I haven’t washed my hair in two weeks.

And it’s fine! Shock

I wouldn’t believe me either if I saw this post 6 months ago. And no I’m not selling anything either. Grin

All my life I’ve had to wash my hair daily. It was greasy by the end of every day and my scalp would drive me insane with itchiness. Around 4ish months ago I noticed it wasn’t as greasy every day and I started leaving it an extra day and then an extra day until I was managing a week without washing and no itchiness. None at all. I last washed it on the 12th of May and today it started feeling greasy the way it used to on day two when I was washing daily. I am in shock. I never ever thought I could get a fortnight out of my hair. I used to think my aunt was lying when she said she only washed hers once a week. The only change I can think of causing it is achange of shampoo. I now use Cien tea tree shampoo from Lidl. It’s very cheap and now a bottle is lasting forever Grin however I can’t remember when I started using it and if it coincides with new hair behaviour. I’m 31. Could this be an age/hormonal thing? My diet hasn’t changed.

I have found that in the last 6 months I can go 3 days without having to wash my hair and I had been an every-day-without-fail person because of my baby fine hair. For me it is hormones and menopause stuff that is drying it all out. Doesn’t smell and is still swishy. Amazing, long may it last.

rightknockered · 26/05/2018 13:06

I wash my hair every fortnight in winter, but in the summer I wash once a week, and co-wash every two days. I find co-washing is enough, if i shampoo too often my hair gets very dry and frizzy - it's wavy with some ringlet type curls.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 26/05/2018 13:09

I suspect it could be hormonal. My periods have been getting shorter, lighter and much less painful over the last yearish and I have wondered if this is the start of menopause. With the new hair I’m even more convinced.

I could go a week or 10 days without but i love love love that fresh shampoo scent it smells amazing and no dry shampoo ever came close. I remember 2 of my exes used to inhale my hair and comment " your hair smells incredible/so n9ce/amazing).

I really dont like the greasy scalp smell and with the hot humid weather here its not for me.....

I do put in hair oils and masks once or twice a week though.

Menopause at 32? Shock

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 26/05/2018 13:30

I dont know. I just know things are changing. My periods are lasting 1.5-2 days now and I don’t have any cramps anymore.

My husband used to do this for months on Army exercise. He always had fab hair. I said to my friend the other day (who is always at the doctors with her children who have awful eczema) I only bath my children once a week because of their eczema, more if they get particularly grubby and it cleared it up almost completely. She was horrified and now I suspect she thinks my kids are rather revolting Sad

3dogsandcounting · 26/05/2018 14:08

Surely it will smell. I couldn’t stand the feeling. I wash my hair daily as it’s greasy and just feel yuk if I leave it.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 26/05/2018 14:24

That’s the thing 3dogs it doesn’t smell or feel horrible. Honestly, I hate the feeling of my hair being greasy. That’s why it was being washed daily but it isn’t actually feeling greasy. (It is today so I’m going to wash it this evening) if it was feeling yuck I would definitely wash it before now.

3dogsandcounting · 26/05/2018 14:41

Have you asked anyone else to tell you if it smells? Don’t want to sound awful but sweat and dirt smell. You may not be able to smell it yourself. You need an honest friend with a good sense of smell.

ItsalmostSummer · 26/05/2018 14:48

I have discovered the same. I bought some basic tea tree shampoo as I thought it smelled nice. Then ran out of conditioner one day, so thought too bad I’ll just use this shampoo I have. Got the biggest surprise of my life. I left it and left it and my hair didn’t go greasy but also I found my hair has gone so soft. I have looked for ages for something to help my 40+ years hair to stop it being so dry and brittle. This is a new revelation for me too. I only discovered this about four weeks ago. AND the shampoo is lasting forever here too, as you don’t need much. Honestly when I read your post I realized it’s the tea tree for sure.

ItsalmostSummer · 26/05/2018 14:57

And I’ll add perimenopausal here that I used to go 4-5 days not washing my hair because of life stage but my hair has not been this soft in a very long time. For me it’s the tea tree and no conditioner. I’ve realized using both shampoo and conditioner is a bit of a fake. I’ve always used it because I was taught that growing up but I don’t think we have to.
On another note, the curly girl method uses conditioner only for cleaning and leaving in to create curls for curly-haired people, but it’s a certain type of conditioner (no extra chemicals).
Maybe we are all being conned by advertisers and manufacturers?

Wondermoomin · 26/05/2018 15:17

Those who don't wash their hair very often, do you not exercise? I mean hard, sweaty exercise? Or if you do, how do you deal with it? I exercise 6 x a week, between moderately to very very sweaty level of effort. I wash my hair every other day, on non-hair wash days I dry it off with the hair dryer and add some dry shampoo once it's dry. I can sometimes get an extra day doing this but can't imagine getting close to even a week, never mind a fortnight.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 26/05/2018 15:36

I don’t exercise. I have a physical job but not heart rate raising levels of physical.

I’ve asked my son to smell and he says it doesn’t smell of shampoo or anything nice but doesn’t smell bad. Just smells like hair. He washes his glossy locks daily so it’s not like he is immune to smelling greasy hair because his really isn’t.

I only ever wash mine once a week. Mine is really thick and length down to my hips hairdressers often say they've never seen someone with so much hair. If I wash it more often it just gets greasier quicker! Soft water area I'm in Scotland

Stansmith01 · 26/05/2018 16:01

That’s great, OP! If possible, would you mind taking a pic of the ingredients list for the cien shampoo? (Can’t find it online and I don’t have a Lidl near me)

ItsalmostSummer · 26/05/2018 16:01

Wonder at the moment no, but when I do, I wash it with a little tea tree, for me it’s more that my hair has changed and is much softer and I don’t need conditioner. Yes if I go for a run I wash my hair with teatree. I dont like dry shampoos. My hair is in a much better condition overall and if I don’t exercise I don’t have to wash it as often as I used to.

Ollivander84 · 26/05/2018 16:02

I wash mine about twice a week but never use shampoo, doesn't ever get greasy

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 26/05/2018 16:05

MildlyFedUp · 27/05/2018 10:09

I bet it does smell, at least to people with a good sense of smell like me. I was once stuck behind a woman at the theatre who had really smelly hair, even though it looked clean Envy

My DS stopped shampooing his hair as an experiment and was convinced it didn't smell bad. It definitely did.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 27/05/2018 12:10

You could be right. Perhaps I’m stinking places out up and down the county. Grin

Bluntness100 · 27/05/2018 12:14

I would also assume it smells, I'm sorry. I think you're son has politely confirmed it. He's told you it doesn't smell of anything nice. Which means it doesn't smell nice.

Is there a reason you're not washing your hair?

I'm envious on the periods though. Mine are friggen getting heavier.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 27/05/2018 12:16

The only reason was because it just wasn’t getting greasy and itchy. So I just didn’t wash it.

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 27/05/2018 12:19

I'd probably give it a wash to be honest,,,😁
