Can I wear leopard to Ascot?

Or will I look too tacky?! Have bought a fabulous vintage style wiggle dress in leopard print and am thinking of wearing it to Ascot as it fulfils all the shape/style rules. Would wear with a black hat, bag and heels. What do you think?

Sorry op, I can feel how much you love that dress, but I think it will look out of place at ascot. To me it looks a bit tacky barmaid.

eBay for coast dresses perhaps? They come up often and generally would suit ascot?

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 04/06/2018 07:27

I've been for the last 4 years and have never seen anyone in leopard-print at Ascot. Not even accessories.

It seems to be lots of block, bold, jewel colours or pastels rather than leopard-print.

baublegirl454 · 04/06/2018 19:06

I've returned it. I still love it but the idea that so many people would be judging me negatively was too much. I wear loads of leopard, but generally boots/bag/coat (separately!) not actual outfit. Have gone for boring Coast instead, will join the sheep instead of the big cats 😉

Oh I’m so disappointed (but I also didn’t like that particular frock), floaty silky leopard could have worked.

baublegirl454 · 05/06/2018 23:08

Ah bless you, I'm sad too but floaty really doesn't suit me. I'm too short and curvy! I need to embrace what's there, covering it is not flattering on me

I think you have made the right choice OP.

What about some leopard heels or a clutch?

Let’s see the dress you got? Wink

Ifonlyiweretaller · 06/06/2018 13:16

Coincidentally I was considering wearing a leopard print dress i already own to Ascot www.bombshellhq.com/collections/moss-crepe-dresses/products/new-leopard-bombshell-3-4-sleeve-dress

However, although I feel good in it, as we're in the Royal Enclosure the general consensus amongst friends was that it's a no-no.

halfwitpicker · 06/06/2018 13:26

Leopard can work but I think that dress is a bit Liz McDonald tbh.

Leopard print looks fab with emerald green/cerise /royal blue.

halfwitpicker · 06/06/2018 13:26

Love that one, if only

Ta77Blonde · 06/06/2018 13:27

As long as you wear it tastefully. Its a real dodgy one, all I think of when its wrong is Bet Lynch! Sorry!

MrsMaisel · 06/06/2018 14:08

I have worn leopard to the Royal Enclosure. But it was a very chic little jacket, worn with a black Vivienne Westwood skirt with a bustle. And a lace top under the jacket.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 06/06/2018 16:29

@MrsMaisel That outfit sounds amazing! I've always wanted something from Vivienne Westwood but am too curvy to fit in most of her designs (well the ones I like anyway!)

BubblesBuddy · 06/06/2018 16:49

The main reason women don’t wear leopard print to Royal Ascot is because it’s a winter fabric! Royal Ascot is supposed to be the height of summer fashion!

I agree that Coast is boring. You will probably see your dress several times!

My youngest DD is wearing a fitted cobalt blue dress with an orange pill box hat. We are Royal Enclosure.

Queen Ann - no-one will care very much! It’s all beer and nowhere to sit other than on the grass!

There were some wonderful dresses at the recent wedding. Just find a colour and style and copy it. Don’t wear a fascinator. You cannot go wrong with mono colour.

BubblesBuddy · 06/06/2018 16:51

By the way, you can wear a jump suit. I saw a lady in a purple Gucci one and it was amazing!!! That’s different!

MrsMaisel · 06/06/2018 16:59

Some years it’s hot but others it’s pretty cold! Hard to dress for the weather when you’re planning ahead.

TSSDNCOP · 06/06/2018 17:35

I think you could wear it, I’d team it with orange accessories. There was a woman pictured last year in that combo and I filed it in my head for the future.

Bugjune · 06/06/2018 18:27

'Wiggle dress' is a term I've only ever heard on MN, thankfully. It makes me queasy.

BubblesBuddy · 06/06/2018 18:47

It’s a slightly odd description in that it is rather inviting men to look at you. A bit like Marilyn Monroe in some like it hot. Body Con is the normal description. (Or just too tight!)
