How long did your piercings take to heal?

I’ve just had my Daith pierced this morning.
Have wanted it done for months and months but never got round to it and was shitting myself about it too
I LOVE it so much.
I’ve already taken some Ibuprofen as it aches like a MoFo.

Oh that’s good news. How did you take care of them? Just wash with soap and water?

Sorry that question was for Sadie

I did use the cotton buds and saline as recommended by the man who did them, but I was a bit lazy tbh and only did it for about a week. I also got bored with tilting my head to the side in the shower so after about a fortnight I just showered as normal, making sure all shampoo was washed out of ears. Possibly not the best at looking after them but they've been trouble free.

GrimDamnFanjo · 31/07/2018 22:16

My forward helix took about 9 months.
i'm two months into a top helix on the flat of my ear and i reckon it will be the same.
My conches took about 6 months.
Cartlidge piercings are much trickier to heal.

partypeople · 01/08/2018 10:57

I really want to get a daith piercing too - yours looks great, ReckIt! I've also read they're good for people who get regular migraines/headaches (aka me!) but tbh don't know how scientifically proven that is.

I got my second lobe piercings in Feb this year - I was told they'd take 3 months to fully heal but one of them has played up on and off since, and only now (6 months on) are they both pretty stable. I guess it varies from person to person.

I'm planning to get a third lobe piercing next month when I'm back from hols, and eventually working my way up to cartilage piercings (helix and tragus, but maybe also forward helix). It's addictive, isn't it?

My only questions/concerns re: daith piercings would be a) general hygiene around the ear, esp during healing times, and b) what would be the deal around wearing earphones/buds? Obviously, you wouldn't be able to wear these during the healing process, but is this something you have to give up entirely if you have a daith piercing? I can't imagine it would be that comfortable...I need to do some more research, I think!

ReckItWralf · 01/08/2018 12:07

Yeah I don’t know about headphones, don’t really use them often.
I washed it thoroughly last night and this morning, used soapy water and then rinsed off with shower head. Then had to take a photo to make sure it was clean as I can’t see it just by looking in the mirror.

Doesn’t hurt at all today but I’m being super careful not to knock it.

Post a photo when you have it done partypeople

I’m about a month into having my daith, SFIL quite sore and I’m normally a very fast healer

60sname · 01/08/2018 12:15

@Starstruck2020 My rook was quicker than my antitragus as the cartilage is thinner and also it's more protected as not near the edge of your ear. Still a fair while though, 6 months+ iirc.

partypeople · 01/08/2018 12:57

ReckItWralf - fair enough re: headphones. I tend to wear them all the time, esp. as I have a long commute, so while it's not a dealbreaker, I definitely need to think about it and do some more research (which is conveniently also going to be the length of time it takes for me to stop being a wuss Wink).

If/when I go ahead with it, I'll definitely post a pic. For now I'm looking forward to that third lobe -- it's weird, I only had one set of lobe piercings for years and years, and yet since having the second set done, I'm already feeling like there aren't enough holes for all the pretty jewellery I want to wear! Exactly how I feel, any nice earring shop recommendations. I’ve just bought studs & buggies from the below & love them.

Scream Pretty

Plughole3 · 01/08/2018 13:14

huggies not buggies!

ReckItWralf · 01/08/2018 13:30

I’m the same! Had my first lobe holes at 16/17 and then didn’t have second ones till I was 31 and now I’ve had third lobe holes and Daith a few days apart.
I’ve looked at so many YouTube Videos and it didn’t look too bad it was but ‘no pain, no gain!’
I’m looking at getting another tattoo next week too, just got to decide where I want it.

Glad it’s not just me getting piercings in my 30s then!!

SadieHH · 01/08/2018 14:19

I'm 46! Grin

plughole3 - I love the earrings at Tada and Toy and Scream Pretty. I really want the latter's huggies but I think they will be too small for my lower lobe piercing which is quite high up the lobe (does that make sense?). I suppose I could wear them in the second hole though...

