Hi,

I'm currently on maternity leave and have no time at all to do hair and make up as you can imagine.

I think I should invest in some skin care products so that at least my skin can look a bit better.

I have no idea where to start so would like to know what you find that works for you or what sort of skin care regime you follow?

I would say I have quite dry skin.

Thanks in advance!

La Roche Posay Toleraine
Simple Toner
Organic, cold pressed Jojoba Oil (it’s not actually an oil but it is a miracle in a bottle)

And that’s it!

I have recently started using Lush 'Mask of Magnanimity' and it's AMAZING. I use minimal make up as it is day to day, but my chin has always been red and been quite spotty recently it has cleared that right up, and my skin just looks healthier and brighter.

Also it smells like after eights so I have to try and not lick it off my face.

Ooooh I will have to get that then!

I'm drying too. I use hylauronic acid for dehydration, the Oridanry Buffet is a good alround serum.
You need
A balm or oil cleanser - body shop chamomile range to both of these. Use the hot cloth routine.
An acid toner, one which does something.
Serum
moisturiser
Possibly an oil, I use Rosehip or Marula oil.
Spf for the day

My skin really likes a face oil. I'm currently using one from Liz Earle but Decleor have a large selection for different skin types. Waitrose do a nice one if you are on a budget too.

purestpetal · 20/05/2018 19:40

I clean my face with jojoba oil.
Then again with the gentlest one from LRP
Once/ twice a week l use lactic acid.
I’m introducing Redermic R in the evenings.
My favourite thing this year ( however) has been the discovery of LRP Cicaplast Baume. It has totally toned down my pink cheeks~ lm using it as my main moisturiser.
In the morning l just use a tiny bit of moisturiser and a mineral SPF.

Wash only with water, and drink plenty of water.

I'm a ponds cold cream convert. Slather it on, brush teeth while it works it's magic, wipe off with a warm flannel. My skin is the best it's been in years! I just use a cheap Nivea moisturiser afterwards.

Bubba1234 · 21/05/2018 13:41

Nivea cheap cream, the cheap 2 pound face masks I just leave it in the bathroom ready to hand and after my shower it’s there looking at me so I stick it on for 20 mins

letiziana · 21/05/2018 14:17

face and body scrub twice a week, body oil or lotion every day.

Korean sheet masks

I have recently started using superdrug pure hydrating serum for day and night and they are lovely. Moisturising without being greasy and feel silky on the skin. It is highly reviewed both on the website and on mumsnet

BagelGoesWalking · 21/05/2018 23:19

Hydrating toners are amazing! Have made the biggest difference to my dry skin. I love this one and also this. Just pat in a few drops and do several layers of it on clean, damp skin. Your skin will feel soft, bouncy and lovely.

Gentle cleansing: if you wear makeup and sunscreen, try oil cleansing. First clean with oil based balm like Body Shop Camomile Balm Cleanser, followed by La Roche Posay Toleriane Dermo Cleanser or Avène Extremely Gentle Cleanser. Any low or non foaming cleanser is good.

Lemond1fficult · 21/05/2018 23:50

I'm interested in hyalauronic acid treatments - are the Nip n Fab ones any good?

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/05/2018 06:55

An led facemask. It’s cleared up all my acne, firmed my skin up and together with my the ordinary skincare got rid of a fine orange peel effect type scarring on my cheeks from an allergic rash 13 years ago. My skin looks much younger now.

I do 10 minutes blue for acne, 20 green to reduce any pigmentation & 20 red for collagen and elastin production.

whymewhyme · 22/05/2018 07:59

Nip and fab pads! All brilliant I love the glycolic ones but the Dragons blood are good as well, I've seen a massive difference in my skin! Also Tryed every eye cream going and the best one for me is no7 advanced eye cream! Brilliant! Also the ordinary retinol x

UpperWallop · 22/05/2018 08:41

Indeed labs retinol.

Agree that LEDs are fabulous for good skin. Fluffy - which one do you use?

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/05/2018 09:10

It’s a beauty star one from Amazon. I had a bad allergic reaction on my face on the Tuesday it was delivered, by the Sunday I could cover them with make up. Before I’d been refusing to leave the house.

I use it 5 days a week.

Rednailsandnaeknickers · 22/05/2018 09:26

Facial Oil, Facial Oil, Facial Oil! I also have dry and sensitive skin and find using an oil at night is the best thing for it. Currently using Tropic Elixir Oil as it's got lots of rosehip oil in it which is good apparently and it absorbs really well.

UpperWallop · 22/05/2018 09:27

I've got an led lamp and it's great but I want to upgrade it. Will have a look, thanks 👍🏼

Lemond1fficult · 22/05/2018 13:04

Thanks why me I'll give em a go. Hopefully they'll revive my withered cheeks! Grin

This was in the M&S beauty advent calendar last year and honestly it is the best thing I have ever used on my skin. It makes it so soft. I only use it once a week and you only need a little bit so it lasts ages

TrueBlue22 · 22/05/2018 13:54

The ordinary hyaluronic acid is the dream for dry skin. And it's not pricey too!

Lemonsmakelemonade · 22/05/2018 16:29

Dermalogica gentle cream exfoliant followed by the hydrating masque. After a facial steam or spin class. Makes my skin glow.
