What's the best treatment you have used on dry and damaged hair??

Waaahhhh, I finally have the length I have always wanted but it's so dull and damaged that I feel like it needs to be chopped off again SadAngry

Is there any creams, masks, treatments or plain old conditioners that will help me?

I have already stopped straightening and blow drying and washing less often is there something else I should be doing too?

Brazilian keratin treatment its amazing like permanent conditioner (for 3 months)

Nyke · 19/07/2018 21:58

Coconut oil!! I found really made a massive difference to my dry hair. I smooth it over the ends and leave for about 30 mins then I wash it off with shampoo and condition as normal

SilverLiningSomewhere · 19/07/2018 22:20

Oo I have coconut oil already, never used it on my hair though! Will give it a go in the morning.. how often do u do it and how much do you use? Caked on or teeny bit?

Will have to google Brazilian keratin, I'm clueless Blush

You could mix a raw egg in with the coconut oil that can help too (try it without first to compare?)

thenightsky · 19/07/2018 22:25

I've just bought this stuff I've used it once and it seems to work so far. My hair is weird though. The left side of my head is nice, glossy and falls in waves, but the bit that hangs down near my ears on the right hand side is dead straight and like brittle straw.

sexnotgender · 19/07/2018 22:27

Olaplex

LockedOutOfMN · 19/07/2018 23:14

The Moroccan Oil conditioning mask in the turquoise tub. Pricey but worth it and you don't need to use a lot.

Racecardriver · 19/07/2018 23:23

Phillip Kingsley elasticizer is pricey hit worth every penny. Works miracles. Truly. A slightly cheaper option is rosehip oil. Apply liberally on damaged areas before washing, wait ten mins then wash as normal.

MrsRubyMonday · 19/07/2018 23:25

If you try coconut oil, i always need to put neat shampoo on without any water and rub that in well before trying to wash it out. Otherwise the water sort of sets the oil and my hair is greasy for days.

Other than that, aussi 3 minute miracle moisture conditioner (the upside down bottle, not the normal one. Wash hair, condition normally, add a little of the 3 minute to the ends). And then I put Argan oil on when towel dry and rub in, either leave to dry naturally or blow dry.

I grew my hair out from a pixie to waist length. I'm finding regular trims (more regular than I would like, but literally 2-3mm, I just do it myself) and absolutely minimal heat (I don't blow dry if it can be avoided, and only straighten on special occasions now). And I stopped colouring it. All helped a lot.

Just jumping on the thread to follow as I was thinking about posting similar! I've just gone for the usual my-hair-is-too-dry cut but I much prefer it longer.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 19/07/2018 23:33

was also going to say coconut oil.
Apply it to dry hair, comb through and leave for a couple or three hours before shampooing it off..

Chippyway · 19/07/2018 23:41

Coconut oil here as well!

I put my hair in a pony tail and drench the pony tail in coconut oil then tie in a bun. I either leave it on for a couple of hours or overnight depending on if I’ve got time

Then just wash your hair as normal

MelissaElderflower · 19/07/2018 23:52

Highly recommending an Aussie hair products.

slinkysaluki · 20/07/2018 04:56

Coconut oil but I leave it on overnight, amazing for my very thick, coarse dry hair. I just shampoo out and condition as usual but as I say my hairs very dry it just seems to absorb the oil

Boredboredboredboredbored · 20/07/2018 07:27

Do you colour your hair? If so then Olaplex. Although pricey it's brilliant stuff as it repairs hair.

MoltonSilver · 20/07/2018 14:02

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer - it worked miracles.

NameChangeUni · 20/07/2018 14:11

I use PK Elasticiser too, along with different hair masks from Kerastase. They really have improved my hair condition, which became quite dry and brittle because of the hot weather. I apply the PK during my evening shower, rinsing it out during my morning shower. I leave the hair mask on for about 30 minutes in the morning (I do everything else in the shower/bathroom and get some admin bits sorted in the meantime so I can get ready for work as soon as I rinse it off.)

I also use Kerastase Ciment Thermique, Redken Anti Snap treatment and Moroccan Oil whilst it’s damp GHD heat protectant if straightening as I’m trying to baby my hair as much as possible

Mercurial123 · 20/07/2018 14:24

Elasticiser does nothing for my hair. Coconut oil was so much better and cheaper. Camillia oil is also good.

ImNotReallyAWaitress · 20/07/2018 14:30

If you use Olaplex you’ll still need a moisture treatment - olaplex is a protein treatment that repairs damage and restores the hair bond. So dry hair will still feel dry

MerryDeath · 20/07/2018 15:38

olaplex is not a protein treatment

nancybelle · 20/07/2018 16:47

I would recommend a Brazilian blow dry/keratin treatment, it takes my coarse damaged and frizzy hair to looking and feeling healthy. I also use olaplex - it gets added to keratin treatment and I do olaplex 1, 2 and 3 at home too. Miracle workers!

SilverLiningSomewhere · 20/07/2018 19:09

Well I'm sat with coconut oil on my ponytail and will pick up some aussie stuff tomorrow, will look into everything else and work my way through starting with the cheapest as rather not spend more than I have to.

God I hope I don't have to chop it off Confused I'll cry!

Thank you for your advice, keep it coming as I'm clueless

Let us know what you think when it's all washed out.

I've just washed my coconut oil out after an hours soak. Once you start using it regularly it's hard to remember how bad your hair was and what a good treatment it is tbh. Because it sort of mends it for good almost!

I've used the PK Elasticiser (QVC do a good price) and had an Olaplex treatment and i can say hand on heart that (for my hair at least) good old virgin coconut oil was at least as good as the other 2 if not better.

SilverLiningSomewhere · 20/07/2018 21:45

So I left it on for 3 hours then dried with a t shirt (may have to google that as was a right palava) combed with a big fat comb and used a leave in conditioner. I can't tell what it's like as it's not dry yet but it smells lovely!
