Anyone else the same shape but find nice clothes that look good?

Sorry no help at all but following.

Ohyesiam · 15/06/2018 21:46

Me too. I emphasise my good legs and wear very loose tops. I’ve been known to wear maternity tops.

RandomMess · 15/06/2018 21:50

I wear short/above the knee slight Aline or shift dresses, V necks especially good.

Justturned50 · 15/06/2018 21:59

I love shift dresses, but the last one I tried on made me look like a man in a dress.

RandomMess · 15/06/2018 22:01

I try on and reject a lot tbh...

Tatapie · 15/06/2018 22:20

V neck tops and a line skirts . Tops that skim but are not too loose / voluminous. Fitted v neck dresses in a print. Straight leg jeans, scoop neck wide strap vest and jersey blazer. Mid Heels when possible. Detail around hem, neckline and not in the middle. Dark top with light bottoms. I'm an apple too!

Justturned50 · 15/06/2018 22:49

Random me too. So disheartening !

I FIND THe rule of 2/3s works here. Empathise the top third by wearing a column style plain maxi dress with a cropped cardigan/ jumper/ denim jacket or straight cut tunic with skinny jeggings. Have nothing going on in the mid section- so no pleating under an empire line, no waist detail etc. Skim instead and have materials that have stretch in them for comfort.

Shops that cater for apples- White Company, Toast and Cos. I am sure there are plenty more!

Alternatively you could work a Lagenlook/ ARtsy vibe .....

Justturned50 · 16/06/2018 00:06

Thanks Iwankatramp the store suggestions are ideal. Are there any more?

3/4 length sleeves really help.

Whistles is often worth a punt.

Deathraystare · 16/06/2018 07:59

I am an apple shape. I love Cos stuff. Some Asos, Debenhams for basics and M&S, some Next and love Monsoon too. I am really getting into colour now and bolder prints (not paisley - I loathe it and it is everywhere).

Though apples are supposed to have good legs I look dreadful in skinny jeans - think sausages in too tight a casing!

Never ever even look at a shift dress - these are for ultra skinnies - think Audrey Hepburn!

I mostly wear v necks or scoop necks as I look awful with anything around my neck and hate feeling strangulated.

I think the idea is to have something floaty (not close fitting) on top and then emphasise your legs. However, I think this is very 'egg on legs'. I just try to find something that does not show off the rolls of flab!

MaudesMum · 16/06/2018 08:16

Another apple here, who also shops in Cos and the less voluminous end of Toast. Also Fat Face for straight leg jeans and Uniqlo/Arket for shirts. Cos shirt-dresses are particularly flattering for our shape, I've found. I'm currently looking for cropped trousers which go round my waist and which aren't too wide in the leg - if anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful!

This summer I’ve been wearing lots of culottes. I look for ones with an elastic waistband or fold over waistband. These are brilliant for apples.
My biggest issue is finding jeans. To fit my tummy I have to go up a size but then they’re falling off the rest of me. Also I’m finding that skinny jeans just don’t look right any more. Nydj jeans are ok but not very up to date with current styles.I’ve just ordered some tencel jeans from Wrap to see how they fit and a couple of pairs from H&M. So I’m hopeful I will find something suitable. I can recommend the M&S denim culotte jeans as flattering for apples. The only problem is I have to grapple with the fastenings over my tummy.

yellowsun · 16/06/2018 13:20

I got some culottes from Next with an elasticated waist band that are nice. I also wear their linen mix summer dresses with pockets.

yellowsun · 16/06/2018 13:21

Deathray There are definitely two kinds of shift dress- ones that have a waistband and ones that don’t. Step away from the ones with!

thunderbirdthree · 16/06/2018 13:28

You are my people

I have great legs; they're the only part of me I really love. I run and they're toned and brown at the moment. BUT. They're cancelled out by my stomach area and hips Sad I'm like a barrel. I carry ALL of my weight on my tummy.

I'm 5ft 6 and a size 12. I wear skinny jeans or short denim shorts in the summer with oversized / loose fitting tops. I avoid anything fitted for fear or looking like a fat rectangle. I love shirts and shirt dresses; I wear the collars open to draw attention upwards.

Yy to short or 3/4 length sleeves. I avoid having anything that finishes around my tummy / hips / waist. I always wear longline t shirts.

I get my jeans from Topshop and denim shorts from Next. Most of my tops are from Zara, Hush, H&M, French Connection, & Other Stories, Topshop and ASOS.

CountFosco · 16/06/2018 13:34

Buy your shorts in Next, I'm an hourglass and they all fell off me because the waist was so big (about 1" smaller than the hips in some cases). The worst pair were tight on my thighs (not large) but gapped on my waist Hmm. Not that I'm bitter or anything Grin.

Cheto · 16/06/2018 13:42

Apple shaped here and shift dresses just look like nighties on me Hmm I've just discovered a-line skirts, which look much better

WhiteFreesias · 16/06/2018 13:43

I recommend long sleeve tunics, something that ends just above the knee and slightly A-line looks best on me.

annandale · 16/06/2018 13:51

Next jeans have always fitted well for me.

Monsoon is for hourglasses Imo.

Spartacunt · 16/06/2018 13:52

Maudesmum Toast Alix trousers are cropped and pull on with a dropped crotch and elasticated waist - much nicer than I make them sound, beautiful quite heavy cotton and incredibly flattering for apples like me. They are in the sale at the moment.

I love Cos a-line dresses and Me&Em do fantastic ones in Autumn which are lovely fabrics - v and round neck - and some have sheer sleeves. Again, very good for apples and a good length on the knee or above which is great with tights.

WhiteFreesias · 16/06/2018 13:55

Like this in a polyester, viscose or similar. I love jersey fabrics for comfort but it does nothing for me.

Wrap dresses, balloon bottomed tops, and gathered waists do nothing for me. I like empire lines but have a large chest and it doesn't look good on me.

Help. Apple shaped and nothing looks good.
RandomMess · 16/06/2018 13:58

Just to add to the nightmare I' only 5' - literally trial and error and lots of tunic tops that I wear as dresses Grin

Wrap dresses are awful!!!

I have really tiny hips I just look heavily pregnant Sad

WildBill1 · 16/06/2018 13:58

A line skirts to knee, pocketless skirts and trousers, side zips, nothing tucked in, deep scoop necks/v necks/detail on top half.

Madamswearsalot · 16/06/2018 14:07

I agree with everyone who says avoid shift dresses with waist lines. Especially gathered waist lines.

I have found that a maxi dress with a higher waist line works on me. Tops that slim/float which Next do quite well.

Alot of it is trial and error. I find skirts the most difficult- tucking tops in won't really work but often the tops I prefer don't go either.

Those raving about Cos- how is there sizing? I'm a 16/18 in most places so is that in line with their L or better to avoid.
