Interested to hear of what you find comfortable to wear when travelling?

It always amazes me that you see some women all dressed up and wearing a full face of make-up at stupid-o-clock in the morning. I'm lucky to be up and dressed!

AcrossthePond55 · 31/07/2018 18:56

A parachute 😉

dragonslair · 31/07/2018 19:30

I fly long-haul a lot northern to southern hemisphere, so upside down climates. I wear stretchy jeans, linen shirt, jersey blazer, comfy trainers. Lucky enough to have FF status so can use lounges and quite often get upgraded, which means I like to look passably smart, but comfort is number one consideration.
No jewellery. Cardigan, t shirt and Mahabis slippers in handbag (LePliage tote). On the plane, blazer off, slippers and cardigan on (if chilly). Glamour!! Before arrival, if hot, change into t shirt on plane.
For short haul in Europe, in cool weather, stretchy jeans, trainers, shirt and blazer as above. In summer, loose trousers, t shirt, trainers, cardigan in handbag (LePliage, as above).
As others say, always closed toe shoes. I like trainers with stretchy laces (ie not actual laces) as good for slipping on and off at security. No belt. Nothing to slow me down through the scanner.
I've got it down to a fine art!!

dragonslair · 31/07/2018 19:34

Oh, and if landing or leaving from somewhere cold, I wear/scrunch up in handluggage one of the Uniqlo down jackets.

YukonGold · 31/07/2018 19:54

I don’t wear closed toe shoes/ trainers in the event of crashing into a mountain, rather an emergency on takeoff or landing where I may have to evacuate a plane in a rush, in the dark with broken glass or flames around. Plus then hanging around on a runway waiting for help!

YukonGold · 31/07/2018 19:58

Dragonslair I too wear easy security clothes, no jewellery, belt etc! My trainers have elastic laces, easy on, easy off, likewise my loafers ( no laces obv lol)

FiestaThenSiesta · 31/07/2018 20:15

I remember watching that movie as a young kid and I remember it so vividly because I sort of never really “got” that Christmas Day was in summer time in some parts of the world until that movie. I was transfixed.

inniu · 31/07/2018 20:25

On long flights loose trousers, t shirt, long cardigan, slip on shoes. All in navy with a chunky necklace that doesn’t trigger security alarms. Always full change of clothes with me.

Rainshowers · 31/07/2018 20:31

I never wear jeans. I find even the comfiest pair annoy me on a plane. And I never wear bare legs because I hate my legs touching the plane seats!

Usually soft trousers, tshirt, cardigan and trainers. And always comfy knickers. I’ve also been known to take my bra off in the toilets mid-flight. I just hate feeling restricted!

delphguelph · 31/07/2018 20:38

Fat pants, dark coloured top, scarf, cardy.
Comfy shoes.

Skittlesandbeer where are your foldover linen trousers from?
I always look like a bag lady on flights- am very in awe of people who look well put together!

badlydrawncat · 31/07/2018 23:05

If I'm flying somewhere warm, I wear a mid-length, loose linen dress with wide mid-length sleeves and my beloved Onitsuka Tiger trainers that I can wear without socks. I also take a fine wool wrap to double as a blanket and tie my hair up with a scarf and take spare knickers. If it's cool where I'm landing, I take a packable down jacket that I can use as a pillow while on the plane too.

If it's cool here on take-off, I wear leggings and a long sleeved tshirt underneath the dress. If it's cold I top it with a merino sweater. The sweater, tshirt and leggings are removed before landing and the dress sleeves are rolled up so I'm cool for onward travel. I also essentially have another outfit of tshirt and leggings if needed in an emergency.

violetbunny · 01/08/2018 09:59

I also never wear jeans. Last time I flew long haul I wore these pants (which are lightweight and elastic aged): www.moochi.co.nz/clothing/pants/des-pant-black

Plus a loose white tee, blush pink soft jacket, and this scarf (which I also used as a sarong at the beach!): www.rosaliving.com/image/cache/data/floressents/fpasa04_1-500x500.jpg

Interviewee1001 · 01/08/2018 10:09

My friend (ex flight attendant) always advised packing a swimming costume in hand luggage when going on holiday so if you bags get lost/delayed, you can at least lounge by the pool whilst waiting for them.

ScrumpyCrack · 01/08/2018 10:39

I don’t understand how anyone can wear jeans long haul. They’re uncomfortable and restrictive, cold when cold and hot when hot.

I do a sort of smart jogger/legging mix from Next. Stretchy and comfortable but look like smart black trousers. Sports bra and t shirt. Cardigan and slip on shoes. Scarf which I’ll use as extra cover/pillow and as protection from the sun as my neck burns no matter how much sun cream I use. Then I always carry a pashmina wrap type thing in my bag. I get cold easily Grin

Rememory · 01/08/2018 13:12

I've just bought the Hush Crop Palazzo pants. Not quite sure what I'll wear on top yet thinking of a long sweater but I'm hoping to find a lovely soft scarf too. I'll probably wear flip flops and replace with socks on the flight.

MinesaPinot · 01/08/2018 13:25

I only ever do short haul so usually soft jersey trousers, cropped padded soft bra top under loose vest top/t-shirt, toning long scarf and my trusty, battered, denim jacket. Slip on shoes for going through security. And carry a Le Pliage or Kipling bag. Minimal jewellery.

In short, nothing that is likely to hold me up at security (because I'm always the one that gets beeped.....)

Actually, thinking about it, I wore much the same outfit on my one and only long haul flight. Only difference was I added some fresh undies in my bag together with a pair of socks as I wasn't sure how cold it would be.

fluffyflick · 01/08/2018 13:39

Please think about flight socks if you're travelling long haul regularly, on the combined pill, HRT or are overweight.

Plus they keep you warm and help stop your feet swellingWink

senua · 01/08/2018 13:46

I wear as much as possible, including my heaviest footwear. Nothing to do with safety; it's all about keeping my luggage within weight restrictions.Grin

Sweetheart · 01/08/2018 15:03

Well I am flying in 2 days and have now had to rethink my entire flight outfit as well as avoid reading a story about a plane crash Grin

Rememory · 06/08/2018 08:38

My palazzo pants are actually the Me and Em ones not Hush. They are so soft and comfy without being too casual or too dressy. They won't crush either so I won't look my usual wreck getting off the flight. Wink

Toms
Joggers
Linen shirt

ilovecherries · 06/08/2018 13:51

I’m not afraid of flying (I don’t think!), but I have always dressed for an emergency. Trainers and socks, always, and they don’t come off. Long trousers, usually of some type of dry-tech material, long sleeve tee shirt.

Johnnycomelately1 · 06/08/2018 20:25

Currently in Frankfurt airport waiting for connection to HK- wearing denim cut offs, vest and light scarf, vivo ballet flats. Light v neck sweater in my bag. I normally just wear whatever I’m wearing.
