Any way to make sure I stay sleeping on my back to avoid wrinkles?

I'm getting these weird lines on my face and a clinician I saw said it was from sleeping with my face pressed up on the pillow. It's clearly better to sleep on your back but can you make sure you stay sleeping on your back after you drift off in that position?

I was trying to think what might help this and it struck my that a handmaid's bonnet might work if the "wings" were sufficiently rigid?! You can order these on ebay!!! I'm single so I could get away with it for now although it might freak out any potential boyfriends staying the night! Anything else I could do?!

Are you joking? You must be surely? A handmaids bonnet?!

counterpoint · 06/06/2018 10:07

Use a silk pillowcase. They don't wrinkle your face ( or make your hair split).

counterpoint · 06/06/2018 10:08

And preferably a feather pillow.

CiderwithBuda · 06/06/2018 10:10

A friend has trained herself to do it somehow.

Moonkissedlegs · 06/06/2018 10:14

What the actual fuck?!

Moonkissedlegs · 06/06/2018 10:16

If you are being serious then apparently silk pillow cases are good for this. Don't buy a fucking handmaid's bonnet to sleep in.

triangularAngela · 06/06/2018 10:18

😆
Night clothes/ naked and then that bonnet!
I’d try one of those dog cones while you’re at it!
Seriously, you deserve a good nights sleep 💤

goose1964 · 06/06/2018 10:19

I sleep on my back, I have a CPAP machine and have to sleep on my back or the mask slips. It's just a bit extreme for most people. I now can't sleep any other way

Sitranced · 06/06/2018 10:24

A handmaid's bonnet? schexy!

Use a silk pillow

thenightsky · 06/06/2018 10:27

I know what you mean OP. I try to sleep on my back, but then I wake myself up snoring!

SandlakeRd · 06/06/2018 10:30

If you are very serious about this you can get positioning systems for disabled people that are essentially as series of pillows that keep you in one position. You could try that! They are about £1000 thoughShockSmile

I use a silk pillow which has made a big difference to my hairstyle lasting between washes and definitely to the wrinkles I used to have on waking up.

I also went to a local foam cutters and got them to cut me a wedge shaped piece of foam, about a quarter of the size of a pillow, which I put under the top part of my head when I sleep on my side (more comfy sleeping on my side). It keeps my face sort of floating in mid air and because it's foam, it's just as comfortable and feels just the same as sleeping directly on the pillow as usual.

I sleep on my front, I have a MASSIVE bedcrease down the right side of my forehead and its getting deeper! I just bung some Olay on it in the morning and cover it with my hair. Grin

Ididnthearanything · 06/06/2018 10:37

I hardly think sleeping on your back will halt or slow down the ageing process to any great degree. Surely a night's sleep is as important as a healthy diet, not smoking, staying out of the sun, little alcohol etc. Try the silk pillow case idea. But above all get a good night's sleep!

pinacolada1982 · 06/06/2018 10:48

Can't decide if I'm serious about the bonnet or not! It's not really wrinkles that I'm trying to prevent though, I don't mind those, it's deep deep creases that are making me look awful!

I've read silk pillows aren't supposed to work but I might look into them again given so many on here think they do. The foam wedge thing also sounds like a possible solution!

I do tend to sleep well luckily. And I thought I was ageing quite well until suddenly I really really wasn't. Depressing but I suppose it's just part of life!

I use a couple of 'frownies'. Apply them on the area in question before going to sleep, and they prevent a crease appearing.

pinacolada1982 · 06/06/2018 11:41

Can you put frownies on your cheeks MissSchofield?

The thought of a woman purchasing a handmaid's bonnet in order to try and stop wrinkles is so ironically offensive I can't even!

Moonkissedlegs · 06/06/2018 11:50

Actually I think it should be offensively ironic!

MissSchofield · 06/06/2018 11:55

yes...I use two on my upper cheek, near my outer eye.

KatherinaMinola · 06/06/2018 11:56

I'm pretty sure this is bad for your heart or something - there was some science news about it recently. So it might prevent wrinkles by sending you to an early grave!

Bombardier25966 · 06/06/2018 17:09

Back sleeper here due to chronic back pain. Just do something to damage the nerves in your shoulders, every time you move you'll get a shock through your body that will jolt you back to your back.

Which is about as ridiculous an idea as dressing as a handmaid to maintain your vanity.

EnidButton · 06/06/2018 20:05

Lack of sleep will make you look worse.

Just get a silk pillowcase and drink a bit more water. You need proper sleep!

N0tLinked1n · 06/06/2018 20:07

I try to fall asleep on my back but I cannot. I always roll on to my front. I've tried so hard to train myself.

Pfftlife · 06/06/2018 20:12

I know what you mean, I'm noticing the same. I always sleep on the same side with my face squashed up into the pillow and have wondered what I should do. Maybe try having lots of pillows so your nearly sleeping upright, you can't roll over then
