Makeup to reduce redness in vascular rosacea

Grifone · 19/07/2018 21:27

Hi, I could really do with some Mumsnet help. I have vascular rosacea which is flaring frequently at the moment. My skin is also dry and sensitive. I used to use La Roche Posay but it didn't really agree with me. Clinique redness solutions range didn't help much and seemed to cake. At the moment I am using Avene moisturiser which is quite good and I also use Avene make up which is ok but can be a bit heavy and doesn't really cover the redness.

It is actually really starting to get me down. I feel hot and flushed all the time. I am also in my early fifties and have gone from looking mid 40s to late 50s! At some point I will consider laser treatment but that is not an option right now.

So if you have dry, sensitive skin and have vascular rosacea what skin care products do you use for cleansing, moisturising etc?

Also what colour corrector and/or make up do you use to reduce redness and give an even complexion? Hoping for miracles Grin .

Hi Grifone. I suffer from the same problem and have been unable to find anything that really helps. I tried Boots colour correcting primer but I can't get it to go on evenly - I've either got green patches on my face or it sinks in to my skin and it still looks red. I haven't tried anything more expensive as I don't want to waste money and find something doesn't work.

Placemarking so hopefully we can both find something that helps fingers crossed

Pippylou · 19/07/2018 21:39

I don't use makeup so can't help there but Soolantra/Invermectin has really, really helped, if you've not been prescribed it already (I had to be referred to a consultant dermatologist).

I have a similar condition on my cheeks. I cleanse with Emma Hardie balm followed by either REN evercalm milk or Dermalogica ultracalming cleanser. Then I use Sunday Riley Juno oil (this has completely changed my face and confidence and I can’t recommend highly enough). I finish with Rodial stem cell magic gel in the day or M&S formula absolute sleep cream at night.

My redness has decreased by 95%. Any that remains or appears I use the little Cover FX green concealer under Clinique Anti Blemish Solutions foundation.

Being completely consistent with my skincare, and whittling it down to those products which work for me has changed my face and my confidence.

Benefit Boi-ing Concealer was the best thing for my dd who had spider neavis...and we tried every make up counter in John lewis, got them to try to cover it up, we took photos to remember which products they used....Clinque and Estee Lauder were awful.

RosieCockle · 19/07/2018 21:56

I recently discovered Dr Jart Cicapair tiger grass colour correcting treatment and I love it. However, I'm not sure it would suit dry skin. BUT, they have got a serum and now there are "Camo drops" which is a lighter formula. Might be worth a look?

thethoughtfox · 19/07/2018 21:58

Dermacol and Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum coverage: both will cover everything.

Carver16x · 19/07/2018 22:01

Definitely recommend elemis sensitive range skin care and Estée Lauder double wear, get lots of samples see what works for you that’s what I did

User183737 · 19/07/2018 22:02

I dont wash my face or wear makeup, only way for me. Proactiv worked for years, their makeup is good but i dont wear any now.
You dont need a 'routine', skin is made to self clean and oil.

I’ve got rosacea and dryness. I use the avene anti redness range and have a prescription for Rozex cream.

Without make up my skin looks loads better and the redness has almost gone. :)

I have lily lolo mineral make up which I like although I don’t wear it that often.

JMAngel1 · 20/07/2018 11:28

Soolantra life changing.

MojoMoon · 20/07/2018 11:29

I second seeing your GP and asking for soolantra cream to try.

I use either Emma Hardie moringa balm or lush ultrabland in the evening.

Azaelic acid (from the ordinary) helps a bit too. There is some scientific research that suggests azaelic can help rosacea but it's not a magic bullet.
I use a little rosehip oil to moisturise before bed.

Maybe try a BB cream rather than a foundation? I use erborian bb and it is much more dewy and sits better on my skin than foundations do.

Grifone · 20/07/2018 18:16

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. Lots to look at and research. In the past I have paid lots of dosh for products that my skin has rejected after a few uses so I really want to try and get this right. Thanks for all the great tips - need to go out and get myself lots of samples.

I am not sure that I am a candidate for Soolantra as mine is vascular but I will certainly check it out.

The Dr Jart Cicapair looks interesting. A pot of green cream is oddly reassuring! The reviews online for the serum are great.

Squirrel - what products do you use from the Avene anti redness range? I currently use the skin recovery cream but maybe I need to try something else.

Which Erborian BB do you use Mojo and do you apply the azaelic acid at night or in the morning? I currently use either Avene tinted compact which is heavyish but blends well or MAC tinted cream which is lovely until I flush underneath it!

Please keep the recommendations coming.

I'm currently using a green concealer from Kiko under foundation, which is not perfect but definitely one of the better ones I've tried. Was about £6 for a small tube.

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 21/07/2018 13:01

I’ve got the rich skin recovery cream which I use at night. I’ve got the cream cleanser and the spf20 day moisturiser. And the little tube of extra concentrated stuff, can’t remember the name.

I’ve re bought all of it now (except the little tube as I don’t use it all the time)

I use the cream cleanser with a cotton pad/ washable cloth then rinse/ tone with water in the evening. I seem to get on better if I do as little as possible to my skin so only wash with warm water in the shower in the morning.

Foodylicious · 21/07/2018 13:04

Paula's Choice do some good cleansing and calming/reducing redness products.

I find I am much better with a tinted moisturiser, so a BB or CC cream

Boots no7 one is ok

I use this one, but they do a 1% bha too if you want to try super gentle.

I have gone from having really dry (needs moisturizing within seconds of getting out if the shower) and greasy combination skin, to having skin that just behaves!
I put moisturiser on just a couple of times a week now.

AudiQ2 · 21/07/2018 13:25

Not read full OP but Bourjois CC Cream is actually as good as foundation but covers redness like magic!! Amazing stuff and so easy to blend. £10 a tube but lasts easily 3 months

MojoMoon · 22/07/2018 16:17

Azaelic acid at night.

I use the erborian ginseng bb cream.

A good suncream! Biore watery essence.

Bunnies96 · 22/07/2018 19:14

Hi OP!
I use a green powder to calm the redness, any cheap one. I fine bare minerals conceal and foundation is good coverage, NYX also but I use powder, liquid feels heavy on me. Hope this helps!

I have (self diagnosed) rosacea and skin that is very sensitive in general. I now use Bioderma Sensibio AR moisturiser. It's the only moisturiser that has helped long term. I also use Clinique redness solutions cleanser

ReckItWralf · 22/07/2018 21:31

I use Pai sensitive/redness range and then IT Cosmetics CC cream.

itwasallveryfuckedup · 22/07/2018 23:33

Hi op, I'd actually recommend the Avene Xeracalm range. It's brilliant.
For concealer I use Jane Iredale. In Australia cosmetic surgery places actually sell it as it can be applied after procedures. It's the only thing that has ever actually concealed my under eye darkness too.
