I'm going to act my age and buy some proper grown up cosmetics tomorrow. I like the idea of benefit

any recommendations to share?

Another vote for Dandelion!

ArcticRoll · 18/05/2007 18:22

Lemon Aid.

ggglimpopo · 18/05/2007 18:26

I like the lip/cheek tint and its good for keeping in the handbag.

Have stopped using Chanel and YSL and am now back to mix of Clinique (subtle) and Benefit (go for it). The Benefit stuff seems to last well and go on well; bit like Mac.

I have only seen the cosmetics here, no bubble bath or anything

Jamantha · 18/05/2007 18:40

LOVE Benefit. Particularly (and I see I'm not the only one) Dr Feelgood, Lemon Aid and Dandelion

catnip · 18/05/2007 18:48

I splashed out a while ago and bought benetint which I love, and thought ooh la lift which I think is rubbish. Unless I'm not applying it right - just gives me white circles under my eyes

Snaf · 18/05/2007 18:55

Lurve Benefit stuff. Favourites are:

Boing concealer - fab stuff, good coverage, easy to blender, longlasting
High Beam - for Kylie cheekbones
Hollywood Glow also great if you have a bit of a tan - glowy and shimmery in a 70s cover girl way (but good, honest!)
The fabulous, versatile Benetint
Bad Girl eyeliner - fab, smudgy, sexy kohl but still longlasting
Dandelion is also lovely (I haven't got any of my own yet - but I nick a mate's supply on a regular basis)

It's makeup that actually has an effect, iykwim, rather than just being colour...

FrannyandZooey · 18/05/2007 18:56

HighBeam oh yes

electra · 18/05/2007 18:57

I'm not too keen on high beam but I like the cheek tint.

Bagpuss30 · 18/05/2007 19:00

Lemonaid and Dandelion here too.

Also have benetint lip balm but only really use it if I want very pinky lips.

Mhamai · 18/05/2007 19:09

I've just bought Play Sticks foundation, haven't tried it yet but looked really good on the sales assistant, flawless type finish.
Also got their Hoola bronzing powder. Looked really really good on the assistant as I said but then again, she's barely a day over 20 if she's that whereas I'm a good few days over 39! We'll see!

CorrieDale · 18/05/2007 19:10

The Georgia powder is lovely - I use it to smooth things over when I'm feeling particularly washed out or overly-pink. No need for foundation so it's super-fast and you don't look overdone.

The benetint is really very pinky - if you have a pinky complexion, it can be a bit much.

Boing is just brilliant.

High beam is great if you have cheekbones to start with...

Jacanne · 18/05/2007 19:20

I got some foundation for my birthday "Some kind of Wonderful" I think it's called. It suits all skin colours and it's a cream that turns to a matt powder - it's fabulous and even suits my pale skin tone. I agree that he Georgia powder is lovely.

LesleyR · 18/05/2007 19:24

lemonaid - makes you look less tired
dandelion/georgia powders - again give you a healthy, less knackered look
boing concealer - industrial strength fab
benetint pocketpal - go easy on the cheeks, works well as lip gloss
non fiction foundation - i put it on with a brush, covers well but looks natural

Can you tell I'm a bit addicted?

MrsDiorKeanuReeves · 18/05/2007 19:26

Has no-one else treid the new cream eye shadows? I loved the old ones they had and was gutted when they went to powder. Was so excited when I heard the creams were coming back and they are in such fab colours. I want all 12!

boomie · 18/05/2007 19:30

Well my "staples" from Benefit and what I always have in my makeup bag are:

Hoola
Lemon Aid
High Beam
Moon Beam
Georgia

I also order direct from Benefit's website in the USA (NOT the UK one) and find it is much cheaper even with the shipping.

Meglet · 18/05/2007 21:04

Lemonaid is the best. Just pat it on and you will gain 10 hours sleep. Great if you can't be arsed with make up normally.

SleepIsForTheWeak · 18/05/2007 21:21

I use the playsticks foundation, has really good coverage and with witch hazel in it, you feel like you are treating your skin too.
Also their benetint is amazing - alas I broke my bottle

brimfull · 18/05/2007 23:28

rush hour -blush and lippy in one, absolutely fantastic

dr feelgood-great under makeup imo, rather than over as it says on the tin

lemonaid-i use on eyelids

suzywong · 19/05/2007 04:20

Well, thanks for all the tips

let me just unpack my gorgepus benefits bag and see what I got ( I got a demo too as the scary Cure looking girl had been replaced)

Dr Feelgood - it really is pretty impressive isn't it?
Some kind-a gorgeous foundation faker
brush to apply it with
Dandelion
Big beautiful eyes contour kit - with 3 shades and some concealer in it
Lemonaid and brush to go with it
Eyebright
Bad gal mascara

that took me up to my budget limit ( I have never spent so mch on makeup in one hit) and I shall go back for Benetint and lipstick in Swoonable

I feel I look well maintianed in stead of rough and on the verge of going to seed, so thanks for all the advice.

oh suzy what a fabulous haul

benefit saved my life, has been making me look human in the 10 wks since DS arrived

suzywong · 19/05/2007 07:46

hello dear
do you think so? I now feel slightly sick at the money I spent on ME ($380) but it was from my own wages what I worked for so that's OK isn't it?

How are things in NZ with you?

OP posts:
Chirpygirl · 19/05/2007 08:57

Wow, great haul!
And I always find that the gorgeous packaging helps me feel a little more glamorous as well...I keep all the boxes and line them up on my dressing table...that's actually pretty sad but I can't bear to chuck them!

FrannyandZooey · 19/05/2007 14:53

Suzy, how marvellous for you (stock phrase for use when I am spitting with )

can I just ask how much $380 is? Yes I do agree it is your own money and your own business, but knowing exactly how much you spent will enable me to go around in a jealous haze for a longer and more focused period

inamuckingfuddle · 19/05/2007 15:19

ooh thanks for the us site tip boomie, have just ordered what would have been £100 worth for $130 including postage

HelloMama · 19/05/2007 16:47

oooh! I have just been so naughty and done a big order from the US site! I have done this before and it is very exciting as the parcel is so beautifully wrapped, plus you get a few free goodies added every time, a catalogue and a hand written invoice with lovely notes reminding you to enjoy your products etc! Just be aware that you will be stung for VAT on delivery of the parcel though, although I think it still works out cheaper than buying from UK.
