Has anyone had Botox to fix a downturned mouth?

Did it work? Could you still feel your mouth to smile /talk properly etc? How king did it last? Did you also have fillers?

Many questions!

I'm trying to work out whether or not to go for this procedure, so any comments or recommendations would be so helpful!

Botox won't fix it to the best of my knowledge. This is filler type of job. And you need a very experienced practitioner. This will be about a subtle lift of the mouth corners and a bit of sculpting above to get that effect. I had it done by someone pretty awesome and the effect is fantastic. But no Botox. Just filler.

PugwallsSummer · 15/06/2018 18:52

I had a consultation and the Dr suggested Botox to relax the muscles that pull the corners down, and possibly a little filler in the area too (I'm also having Radiesse in nose-to mouth folds).

Was surprised at Botox being suggested, but looking online it does seem to be recommended by some practitioners...

Not sure whether to go for it or not - mainly worried about loss of feeling.

I had fillers for my marionette lines and downturned mouth yesterday. I am so happy with the result, honestly it's brilliant. It's a bit swollen today but not that you would notice. It's taken away the shadowing and now the corners aren't drooping so no grumpy face. I love it. If you have any questions fire away. Also I usually bruise so easily, even with Botox but I remembered to buy arnica cream yesterday so think that's done the trick.

PugwallsSummer · 15/06/2018 19:15

Thanks hairy! Did you have any Botox in the area at all or just fillers?

Botox in eye area and forehead only. The way she explained it to me was that as we get older the weight of the cheek area sags down on to lower face and with the reduction of collagen it just gets weighed down. By filling we are kind of scaffolding that area to support it. It really has made a massive difference to me. Even my husband was surprised this morning with how good it looked.

Vivasummer · 15/06/2018 20:28

I had Botox in my chin and a small amount under the corners of my mouth. It made it difficult to turn down my mouth into a big frown but it made no visual difference at all. Waste of money!

PugwallsSummer · 15/06/2018 20:50

Thanks viva, that's helpful to know.

I had fillers on my marionette lines and around my mouth. Looks much better now.

AWafferthinmint · 15/06/2018 21:23

Do fillers hurt? I think I'm going to need fillers for marionette lines but I'm scared that it will be really painful!

hairypaws · 15/06/2018 22:04

I had numbing cream then she used a cannula so no other needle. It does hurt a bit, a little stingy but it's very fast as there is anaesthetic in the filler so numbs quickly. You feel a bit of pushing etc but definitely bearable. I get into a right state though with adrenaline flying through me so I'm shaking and teeth chittering (I go like this at dentist too). I was counting backwards from 100 for each side and I only got to about 50 - so over quickly.

madcatladyforever · 15/06/2018 22:10

No way, my last botox practitioner who is also a doctor told me if you have botox below the eyes you will look like you've had a stroke, the only thing that will correct that problem is a lower face lift and I'm having one next year as I'm almost 60 and my mouth makes me look permanently miserable.
Can't wait.

AWafferthinmint · 16/06/2018 00:04

Thanks @hairypaws, that's reassuring-I may have to take the plunge Smile

BeachyUmbrella · 16/06/2018 00:11

How do you choose a practitioner? Are there on line reviews?

Pleasebeafleabite · 16/06/2018 07:04

I have botox around my mouth mainly to stop the marionette lines i have starting plus I have an odd family chin thing that it stops (hard to explain)

I’ve just looked at my face and it defo stops my mouth downturning as my muscles just won’t do it

It felt odd at first though and I had a tendency to dribble tea (I’m not selling it here am I) when I drank a cup but adjusted to that in a couple of weeks

CisMyArse · 16/06/2018 07:11

I am starting to get lines around my lips which make me look like a smoker (Ive never smoked) - are these marionette lines? I'd love someone to sort those. Does anyone mind telling us what kind of money are we talking?

PugwallsSummer · 16/06/2018 09:31

pleasebe thanks! That's really useful to know!

Lots of medical aesthetics websites suggest Botox with filler for a downturned mouth, so I don't think my doctor's gone rogue! Slightly worried about the stroke comment though Shock I'm assuming this is if it goes wrong...?

Pleasebeafleabite · 16/06/2018 12:05

I can still smile it definitely doesn’t look like a stroke!! I basically can’t purse my lips as easily as before

cis I pay £250 for forehead crows feet and mouth area. That’s Yorkshire

hairypaws · 16/06/2018 16:36

@CisMyArse I paid £150 for the Botox and £275 for the fillers. Lanarkshire here.

hildabaker · 16/06/2018 18:19

Wow I think i've been done! Mind you I do go to a clinic in central London but I pay £300 for 3 areas of Botox and nearly 2K for fillers in cheeks, on chin and around mouth. Botox twice a year, filler (not sure yet if I will have it done again) maybe every 12-18 months.

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 16/06/2018 18:36

OP, would you consider a facial exerciser? I’ve recently bought a NuFace which required 5 mins each day. Dead easy. It was £150 so, not cheap but I have that “cheeks sagging due to lack of collagen” thing going on. Lovely. I’d say, I like doing it, it’s not much of a commitment and I think my face looks generally less tired. I’m 56. I can’t do Botox or fillers as have had anaphylactic reactions to medication in the past.

I will do it later, before bed. If I don’t look too ravaged, makeup free, I’ll post a pic after I’ve done it.

PugwallsSummer · 16/06/2018 20:18

pleasebe does the sensation of it bother you? I'm a bit worried about this...

auntyjackie thanks for the suggestion - that isn't something I had considered (or even heard of!). A picture would be great if you get a chance!

Mmm I guess it how much faith you have in the doc aches all her has seen you gave:

I see a fab nurse in Bolton: have the full face for £225, full head, eye, chin and upper lip.

Botox works excellent in lower face, until I met my nurse I as inclined to agree but sh is works wonders with Botox in lowervface!

Pleasebeafleabite · 16/06/2018 21:13

It was a bit numb at first, only a bit though. Now I don't notice. The dermatologist did warn me that I would get used to it and I did

Bairnsmum05 · 16/06/2018 22:14

Hairy where in Lanarkshire do you go for fillers? I’m tempted!
