What do you wear in the office if you don't want a formal jacket and find plain cardigans dull and depressing?

I've recently started a job in an office which is warm enough most of the time for a short sleeved dress or top, but need a layer for when the air con blasts or I nip out for a nicotine break. I don't wear a suit, and don't like blazers or formal jackets. What could I wear that isn't a really boring cardie?

Autumn natural gamine btw for those who believe in such things...

TIA!

Zara have some lovely blazers In at the moment. I bought this one, it looks nice with navy trousers and a plain white t shirt underneath.

I like a cropped cardigan - I think the cropped style is less twin-setty and they go well with a pencil skirt or fitted dress because they don’t ruin the silhouette.I have some Boden cashmere ones from previous seasons but the reviews are crap this season. Also have a couple from Brora but they are spendy

Paperdolly · 16/05/2018 22:20

I've put colourful buttons on my cardi's to 'lift' them and make them different.

Maria1982 · 16/05/2018 22:24

Watching with interest!
Also work in an office and bored stiff of cardigans. In my case, added complication of being large of bust, which makes me v picky about jackets!

mumtobe417 · 16/05/2018 22:46

A kimono type cardi thing? Lighter material and more dressy but not suit like

boomboom12 · 16/05/2018 22:50

any of these?

Kimono jacket is a good shout. A plain black or cream.

Shenanagins · 16/05/2018 22:57

What about this from Zara?

I alternate between
Long length fine cardigans (oasis)
Kimono type jackets (Dorothy Perkins)
Chunky long cardigan (asos)
Jersey blazers

AmethystMoon · 17/05/2018 08:15

Others have beaten me as I was coming on to say Kimono! H&M have had some nice ones in the past. Randomly I have one from Seasalt but not sure they always have them.
Or...I have a cotton fine knit pale gray poncho. Mine is from white company, a few years ago. But I think I may have seen woolovers do similar? Might be wrong and haven’t looked this year.

AllBuggiedOut · 17/05/2018 08:17

OK, a few of you have suggested a kimono jacket, thank you, but bit scared of the idea... Any links to nice ones please?!

Few ideas of different ones here https://m.dorothyperkins.com/search/?currentPage=2&q=Kimono

That first photo is lovely @boomboom12, where is it from?

Might be a curveball but what about a pashmina? Okay you might not wear it into the boardroom or with clients but it's fairly simple and easy to keep a small selection in a drawer to change up your look every day?

LandOfOddSocks · 17/05/2018 12:22

Thanks @boomboom12. I was too slow, it's sold out! Sad

lindyloo57 · 17/05/2018 17:52

are waterfall cardis over?

boomboom12 · 17/05/2018 19:46

Sorry land

CountFosco · 17/05/2018 19:54

are waterfall cardis over?

They are still in if you like the idea of looking like a walking vulva

mickeymacca · 17/05/2018 21:49

Shenanagins · 17/05/2018 22:05

I hang my head in shame!

wrongway · 17/05/2018 22:47

Try Anthropologie. Lots that might suit in jackets and coats section. www.anthropologie.com/en-gb/shop/toril-polka-dot-bomber-jacket?category=jackets-coats&color=066

AllBuggiedOut · 18/05/2018 07:45

Lol Count! Waterfall cardies are properly grim on me.

I quite like that Anthropoliogie one, but it's too pale.

Feel ancient in a pashmina and it would annoy me at my desk.

This one is lovely @wrongway! Thank you.
