Makeup to reduce redness in vascular rosacea

Hi, I could really do with some Mumsnet help. I have vascular rosacea which is flaring frequently at the moment. My skin is also dry and sensitive. I used to use La Roche Posay but it didn't really agree with me. Clinique redness solutions range didn't help much and seemed to cake. At the moment I am using Avene moisturiser which is quite good and I also use Avene make up which is ok but can be a bit heavy and doesn't really cover the redness.

It is actually really starting to get me down. I feel hot and flushed all the time. I am also in my early fifties and have gone from looking mid 40s to late 50s! At some point I will consider laser treatment but that is not an option right now.

So if you have dry, sensitive skin and have vascular rosacea what skin care products do you use for cleansing, moisturising etc?

Also what colour corrector and/or make up do you use to reduce redness and give an even complexion? Hoping for miracles Grin .

Another recommendation for The Ordinary!
I use their Azelaic acid and their Rosehip Seed oil every night and (as well as cutting out alcohol completely) have noticed a MASSIVE reduction in redness and total elimination of the papules.

I've gone from having to wear ELDW maximum cover foundation for years to being able to use a medium coverage Bourgeois one!

Both salicylic acid and niacinamide are anti inflammatory so they both should reduce redness a little bit.
This worked on redness for me. Vichy normaderm for salicylic acid and Olay sensitive moisturiser for niacinamide.
Laser should get rid of broken capillaries but this is pricey.

Thank you to everyone for the suggestions and advice. I have taken notes of all and googled lots of reviews, gotten a few samples and have bought a few new products as a result which I am introducing slowly to my skin care regime.

So far I have bought the Boing concealer. It is pretty good and with the added advantage my teen loves it so we can share and if I find something better she can have it. I have also bought the Dr. Jart's green concealer and while it is quite thick a little goes a long way. So far it seems to be an excellent product and certainly tones the redness down. While looking at reviews I came across another Dr. Jart product which is a redness reduction cream which seems promising as a night cream so that has been ordered and is currently enroute to me:

I have also bought Avene Antirougeurs Relief concentrate for chronic redness which is a gorgeous cream and works well with my Avene skin recovery cream.

I have also tried the Estee lauder Double Wear which gives great coverage as well but is quite heavy so I am going to put that on my stand by list. I am hoping the other products will reduce the redness and so reduce the need for total cover.

On my wishlist is The Ordinary's azelaic acid and Erborian CC cream but for now I am going to see how I get on with the new products I have bought as introducing too many new ingredients to my skin at the same time is a recipe for disaster.

Thanks again for all the advice. I will keep you posted on what works and what doesn't.

Soolantra worked brilliantly for me, my skin is no longer dry and flakey, the redness and spots all gone.

JMAngel1 · 27/07/2018 22:36

sweetheart, please just try soolantra - you won't need to worry about coverage.
This is a medical issue so please don't waste your money and face on numerous cosmetics - I was stuck in that cycle for 10 years plus before finding soolantra.

Pippylou · 29/07/2018 01:06

Yep, this^, beautifully put. I mentioned Soolantra up thread but didn't point out it's really a medical condition not cosmetic.

You can carry on with covering the issue, which probably makes it worse or actually treat the underlying cause.

I didn't realise how sore my face was until it was treated properly & I did all the azealic acid/antibiotics, etc.

It gets worse with age & can progress to pustules. I still have these when I eat too much rubbish but use the Soolantra then. So not all the time, once the initial inflammation is gone, so easy. And cheap!

Grifone · 29/07/2018 08:06

Thanks you. I really didn't consider Soolantra as I don't have pustules. in fact i have never has spots of any kind. It would be daft to ignore your advice however so I will look into it.
