the basics well.

dudsville · 19/08/2018 09:22

I'm a 12/14 and I recently bought mens gap tshirts. 100% cotton. I'm 5'7" and they sit just at the top of my hip, don't twist, extremely lightweight, soft fabric but not see through, perfect for wearing under jackets. I bought a few long sleeve and a few short sleeve. The only thing I'd say is the white one is a thicker material.

starfish8 · 19/08/2018 09:26

Another vote for Uniqlo, excellent quality

Floisme · 19/08/2018 10:01

I'm sorry to hear that about H&M - I always used to recommend their Ts.
I begrudgingly agree about Uniqlo in that I find the quality pretty random but they're now the first place I look for reasonably priced basics.

I also agree that men's Ts are often better quality - my husband is very fussy and always gets his from Sainsbury's. (Unfortunately the shape and fit don't work for me.)

I see you have a baby and a toddler so feel free to tell me to fuck off but, if you can get away without tumble drying them, that might make a difference too. Everything I've heard about them is that they're really hard on clothes.

daisychicken · 19/08/2018 10:08

Do Next or Uniqlo get those holes at the waist? I have cheaper T's and holes apoear after just a couple of wears.. really irritating!

YeTalkShiteHen · 19/08/2018 10:27

My Next ones don’t and those wee holes are usually the bane of my life! I’ve had them for 4 or 5 months so far and wear them all, a lot.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 19/08/2018 10:32

Totally @floisme you could not be more right and the thing is, I do try and avoid the dryer; what’s bent me all out of shape right now is my latest H&M one wasn’t even tumbled!

Sainsburys men's t-shirts are fab, really lovely thick quality cotton... Why don't they apply the same standard to their women's tops??! It really irks me at the moment that I can't get good quality basics from any of the high street shops... Everything is thin or nasty feeling man made fabric. I haven't tried uniqlo yet so will give them a go!

Floisme · 19/08/2018 10:34

I'm annoyed on your behalf Paul I'm so disappointed in H&M - they've really gone to the dogs.

Floisme · 19/08/2018 10:37

I am also going to investigate Lands End. I know I know I know but I've bought a couple of their basics in charity shops and been quite impressed.

blodynmawr · 19/08/2018 10:52

Lands End Quality is brilliant.
Off topic but I recently got this denim esque dress from there which is fab for chucking on with jeans or leggings to look instantly quite smart. It is a thick cotton jersey material, far more comfy and forgiving than proper denim. Must've been quite popular though as looks like only size 8 is left!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 19/08/2018 11:02

yes @mairzydotes

Here’s an absolute truth: the M&S cotton tshirts and 3/4 length tops are utter shit; Primark beats them hands down on quality in those and jeggings too. Even though both warp in the machine, at least Primark tips are thick enough not to the lace of my bra in forensic detail ffs

OP posts:
PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 19/08/2018 11:04

Only problem with Lands End is their stuff appears to be < £15 and that’s too much for me; I literally need about 10 tshirts a week, no joke

OP posts:
starfish8 · 19/08/2018 11:52

@mairzydoats yes and aside from the mens t-shirts being better quality they are also generally cheaper! Noticed this in Next too, their mens t-shirts are much better quality.

Looks like they think we are mugs!

BikeRunSki · 19/08/2018 12:11

Bam bamboo clothing t shirts are superb. They are more expensive, but I bought 3 in a same about 18 months ago and they still look new. They’ve been washed and worn 100s of times!

BikeRunSki · 19/08/2018 12:14

Ah blodynmawr. I wanted that dress! I saw it in the catalogue which arrived the day before we went on holiday. Came back from holiday, went to order it and it’s sold out in all but tiny sizes!

MalibuDreaming · 19/08/2018 12:54

I've found ASOS to be good. Not brought tees from them as yet, (next purchase) but have some of their basic vests. Very good quality imo and crucially not see through.

MalibuDreaming · 19/08/2018 13:01

*granted white underwear under white you will see.
