Non crunchy hair product to enhance waves/curls

Looking for a hair product to enhance natural waves in my shortish hair and DD's long hair, which dries without feeling crispy & crunchy and preferably can be used when air drying hair.

I usually blow dry my hair straight but it's too much hassle in hot weather and looks too "done". Hair is naturally wavy but not necessarily in a good way Angry - might be hoping for the impossible but would love to make it look more tousled.

DD's hair goes wavy/curly in very damp weather - she wants it to look like this all the time!

Thanks in anticipation.

Try Cantu I like this. Superdrug have quite a few options for curly hair.

amazonianwoman · 22/07/2018 23:03

Thanks, this one?

Boucleme products are expensive but leave the hair soft and not crispy.

I've been using Twisted Sista (Superdrug) 30-Second Curl Spray. I don't blow dry my hair. Just spritz this on (works on dry hair too). They also do a shampoo and conditioner.

I have tried a few things...then found this, gives lovely soft curls without that scrunchy texture. I was pleasantly surprised!

If your hair is crunchy then you're not using the product correctly! Gel dries to a hard cast around the curls but if you then "scrunch the crunch", you'll be left with soft and defined curls.

CheshireSplat · 22/07/2018 23:09

Have you tried scrunching out the crunch? It's part of the curly girl method and works really well. Just take the crunchy curl and squeeze it gently pushing the bottom to the scalp and with all the products I've used the crunch disappears. Wish I'd known this years ago!

Waltzingmatilda65 · 22/07/2018 23:09

Yes but use sparingly especially on your DD’s hair as it can be heavy. I have curly but extremely dry hair.
I also love Lush honey shampoo and a Lush white conditioner (I can’t remember the name of it).

Andals SOTC cross-post!

amazonianwoman · 22/07/2018 23:33

Thanks all, haven't actually tried anything other than curl mousse years ago. Or sea water!

Will look up the curly girl method. I wish I had proper curly hair and not annoying kinks. It only goes curly if I've been in sea then wind, will have a look at the suggestions.

Cantu curl custard is good, but like pps have said you need to apply, let it dry with the cast on, then scrunch it off

SummerWinter · 23/07/2018 00:15

So at what point do you "scrunch the crunch"? Right after application or when it's gone crunchy?

amazonianwoman · 23/07/2018 00:31

Good question Grin

Tesco own brand glossing serum. £1!

lecossaise · 23/07/2018 00:46

I like Aussie products for my wavy hair. I hate the crunch and scrunching mine just makes it instantly frizz. Not a product but I also stopped brushing it (unless it's super tangled then I comb it before washing) which seems to keep it curler!

LittleWingSoul · 23/07/2018 01:11

I also stopped brushing it

I never brush my hair unless I am about to wash it! I look like yoko ono if I do Grin. Growing up, my mum never really understood my curly hair so was always getting me to brush it... Hence me spending most of my childhood and teens with a voluminous fuzzy mane!

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/07/2018 04:27

You don't scrunch the crunch until your hair is completely dry.

dontevenblink · 23/07/2018 04:42

littlewingsoul me too! I had lovely curls until my mum had my hair cut short at about 5 and then she insisted it be brushed constantly but it was just a huge mane! Got called birds nest more than once at school...

Have embraced my curls now though again in my 30s, after many many years of straightening. My hair is thick and gets very dry though. My mum is coming to visit this yr and I can't get most of the products in NZ so I'm going to ask her to bring some. Which cantu product should I ask for?

MargotMoon · 23/07/2018 09:02

I bought that Cantu one, OP. My hair (fine) hates it as it is rather heavy and made it just look greasy. I have nearly a whole bottle left if you are in Leeds by any chance and want it?

Watching the rest of thread with interest for alternative suggestions, especially as going on holiday next week and don't want to have to blow dry twice a day!

amazonianwoman · 23/07/2018 09:23

Ah thanks Margotmoon but I'm not in Leeds and don't fancy greasy feeling hair!

OP posts:
MargotMoon · 23/07/2018 11:37

Well I wasn't assuming that you had shitty fine hair like me. If your hair is nice and thick or Afro it is supposed to be great Smile

amazonianwoman · 23/07/2018 11:44

Sorry hope I didn't sound ungrateful, my hair is sadly no longer thick either (bloody menopause) and not Afro.

I use cantu or aunt jackie’s on my son’s hair

seefeld · 24/07/2018 18:38

Bumble and Bumble do an air dry product. There’s a version for fine hair and one for thicker hair. I love it, makes my hair look finished when I haven’t made much effort.

Gardai · 24/07/2018 22:47

Trepadora curl therapy
I’m using Papaya Slip taming potion - you have to scrunch the crunch if you use too much but I like it.
It’s not too heavy or too light.
