very strong sunscreen for no tan

I know there's been a lot of threads about sunscreen recently and I've got some great info off them however I need to know if there's a sunscreen that will stop tanning at all.
I have Mediterranean olive skin that tans soo easily it's Ridiculous.
I wear biore watery essence on face and beck and Aldi 50+ onthe rest of me.
Even just from driving my hands are 3 shades (at least) darker than the rest of me. I have significantly tanned on my forehead and nose.
Can anyone recommend a sunscreen that will stop tanning at all, I love my golden sun kissed tan but the fact that I'm tanning means that my skin is still being damaged by the sun so my sunscreen obviously isn't doing it's job well enough.
Please help.

You need Sun block instead

chickedychicked · 10/07/2018 22:18

any brand you could recommend?

Sorry, but if you have Mediterranean skin that tans really easily, and you don't want to tan at all, how are you going to get enough sun exposure to ensure you get enough Vitamin D? Are you taking a supplement? I know you don't need tonnes of sun for vit D but if you tan easily then even just that will probably change your colour.

I don't think it's great to completely block your body from any sun exposure at all.

dementedpixie · 10/07/2018 22:23

It really does depend on your skin. If you tan even while wearing sunscreen then that's just the way your skin is.

chickedychicked · 10/07/2018 22:25

Here's a pic so you can see my tanned hands against my untanned legs. I've worn sunscreen 50 all year and only been out to drive really, im indoors mostly. my legs have mostly been covered.
I've always had hands and arms darker than my legs but this is how they are every summer.
yes I know I could've done a better job shaving my legs. sorry not sorry.

You need Sun block instead
There's no such thing.

All you can do is go for SPF50+ 5 star UVA and reapply every two hours.
The problem with hands is people wash them then don't reapply cream.

Gahbahboo · 10/07/2018 22:28

If you're wearing a good SPF 50, applying it properly a few times a day, and still tanning (which is the case with me too as I also have olive skin) you're doing the best you can. Apart from covering up and becoming a recluse. I don't necessarily think the tan is damaging your skin if you're properly protected, some skin tones just darken in the sun.

Synecdoche · 10/07/2018 22:31

Driving gloves? And cover up with clothes as well as sun cream - a big hat, natural fibres, long sleeves etc. I find this keeps me cooler than exposed skin in the sun.

chickedychicked · 10/07/2018 22:33

yes I take supplements but I'm using Retin A for my fine lines and any sun damage could undo all the work. And since tanning is a sign of sun damage then it means I'm not protected enough.
I'm darker than my entire family and my exdh (south Asian decent of medium complexion). People often think my DCs father is white due to me being so tanned and them having such a light complexion (sp) .
I'm just trying to show how easily I tan with the pic.

No sunscreen blocks out 100% of rays so if you are using a high factor with 5 star uva then there isn't much you can do except cover with clothing

Melfish · 10/07/2018 22:46

I know what you mean OP. I also use the Biore watery essence which purports to be a factor 50 and I only have to poke my nose out of the door to tan on my face. I have vitiligo so the contrast between my white patches and supertanned patches is quite annoying. I do try and cover my face in shade as much as possible (cap with massive brim and clip on veil thing- looks as attractive as it sounds) to limit the damage. Perhaps you could wear cotton riding or driving gloves- I think covering up is probably the only way to reduce tanning.

chickedychicked · 10/07/2018 23:16

True about the washing hands, didn't even think of that.
I barely get to go outdoors as it is but as long as I'm not getting skin damage then I don't really mind the actual tanning.
Has anyone tried eucerin spf50? I've heard it's good for oily skin?

If it helps I use banana boat spray SPF 100 on myself. I'm v v v pale, and burn in minutes. Rode my horse for about 2hrs in this heat and didn't burn which is unheard of! I use it every year now and never burn so it must be pretty decent

Labradoodliedoodoo · 10/07/2018 23:20

Ultra sun 50+

Toolonguntilthenextholiday · 11/07/2018 07:15

Heliocare and Heliocare factor 50 make up? I now leave an oil free factor 50 suncream in the car and put it on the backs of my hands immediately and of course put it on my face first thing.

Toolonguntilthenextholiday · 11/07/2018 07:18

I bought Eucerin sensitive skin factor 30 yesterday for my DD and so far so good. She is not keen on 50 😃

cameltoeflappyflapflap · 11/07/2018 09:11

P20 or factor 90. You used to be able to get a sun block on prescription from the GP but that's been years since I had that.

dementedpixie · 11/07/2018 09:34

Do you even get higher than factor 50 in the uk? I think you're just going to have to accept that there isn't much you can do to stop your skin from going brown as that is your skin type and only a small amount of uv is needed to cause the reaction

chickedychicked · 11/07/2018 09:43

Thank you all. I may give eucerin a go and the p60 sounds good.
I'm more worried about damage to skin rather than going brown. Admittedly my hand in the photo does look a lot darker than it actually is but my top half and bottom half look like they belong on different people.
guess I better get these legs out and even out the tan a bit.
As long as my skins not being damaged then I suppose I'll carry on with spf50+

I have seen ego sunscreen in John Lewis, has anyone tried that?
I was under the impression that note watery essence was 5 star UVA protection but it's only 4. I've never found anything better to put on face though, it's so light and glides on.

I use this on my face when out in direct sun. Probably expensive for all over body use, but it does prevent any sun tanning on my face.

Quick search on Amazon with search terms spf + 110 reveals quite a few face and body creams

BagelGoesWalking · 11/07/2018 11:03

Have a look on Amazon for Altruist sunscreen. I'm using the 50 on my body and haven't tanned at all. I've seen ppl say the 30 spf a better finish on the face - more matte.

My phone doesn't seem to want to add the photos I've got but it's easily found on Amazon.

chickedychicked · 11/07/2018 12:38

thank you bumbungo and bagel
