Does this top suit me or not? (Pics)

I like the colour (it's a bright royal blue) but think it accentuates my flabby stomach and arms. I have no one to ask in RL - opinions?

Are you comfortable wearing it? Thats all that matters.

I really like it, wheres it from?

ExhaustWipe · 22/07/2018 10:26

Brazzle - I love the colour but it feels a bit - not tight exactly - but ?rigid. It's not a very drapey fabric.

It would be better if I lost a few pounds but I'm having a clearout and want to try & be ruthless. This was from Hobbs outlet.

I'm so poor at making decisions and all the advice says 'ask a friend' so I'm asking MN.

I think the shape is a bit boxy and the way the sleeve cuts off doesn't particularly flatter your arms.
I'd lean towards a no, but loving the colour can override small issues like that!

Mishappening · 22/07/2018 10:27

It's a colour that I have a deep dislike to. I don't think it suits anybody, and reminds me of school uniforms. Sorry!

TheBlueDot · 22/07/2018 10:31

I like the colour.

Does it make you feel good when you wear it? If not, don’t keep it. You’ll always fell a bit ‘off’ in it even if every response here is that it looks good.

Have you read Marie Kondo’s book? I found it changed my view of clothes. I only buy and keep things now if I feel happy in them. Otherwise it’s just making do and having things for the sake of having them - life is too short for that.

PineappleLava · 22/07/2018 10:32

I think it would be more flattering if it were a tiny bit longer.
If you’re being ruthless if you have any doubts it should go on the no pile!

ExhaustWipe · 22/07/2018 10:34

Thebluedot - it made me feel great when I tried it on it the shop (do they have magic mirrors) but now I'm at home it looks/ makes me feel totally different.

I'm torn because I do like the colour but in all honesty it doesn't 'feel' right.

Casmama · 22/07/2018 10:35

I think it looks ok but would look better if it was a bit looser round the tummy.
If your weight is very stable then I would say chuck it but if your weight goes up and down a bit (God knows mine does) then I would keep it.
I hope that doesn’t sound rude.

bridgetosomewhere · 22/07/2018 10:36

Nope not flattering
Sorry! For the reasons you mentioned x

P00ka · 22/07/2018 10:36

Can you take a photo of yourself in an ordinary top that you don't think accentuates your tummy so that we can compare?

I'm all for dressing in clothes that flatter but it's hard to judge when you post one top!

ExhaustWipe · 22/07/2018 10:37

My weight does fluctuate a bit and I'm heavier now than I've been for years due to comfort eating over the last 6 months following a bereavement.

I've just restarted c-5k (after almost getting to the end 6 months ago- now back to square 1...) so I'm hoping I will lose weight and my emotions will begin to return to normal....

OP posts:
TheBlueDot · 22/07/2018 10:39

If you don’t like it at home with real mirrors, return it.

Don’t keep hold of it thinking you’ll like it better once you’ve lost a bit of weight. Instead, promise yourself that you’ll go buy something that really flatters you when you’ve managed to lose the weight you want to.

Otherwise it’ll sit in your wardrobe making you feel shit that you haven’t lost the weight yet. And who knows if it would be flattering then anyway, you can’t tell in advance!

rightknockered · 22/07/2018 10:43

I don't like the neckline, or the way it sits on your shoulders. The buttons on the side emphasise a part of your body you want to hide. I think a shirt style, with a few buttons you can undo at the top, with a collar and buttons down the centre would look better. Maybe with a vertical stripe or a geometric pattern.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 22/07/2018 10:44

I think your arms are fine but I'm afraid to me it does cling in an unflattering way around the stomach.

Unfortunately I have this problem too Sad

I just don't wear anything that clings in any way anymore - lots of floaty tops. Not for everyone but it suits my style and I feel happy wearing them.

Casmama · 22/07/2018 10:48

If you have just started exercising then I would absolutely keep it. It’s a lovely colour and I find even losing 4-5 lbs can make a difference to how things hang. If you still aren’t sure when your weight is a bit lower then chuck.

ExhaustWipe · 22/07/2018 10:48

Pics of 'ordinary top' (just basic t shirt which is all I wear normally as I do feel good in it) ...was branching out with the one in the op.

Excuse creased appearance.

I can't see another photo of you in a normal top!

I don't think it's that flattering though. You're not that overweight but I have seen pictures of far more overweight women ROCKING their clothes so on that basis I'm going to say that it's not doing much for you.

ExhaustWipe · 22/07/2018 10:53

Sorry pooka, maybe the pics did not upload, they are showing for me though... (plain white tee)

OP posts:
ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 22/07/2018 10:59

Much prefer the white top op

worstmotherintheworld · 22/07/2018 11:09

It's a lovely colour but not particularly interesting on its own. It might look better under a jacket.

WonkyWay · 22/07/2018 11:13

Its not offensive in the slightest. It looks neat and tidy and it’s a nice colour. I don’t think it’s a bad fit but I don’t think it’s particularly flattering. I think there are tops that would look nicer on you.

UpstartCrow · 22/07/2018 11:13

I think it flatters your body but not your arms, maybe wear it with a shrug?

fieryginger · 22/07/2018 11:15

If it doesn't feel right, I bet it will stay in your wardrobe. I've done this myself.

NutElla5x · 22/07/2018 11:16

It's fine for a plain and boring blue top.Though if you paid more than a fiver for it I'd probably take it back, as it does look as though it's straining a wee bit.

Mouseville65 · 22/07/2018 11:31

I like it 👍🏻