Others I've bought from recently:

  • Astrid & Miyu (great non-pierced ear cuffs, which I'm also into),
  • Missoma (depends on what you get - I'm coming around to the feeling that most of their pieces are overpriced for what they are, but it is all vermeil)
  • Edge of Ember
  • Mejuri (Canadian so import charges apply. I have only bought from them once because with those charges it just didn't seem worth it, but if you're ever there or know someone who can buy them for you, they have lovely designs)

I often find myself browsing the Wolf & Badger website as they have a great range of brands/designers that I may not have found on my own. Increasingly these days I'm looking for demi-fine (usually vermeil or gold) jewellery rather than plated, though I still like the cheap and cheerful stuff you can find at ASOS or on the high-street.

I love BVLA and Maria Tash designs, but sadly I cannot bring myself to pay their prices!!

Mol1628 and others - definitely not the only ones getting piercings in your 30s/40s! The piercer who did my second lobes told me as I walked in that she was seeing many clients my age and older coming in for second, third, fourth piercings. She also told me that many people came in dreading the pain, and left feeling addicted and planning their next one. In my case, she was absolutely right!

ReckIt - I love tattoos on other people, but I have such a fear of needles I don't know if I could get one myself!

Margueritte · 01/08/2018 15:43

Anyone had their nose pierced? I'd love that (delayed adolescence) but I'm scared of it taking ages to heal.

Plughole3 · 01/08/2018 19:57

partypeople I wasn’t sure if the huggies would fit me but they do. Thank you for the recommendations, not heard of some before. Love the Mejuri stuff, yep Maria Tash started my obsession!

Jonsnowsghost · 02/08/2018 17:53

@Margueritte I've got my nose done :-) I wear a tiny stud in it as rings don't suit me. It didn't take that long to heal. Doesn't hurt to be done but makes your eyes water!

SplodgeBear1988 · 02/08/2018 19:04

Daith for migraines - It really works. I have gone from 3-4 a week to 1-2 month if that.

Earphones - I still wear in ear ones but tent to choose ones that loop over the top of your ear and the smallest buds.

Healing - Mine took 18 months before I could change the jewellery on my own without an issue. I tend to use curved barbells as they don't catch on anything.

Jonsnowsghost · 02/08/2018 19:53

Oh and my ear is pretty full and I can still wear in ear headphones

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 02/08/2018 20:04

I got my tragus pierced as a 'happy birthday to me' treat at the beginning of May. At the time I was told no in-ear headphones until it healed (I tried, it wasn't comfortable!) and to come back in 2 months to check the healing. I think it was 10 weeks before it felt completely fine, although the web said it can take 6-8 months for cartilage piercings to fully heal. I went back this week, they checked it and I bought a slightly shorter piece of jewellery and had no problems swapping them out, and I can now get in-ear headphones in (yay!)

soulrider · 02/08/2018 20:30

My first helix took forever, definitely over a year, but don't remember having any trouble with the second.

Greenyogagirl · 02/08/2018 20:34

It varies per person, I had 4 in each lobe which only took a few weeks, the helix, tragus, daith etc took about 4 months.
Nipple took over a year to heal! Had several tongue piercings and still have the holes despite being told if I took the bars out they’d close within days lol

partypeople · 03/08/2018 09:44

SplodgeBear1988 - that's amazing re: migraines! I get them so often, and if a daith piercing could even just reduce the frequency it would make such a difference to my life.

Thanks also to you, Jonsnowsghost and MrsDmitri re: the advice on in-ear headphones. Seems like it's not something you have to permanently give up if you have a lot of piercings.

Plughole3 - happy to help! Have fun shopping for loads more pretty jewellery!

ReckItWralf · 03/08/2018 11:09

Does anyone have any tips on how to get the dried blood off?
I’ve stood under the shower for five minutes this morning but it’s still there.
Don’t want to agitate it with a cotton bud so will I just have to leave it until it’s healed up some more?
