I need help! 🙈

I really need to build a new skin care routine. Since having my babies my skin has completely changed and products I used before just don’t seem to work for me anymore.

I took to Facebook and everyone raved about Temple Spa so I spent a fortune on it and it makes me break out 😭

Here’s what I have that i like and would like to incorporate into my routine;

Aldi daily exfoliating wash (use this nightly with a Muslin cloth)
Glycolic pads
Cold press rosehip oil

I would like to try a retinoid from the oridinary but don’t know where to place it in my routine? Also I’d like an spf to put on in the morning. And something for my eye area. Also, anything you love/ recommend.

I am 28 with normal skin, pigmentation in the cheeks, a few hormonal spots and some open pores on my t zone. Having a baby and a toddler has really taken it out on my face and I just want to look my age.

Any help would be massively appreciated. Thank you 🙏

Don't think I'd use the exfoliating wash and the glycolic pads. That might be too harsh.
Rosehip oil is for nights, probably not every night. Retinoids are also for nights. You start off slowly and build up to two or three times a week. Don't think I'd start this in high summer as it can make your skin photosensitive.
I asked about an all day SPF on here and googled the replies intensely. I'm going to get the Ultrasun for sensitive skin. I'll use it instead of a moisturiser.
La Roche Posay Effaclar should deal with open pores and spots.

Oh, and Nivea Q10 eye cream. And sunglasses. Always sunglasses. Unless it's actually raining.

For the nights I’m not using the retinoids and oil what should I use? Also is the retinoid after cleanse and before oil?

Retinoid after cleanse and I would suggest buffering it by putting on some cream first, then you can put the oil on afterwards - only retinoid at night - and you must use spf during the day as it makes your skin more sensitive.

Pressed ‘post’ too quickly !

  • if I were you with two little ones, I would stick with a gentle cleanser/wash, cream, & spf for day. I would exfoliate a couple times a week only. If you exfoliate too often it can damage your skin making it over sensitive.

All you really need is a good cleanser, a moisturizer (cerave is the drugstore one most highly praised by derms , with ceramides and hyaluronuc acid) and then a good mineral spf 30-50 during the day, everyday.
Then you use a retinoid at night, starting with twice a week and moving up. Although most OTC retinol is crap and doesn’t reach the dermis. You’re better off getting a good retinol line at a spa or plastic surgeons office, or better yet getting a tretinoin script from an actual dermatologist. Retinol has maybe 1%-10% strength of retinoic acid (prescription tretinoin, retain a, etc)

Skin oils are ok as long as they contain low oleic acid and high linoleic , but I would just do the retinoids with a light moisturizer on the nights they’re used - no oil on top.

Here's a link to the wisewomen's threads, which you might find helpful. They have info sheets, which I've never actually read because they won't open on my phone.

I’m a little bit older than you at 29, I have combination skin but can be prone to break outs on my cheeks. I swear by liz Earle cleanser, use morning and night. In the morning I will use the cleanser, toner, moisturiser and then I use Bobbi Brown intensive eye cream. At night liz Earle cleanser and toner, decleor serum and decleor night cream, which is more like a cream that you warm through your fingers and turns into an oil. I’ve used many different cleansers but always revert back to liz Earle, as it suits my sensitive skin. I exfoliate once a week with any scrub, at the moment it’s the liz Earle one as I got a free sample, I should probably exfoliate twice a week now though. I’ve heard some good things as well about clarines multi active range as that’s geared towards the late 20’s early 30’s, I’ve used the day cream and night cream but found it didn’t last very long for the cost and that the decleor night cream was better.

I found watching Sam In The City on YouTube really helpful to understand what my skin needed and what different products do. I watched loads of her stuff and built up a fairly simple regimen.

The main thing from all dermatologists seems to be to wear a factor 30+ sunscreen with a high UVA and B rating everyday, all year around, and use it instead of moisturiser.
