I’m going to blow your mind - teeth stains

So I’ve been really ill the last few days. Looked in the mirror this morning and I look shockingly bad. I’m due a trip to the hygienist in a months time but my teeth were looking a little stained in places( even though I stick to herbal tea nowadays) and I was all ugh about it.

I was pondering whether I should dig out my Colgate whitening strips when i suddenly thought of my magic eraser that gets rid of every stain in the house. I decided to google using it on your teeth and people actually do it so I thought I’d give it a go. I tore off a tiny bit, wet it and clamped inbetween some tweezers and incredibly lightly just brushed it over the stained areas. I swear the stains just came right off. How mad is that!! I’m not saying anyone should go mad with it and rub away their enamel but honestly it’s worked better in three servings than anyone of the toothpastes that threaten to remove stains (and don’t).

ALERT - NOTHING TO DO WITH TEETH - BUT VAGUELY RELATED!

Grin

I can also 'blow your mind' well it blew mine to be honest but it's got bugger all to do with teeth.

Rather Tesco Baby Wipes and a manky looking UPVC front door.

I painted the brickwork in my porchway a couple of weeks back and it made my already tatty looking front door look even tattier. Bottle green UPVC with a 'wood' type grain to it - - faded, scruffy and horrible - I was so tempted to try and paint it, and started googling what type of primer paint etc. I would need.

I was using a packet of cheap Tesco baby wipes to clean up any paint drips onto tiled porch floor and for some reason I started rubbing the front door with one. The shite that came off that first wipe was astounding, so I kept going, probably - used about 25 wipes to clean the entire door.

It looked better immediately, but the miracle bit came when it had 'dried' and the door looked (and still does) las if it's been restored / repainted. All the bits I thought were faded weren't - they were just mucky and it's honestly come up like new.

Still can't get over it. A 60p packet of baby wipes.

I use a tiny piece of nail buffer, you know the super fine one that polishes.

I cut it into tiny strips.

I cook and eat more abrasive substances and it works for an in between the hygienist visit when I look in the mirror and think uh oh.

stayathomegardener · 30/05/2018 13:04

@Fontella I think that is a warning not to use those wipes on actual babies!

Emmasmum2013 · 30/05/2018 13:12

I am definitely going to try this!!!
I used my last magic eraser the other week too :( will have to get some more.

They're also fantastic for getting crayon off laminate flooring. Literally just wipes off no hassle.

Fontella

This is just what I need! My UPVC everything looks like it had gone through a very filthy scratchy tornado

SleepFreeZone · 30/05/2018 13:12

Ooooh I’m liking the UPVC tip. Nothing gets my white door clean. Even the magic sponge sent from heaven 😬

I do feel like my original post needs a massive warning of ‘please don’t start rubbing away your teeth like a crazy person’. I see my hygienist regularly and of course that’s the correct thing to do. In between visits I just sometimes get a little staining and a light sweep with the magic sponge sorted it out this morning. So I was shocked! I was very careful to use a tiny bit and not touch my gums.

Luckily I don't have any babies, but it does make you wonder what the hell is in those things.

Shock

I wish I'd taken before and after pictures because the transformation is incredible. And I have tried to clean the door before with ordinary detergent and water and it's had no effect whatsoever.

I buy them because they are dirt cheap (6 packets or something for under three quid) for wiping my desk/computer keyboard, just general 'wiping' things. Always keep a packet in the car for hand wiping etc.

I'm going to read the ingredients.

Once I had wandered out of the bathroom to check something while brushing my teeth and my flat mate went in the bathroom, so I was stuck with a mouthful of toothpaste for a few minutes and gosh my teeth were so white afterwards.

flumpybear · 30/05/2018 13:17

WD 40 is meant to be good at cleaning all sorts - not sure I'd try my teeth tho WinkHmm

Fontella · 30/05/2018 13:17

To anyone who is going to try the Baby Wipes on the front door tip - I should add you do need to give it a bit of elbow grease, not just a quick wipe over.

I did it in small sections and kept using new wipes as so much shite comes off, if you don't keep changing them you are basically just putting all the muck back on.

Having said that, it wasn't hard work, just a firm rubbing - especially on the worst affected areas.

mimibunz · 30/05/2018 13:29

Darwin awards candidate.

SM2132 · 30/05/2018 13:29

I use baby wipes for cleaning nearly everything, I just get a packet and an empty carrier bag to put the mucky ones in and go round the house wiping everything that looks grubby, skirting boards, doors, walls, furniture, hand rails, table tops etc. They are brilliant! Such an easy, 'lazy' way to clean!

ToadOfSadness · 30/05/2018 13:52

Eucryl tooth powder is for removing stains too. Also little polishing heads on battery operated polishers, assume they are still available to buy, they often come with a set of different coloured pastes for stain removal. They are abrasive and you need to be sensible with them.

Will try the magic sponge though as I have tried all the others and am not giving up tea.

PlumsGalore · 30/05/2018 14:02

I have a small stain on my front tooth that the dentist rubs off, I use magic sponge myself at home to rub off the stain if it comes back mid appointments.

I told the dentist and he had no problem with it, he said it is a very gentle abrasive.

I honestly don't think for occasion use this is an issue.

Branleuse · 30/05/2018 14:04

im sure its less abrasive than the rotating file thing my dentist uses on my teeth sometimes

VanillaSugar · 30/05/2018 14:07

I have an advert for Sensodyne whitening tooth paste on my screen Confused

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/05/2018 14:07

Sounds good! Just have to work out how to use it on my feisty dog’s teeth!

PetulantPolecat · 30/05/2018 14:19

Was googling and found this useful tip too

“Theresa, a Mississippi hygienist, has a patient who swishes every day with half of a shot glass of whiskey and has not had a cavity in 25 years”

rightknockered · 30/05/2018 14:46

I'm so tempted...

cloudtree · 30/05/2018 15:54

Well I've just done it on a tiny stain I have on one of my back teeth that the dentist said not to worry about. Its come off within about 10 seconds of rubbing with the magic eraser..

SallyVating · 30/05/2018 19:12

Just done my teeth - miraculous.. got a bit brave and did my face.. not so much - don't do it kids!

OutsideContextProblem · 30/05/2018 19:18

Nobody said “use baby wipes to clean UPVC then flush them down the loo” Eliza. But in case anyone does need telling and doesn’t click on your links.

DON’T FLUSH BABY WIPES DOWN THE LOO!

SleepFreeZone · 30/05/2018 20:39

Pmsl at using it on your face 😂

Well I’m glad I’ve rid a few people of a few stains today. My life purpose is now complete m.

God yeah do you think it would work on liver/age face spots?
