Is £120 for cut and colour a reasonable price?

Just wondering, I paid my hairdresser about £120 for cut and colour, is that normal?
I like the result I have to say, but it does seem quite a lot to me.
It is a nice Aveda salon on the high street.

Sounds about right, my local aveda salon in the UK was £130-170 for a colour, cut and blow dry depending on who did it and whether or not I got highlights. Even at a Toni & Guy I doubt you’d get away with less. An independent might be cheaper but I tend not to risk changing if I find someone I like!

BackforGood · 25/07/2018 15:03

Not in my world it's not.
I pay £30 for that (and sometimes she'll trim one of my dc whilst waiting for the colour to take).
She's a mobile, and comes to me, so it does cost me a cuppa as well, and I guess I wash my own towel! Wink

It depends, location, level of stylist, type of colour (highlights, balyage etc).

I used to pay around that (at an Aveda salon), have paid more (Sassoon), and currently pay £50 for cut and highlights. The worst was the £150+ one, and little difference between Aveda and my current local one. I don't think price always correlates to quality.

CakeNinja · 25/07/2018 15:21

I used to pay that about 10 years ago at my local salon. I did get a glass of wine with it!
Until the salon owner sold up, built a salon at home and now charges me £50 for what she used to do for £120!

Mishappening · 25/07/2018 15:25

I'm just picking myself up off the floor- was that £120 you said???

Blimey!!

No wonder I keep my hair long and just trim the fringe myself now and again.

Dovesfly · 25/07/2018 15:34

I pay £65 for that with my mobile hairdresser, however when I went to a good high quality hairdresser £100+ was normal ( my mobile hairdresser does a better job....)

Viviene · 25/07/2018 15:44

Yes, it's normal.

TSSDNCOP · 25/07/2018 19:50

Mine is £185 so yes.

Marylou2 · 25/07/2018 19:56

Yes that sounds about right. Of course there’ll be people along to tell you that they pay £20 for a cut and colour and never leave a tip. I’m in the North West though and I imagine that London prices would be much more expensive.

Oly5 · 25/07/2018 19:58

Yes it’s normal I’m afraid

Cheerbear23 · 25/07/2018 20:00

It’s about £50-£60 where I am

XingMing · 25/07/2018 20:17

My very talented hairdresser (good at cut and colour) cut her charges by about 50% when she moved out of High St, major town premises. Don't forget the cost of rent and rates: it all has to be paid.

camelfinger · 25/07/2018 20:26

Sounds like a lot to me, but just looked at a website of an Aveda salon in Nottingham and it seems like from £50 for the cut and £50 for the colour.
I’m in outer London but we are awash with hairdressers so it’s £30 for a cut and blow dry on my high street and £50 for a colour although I don’t understand the terminology. I’m feeling lucky that I don’t need to colour my hair at all and only get it cut about three times a year. I think the Aveda thing makes it more expensive.

delphguelph · 25/07/2018 20:27

Seems dear to me, but its UK prices.

TeddyIsaHe · 25/07/2018 20:28

I pay £130 for a cut and blow dry, but, my hairdresser is incredible, and I only need go 3 times a year as the cut looks amazing even when it’s growing out. My one extravagance!

Chrisinthemorning · 25/07/2018 20:29

I pay around £65 for a half head of foils and highlights.

ChocAuVin · 25/07/2018 20:30

Sounds about right

ScandiGirl10 · 25/07/2018 20:34

I pay £170 but it’s for balayage, cut and style and they are brilliant and very specialised in this technique (also I’m in an expensive south east city). It hurts getting my card out at the end - but they make it look so natural that I only go every 6 months. I rationalise that it would be the same cost of getting my nails done every month which lots of women do Blush

BrazzleDazzleDay · 25/07/2018 20:37

I think I would die if someone charged me that! I used to pay £75 and really grudged that, now pay 45/50 for my high/lowlights and the 4 dc trims

DestinationReached · 25/07/2018 20:40

I pay £60 for cut and colour, not a chain salon though.

Justgivemesomepeace · 25/07/2018 20:46

I used to pay £120 for highlights and cut at Tony &Guy. I went on mat leave, couldn't afford it and went to a local cheap place. The colour is always better and the cut is fine but not always as good. It is however half the price so I'm happy enough with it and will never go back to paying those prices. I can't see enough of a difference to justify it and I much prefer the highlights I get now.

newmobile · 25/07/2018 20:51

Yes normal it is what I pay. can get it cheaper though but get what you pay for.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 25/07/2018 21:13

I'm in central London and I pay £170 for cut and full head of high and lowlights. I'm sure I could get it cheaper but she's excellent, so I suck it up.

CaseStudyResearch · 26/07/2018 14:06

I’ve just paid £150 for cut and balayage & toner in Bristol.

Paid £120 for the same in Manchester.

Loonoon · 26/07/2018 15:24

I’m south London, I go to a local hairdresser and that is what I pay for highlights, tint, cut and blow dry.
