I haven’t washed my hair in two weeks.

And it’s fine! Shock

I wouldn’t believe me either if I saw this post 6 months ago. And no I’m not selling anything either. Grin

All my life I’ve had to wash my hair daily. It was greasy by the end of every day and my scalp would drive me insane with itchiness. Around 4ish months ago I noticed it wasn’t as greasy every day and I started leaving it an extra day and then an extra day until I was managing a week without washing and no itchiness. None at all. I last washed it on the 12th of May and today it started feeling greasy the way it used to on day two when I was washing daily. I am in shock. I never ever thought I could get a fortnight out of my hair. I used to think my aunt was lying when she said she only washed hers once a week. The only change I can think of causing it is achange of shampoo. I now use Cien tea tree shampoo from Lidl. It’s very cheap and now a bottle is lasting forever Grin however I can’t remember when I started using it and if it coincides with new hair behaviour. I’m 31. Could this be an age/hormonal thing? My diet hasn’t changed.

Washed it last night. Grin will do again when it isn’t next greasy. Whether that is 2 days or two weeks.

My poor dm has to wash her hair every day or it sticks to her head with grease Confused. I'm going to get her that Cien shampoo op Smile

RussianBluee · 27/05/2018 12:26

For my hair Cien lidl is like a washing deterginet so drying. Its cheap though so try it your hair might like it.

Ollivander84 · 27/05/2018 13:21

Mine definitely doesn't smell. I do wash it with conditioner though, I just never use shampoo

Clionba · 27/05/2018 14:56

Interesting, Z. Why do you think the greasiness has stopped, is it the shampoo or is the scalp less stimulated? Great that there's no itchiness or smell. I can only go 2 days at the moment, but may try when I'm off work. Keep us posted!!

Ollivander84

How does that work? I have very dry ends after a couple of days, but my roots would get greasy. They’d need shampoo surely? Happy to learn otherwise 👍

I had similar needs-washing-every-day hair - all oily and horrible at the end of each day but I've gone down to every few days now, which feels like a minor miracle. Mine's definitely down to being peri-menopausal - my hair is thicker, going grey and definitely more dry - it's almost frizzy at the ends which is so different to most of my life where it's been thin and greasy..¬ I'm 49 though so it's not unexpected - you're so much younger - is it worth getting a blood test done to double check whether you're going through early menopause?

Since I had a jolly Mirena put in my hair is greasy after 24hrs Angry
I want it out
I just haven't the time to get to docs to get it out, I want my hair back to normal, I hate that it gets greasy after 24 hours!
I have hair envy now! Grin

Ollivander84 · 27/05/2018 15:32

Happen - I have v curly hair so follow the curly girl method
Basically conditioner has cleaning agents but v gentle ones, so I scrub with it, and make sure to only use styling products that are water soluble. Occasionally I use a cleansing conditioner like as I am co wash

I’ve no idea clionba. I suspect hormones may be playing a part. I’m not 100% sure when I noticed the difference and when I started using the shampoo. I really had no notion of going longer between washes but when I noticed it just wasn’t greasy and still swishy I thought there was no point washing it until it looked/felt like it needed it. I started using the tea tree shampoo because for a few years my scalp has been itchy pretty much all the time. I would get spots on my scalp and they would bleed and scab. (Really not painting a pretty picture of myself here Grin) someone somewhere recommended tea tree so I tried this shampoo. It seems to have done the job. All the itching and scabbing is gone.

Ollivander84 thank you for the info. You’re hair is fabulous!

lonelyplanetmum · 28/05/2018 00:05

There's a book and website about learning to live without shampoo. If you google 'No poo' it explains the theory, basically your hair learns to produce less grease and you can clean it but less often with cider vinegar and bicarb.

I only know this because eldest DD and DH tried it with some success one summer!

Wondermoomin · 28/05/2018 12:21

Hmm I'm sceptical lonelyplanet. "Some success" + "one summer" implies that they were not persuaded to stick with it long term and actually preferred to return to normal hair washing with shampoo....

Ollivander84 · 28/05/2018 12:26

Wonder - it's been over a year for me and I wouldn't go back to shampoo. I have before and after pics and the difference is astounding
