DH is ex RAF, he says to dress to survive in whatever climate you are flying over.

Branleuse · 31/07/2018 14:23

i dont wear anything different to usual, although i guess if i was going from a hot country to a cold one or vice versa, id layer or carry layers

kenandbarbie · 31/07/2018 14:28

Redneck, that's I bit extreme!!!

HundredMilesAnHour · 31/07/2018 14:29

I usually wear a jersey (so no creases) dress in a dark colour (so it won't shown any spills / stains etc) with either leather leggings or plisse wide legged 3/4 length trousers, plus a silk or cashmere scarf to smarten it up (also handy if I'm cold on the flight). Comfort is key but I also want to look smart as there are times when I may go straight from the flight to an event / meeting. Easy to take off the leggings/trousers if I'm travelling somewhere hot from somewhere cold and vice versa. Footwear is always comfy but stylish (might be long walks through airports or I meet need to run to make a connection). Never flipflops (no good for running), rarely boots (anything about the ankle means taking them off at security). Current favourite is some leather trainers from Paul Smith.

kenandbarbie · 31/07/2018 14:29

I wear jersey tracksuit bottoms, trainers, vest, t shirt, black waterfall cardigan and denim jacket. Lots of layers I can take off.

CaseStudyResearch · 31/07/2018 14:36

I tend to wear gym leggings with a long top, soft bra, zip up hoodie and normally flip flops although I carry a pair of thick socks and a big thick scarf/blanket.

MamaMumMama · 31/07/2018 15:04

Loose trousers (think m&s wide legged silky), comfy smart sandals, a vest top and a hoodie or tailored jacket as you never know how hot or cold the plane will be. I also take a pair of socks Incase my feet get cold.

YukonGold · 31/07/2018 15:06

Always closed toe shoes that stay on until the seatbelt signs go off. Ditto that they go back on as soon as the seatbelt signs come on during the descent.

Other than shoes usually jeans and a comfy top with joggers to change into if long haul.

MorrisDancingViv · 31/07/2018 15:11

Leggings, t-shirt, hoodie or cardigan. I always wear trainers - flip flips will be useless if I crash land on top of a mountain!

I never dress to impress as I never fly with an airline with first class so have no hope in being upgraded Grin

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 31/07/2018 15:18

If it's a long flight, something comfy such as leggings and pj jumper. You can always pack an outfit to change into in your hand luggage for after you land.

TakeMe2Insanity · 31/07/2018 15:23

Jeans trainers long sleeve tops cardigan in bag. I’ve tried to whole loose trousers just a shawl and find i get too cold.

I watched far too many plane crash films as a child so also dress to survive or at least get out of the plane in an emergency landing scenario.

HeyMicky · 31/07/2018 15:25

Jersey harem trousers, vest top, scarf, cardie if cool at either end and trainers.

Extra knickers with a pair to throw away if flying long haul.

ineedwine99 · 31/07/2018 15:28

Dress and leggings or vest top and loose trousers, smart sketchers pumps, cardigan and a pashmina in my bag if needed, socks too to keep my feet warm

bellsbuss · 31/07/2018 15:29

Just OH and I then il wear jeans, nice top and heeled shoes. With the children flat shoes, jeans and a top that won't show the marks from little grubby hands

Skittlesandbeer · 31/07/2018 15:40

Ha! Just got off a 30 hour long-haul series of flights. Had a while to view everyone’s travel clothes choices and do my thinking! Was flying from origin 32 degrees (humid), transit was 45 degrees (dry heat), finishing at 11 degrees (winter storm). Not easy!

Pinterest is a great research tool for this, by the way (search ‘long haul outfit’).

The only thing I’d add to their general advice (usually leggings, tunic top, waterfall cardi, slip on shoes) is that I prefer linen wide-legged pants with fold-over waistband instead of leggings. Roomy, not sweaty, more stylish. I also always wear a long cotton scarf. Handy to keep your main outfit clean and extra warmth in air-con situations. I also pack clean spare knickers to change into at the halfway point.

So my travel clothes today were: slim fit chambray trench (to low hip, good to carry essentials in pockets), thin navy double tee with long sleeves/tank, olive linen long wide-legged pants, blue/white/olive infinity scarf, compression knee-highs (hidden!), blue/white adidas slipon sneakers. Smart but super comfy.

Always amazed by people wearing high heels and tight skirts. Or going the other way and wearing essentially pajamas. I’m sure that neither of these options elicit much respect and assistance from airline staff (on the ground or in the air). On long-haul, you need all the help you can get!

LockedOutOfMN · 31/07/2018 16:21

Flat shoes like loafers with jeans or other slim / skinny fit trousers, long sleeved T shirt, sweater and or jacket if it's cold, and always a scarf that doubles as a blanket.

confusedmomm · 31/07/2018 16:51

Jeggings, t-shirt and hoodie w trainers or ballerinas

flickflop · 31/07/2018 17:00

Stretchy jeans, comfy trainers, tee shirt, sweatshirt, scarf and flight socks.
Never contact lenses. Le Pliage bag.

kenandbarbie · 31/07/2018 18:05

I'm surprised at the amount of people worries about crashing on a mountain!!

LemonysSnicket · 31/07/2018 18:13

Leggings, shorts, soft things

MadMaryBoddington · 31/07/2018 18:26

Comfortable but smart. It always pays to be smart when travelling as if/when things go wrong you can find yourself at the mercy of airline staff/hotel staff/car rental staff/immigration officers and god forbid, consular staff. It shouldn’t matter how you are dressed, but in some countries and some situations, it really does. Plus you might drop lucky and get picked for an upgrade if economy is overbooked (unless you’ve got the kids with you of course),

FiestaThenSiesta · 31/07/2018 18:27

Always closed toe shoes - usually sneakers. Don’t want to be unable to walk due to broken toes in an emergency because you were the wanker in flip flops

MorrisDancingViv · 31/07/2018 18:38

@kenandbarbie I remember reading about this when I was a child. Trainers and layers just seem more practical to me than maxi dresses and wedges just, just in case, I survived.

SporkInTheToaster · 31/07/2018 18:45

Yoga/lounge type wear. Soft, light, non restrictive, easy to layer.

Easy to slip on/off footwear as I fly without shoes for more comfort & less swelling. I travel with clean socks in my hand luggage so tend to slip them on if I get chilly.

If I’m doing short haul to somewhere in Europe I might just wear a normal holiday outfit (shorts, t-shirt, lightweight dress etc).
