If you're mid 30s, size 8/10, where do you shop and what do you wear?

Looking for ideas, opinions and inspiration, as I feel I'm dressing too 'young' for my age Blush

Im 39 size 10 (although not sure what size has to do with it) and I shop at Topshop, H & M, Primark, Hush, Mango, Warehouse, French Connection, Boden, sometimes Joules (rarely) and All Saints if I'm feeling rich (not very often). I buy All Saints in eBay mostly as it's really a bit too pricey for me but I love it.

Ypsilanti · 27/07/2018 13:50

38, 8/10 and buy most things in COS, with a smattering of Zara, Whistles, Boden (basics/classic cuts - no florals or frills), Hobbs, very occasionally Warehouse.

I aspire to look like a chic Parisian (and usually fail, especially in this weather).

Annabelle4 · 27/07/2018 13:51

Thank you Ellapaella!

Oh I think size is important tbh, I was a size 16/18 a few years ago and dressed completely differently, as certain styles and stores just weren't as 'flattering' on me (I'm not talking about other people here, just me), as well as the fact that I just wouldn't have been able to shop in certain stores then such as Zara or topshop, because even their size 'L' didn't fit.

I'm going to look on eBay now Smile

I see what you mean OP. I've actually just been browsing some lovely All Saints coats on EBay, have my eye on a few there in preparation for autumn!
I often see other people wearing stuff from Zara that looks really nice on them but whenever I've ordered stuff myself the sizing is all over the place and in store there is so much stuff I find it all overwhelming.

Annabelle4 · 27/07/2018 14:23

Yes, I find that too with Zara!

Grin at 'chic Parisian' Ypsilanti

38 and size 8/10. I struggle tbh. Today I'm wearing a Forever 21 sundress from a charity shop. I wear quite a lot of h&m stuff. Oasis is sometimes ok. Warehouse occasionally.

To be honest I live in my gym gear as much as I can get away with it!

HildaZelda · 27/07/2018 14:56

38 and size 6-8. I shop mostly in Zara, River Island, Primark, Oasis and H&M. I find places like Dorothy Perkins and Next a bit too frumpy and 'mumsy'.

Allthepinkunicorns · 27/07/2018 18:17

I'm 35 and a size 10. I normally shop online at asos. I often buy from oasis, warehouse occasionally next and new look. I have been doing the slow fashion challenge which means I'm unable to buy new clothes over the summer which has been interesting. I've been shopping in charity shops and ebay so have been trying brands I wouldn't normally touch.

Wiggler1 · 27/07/2018 18:22

33 and more of a 10/12 but H&M, Urban Outfitters, Jack Wills, Warehouse, sometimes Topshop (although not often these days), Uniqlo, All Saints (in the sale). Find it harder than I used to and have to sift through and try on more, but I think that’s because I’ve put on a bit of weight and the styles I used to wear as an 8/10 don’t suit so much anymore. Definitely done with Miss Selfridge and River Island now which we’re always my staples until my late 20s.

Didsomeonesaybunny · 27/07/2018 18:25

31 and size 8 prior to the pregnancy. Stores I shop at as follows:

  • Zara
  • All Saints
  • LK Bennett
  • French Connection
  • MeandEm
  • Jigsaw
  • Whistles
  • Ted Baker
Annabelle4 · 27/07/2018 18:58

Thanks for the replies.

I'm still wearing a lot of Primark and River Island... maybe it's time to move on Blush

35 and a size 8, I shop at Zara (sun dresses and play suits at the moment, some skinny black and navy trousers for work), sezane (love but pricey), Reiss (mainly for work), & other stories - silk shirts with a pattern, dresses etc, whistles, some Oliver bonas (I also like some of their jewellery)

tappitytaptap · 28/07/2018 18:55

I'm 33 and an 8/10 (when not 30 weeks pregnant!). A mix of H&M, Topshop, Zara..I'm not really sure where I 'should' shop either! Who is aiming at us?!

Vintage1980 · 28/07/2018 18:59

37 and size 10.
Whistles
Oliver Bonas
Hush
Maison Scotch
Abercrombie & Fitch (not the log0 covered stuff)
Occasionally Reiss / Ted Baker / French Connection (work stuff usually)

DownstairsMixUp · 28/07/2018 19:12

I'm 30 so a bit younger but mostly new look for me

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/07/2018 19:19

I wear lots of navy, khaki, white, black, denim. Tan accessories, just bought some nice nude colour skinny belts. I tuck all my tops in because I’m like you and Have lost lots of weight so I’m damn well going to show it off.

Lottie2017 · 28/07/2018 19:21

Oasis, Warehouse, Dorothy Perkins and occasionally ASOS. I struggle to update my wardrobe too!

RiojaHaze · 28/07/2018 19:23

I'm 37 and an 8 or 10.

I've found oasis has gone a bit frumpy recently which is disappointing as it's usually my go-to.

Love Zara for basics, new look normally has quite a lot of things that suit and are good value. Likewise H&M. The odd thing in River Island.

ASOS is brilliant for online.

Living in paperbag trousers, camisoles and jumpsuits at the moment from a mix of the above.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 28/07/2018 19:25

J Crew, and the less crazy side of Anthropologie.

Popcorninapot · 28/07/2018 19:37

I'm 38 and size 10/12. Lost my way a bit with fashion during the last 5 years and 3 pregnancies but rediscovering my style. Biggest change is being more thoughtful with what I buy and ditching manmade fabrics (and heels). Also buy a lot online as I never get to go shopping. Shop in much fewer places now but my list is:

Cos (favourite but you need to try on really)
Hush
Uniqlo (amazing for basics and natural fabrics at reasonable price)
Whistles and Reiss but only in the sale as think they are overpriced.
Odd bits from mango, Zara and topshop.
M&S but you have to wade through a fair amount of rubbish to get to the odd gem

I use Instagram for inspiration and often buy things based on seeing them on actual people - I use it like a magazine. Pinterest too.

justforthisnow · 28/07/2018 19:46

Maybe where I DON'T shop would be better than where I do...
Primark
H&M
Tesco
I WON'T buy plastic/pvc handbags or shoes, only leather or good quality travel bags (Knowmo, Hedgren).
I find most of what I need (professional work) in the following;
TK Maxx
ASOS
Mango Online (last years lines for buttons).
There is searching involved so not for everyone.

ManeNachger · 28/07/2018 19:58
  1. Size 12. Erm, dunno - all over the place! Mostly lookind and crying that nothing looks nice on my flabby tummy! I have items from: GAP work trousers; 1 nice top from Laura Ashley; ugly but roomy tops from H&M; nice bits from TK max, cardi from House of Fraser concessions of Maison something and another fancy one I cant remember the name of. Shorts, dresses from charity shop. I need to lose weight.
ManeNachger · 28/07/2018 19:59

Oh and I dont dress my age - just wear what the hell I want!

ballroompink · 28/07/2018 20:13

33 and 8/10 here - shopping mostly on eBay atm as have been on maternity leave but most of my stuff is from:

Zara
Hush
Boden (like most people, not the patterned or frumpy stuff!)
White Stuff (ditto)
H&M for plain basic long sleeve tops, t-shirts and vests
Toast and Jigsaw via eBay as can't afford brand new
& Other Stories
Whistles if I need a very smart dress (my office is super casual)
Gap for the odd thing (work trousers really)
Fat Face for the odd thing (plain chinos/shorts)

peachypetite · 28/07/2018 20:15

Oasis mango and warehouse
