Too many chins for the chop?

Acunningruse · 16/05/2018 06:46

Hi
I have (as you can see from the pic) long ish hair with what was a full fringe now more like a side fringe. It's naturally wavy but it's been blow dried straight (ish) here.
I really want to have it cut shorter, it is so long and thick it takes an age just to wash and condition it! Now it's warmer I find myself just typing it up in a bun anyway most of the time so I think why not get it cut shorter?
However I have gained a few pounds recently and can see it in my face which makes me wonder if a bob wouldn't be flattering? I was thinking of a bob which is longer at the front and shorter st the back?
I'm also thinking of changing the colour as it's tending to brassy even though I use the purple shampoo 3 times a week. I love the new rose brown colour that's been said to be the hot colour for 2018 but i am starting to chicken out and my hair appointment is booked for tomorrow!
Any thoughts welcome, thanks

I say go for it - your hair will always grow back! I think it will look lovely 😊. Will take a lot of styling though I should imagine.

Frustratedboarder · 16/05/2018 06:51

I don't know much about the style and beauty section but that haircut looks lovely and you seem to have good skin (whatever that has to do with it, maybe Judy trying to boost your confidence?!) so I say go for it! Can't see how 'too many chins' would affect it tbh!

Argeles · 16/05/2018 07:07

I think it’d really suit you, as would the colour that you’re considering.

You could always not go as short with the style if you’re feeling a little unsure, whilst still having the inverted cut.

ferrier · 16/05/2018 07:10

I think it would really suit you but do not be fooled that it will be lower maintenance than long hair, no matter how thick and how much conditioning it takes. The vast majority of short cuts need styling every morning to get them looking nice. I speak from experience!

Notreallyhappy · 16/05/2018 07:16

Ask your stylist at your salon..if i like a cut and it won't suit or will take some work on keeping it looking good my stylist will tell me or just not cut it x

youvegottobekidding · 16/05/2018 11:26

If you do decide to go for it, show your stylist the picture, so she has a clear understanding of what you want.

IrishElla · 16/05/2018 20:07

I love it and would consider it myself. Would be good to see a picture of it from the front.

Acunningruse · 16/05/2018 21:33

Thanks all, really want to go for it but just read the thread about shorter hair being high maintenance 😬conflicted now!

Hoppinggreen · 16/05/2018 21:36

My hair is similar to that and I am not slim of face ( or anywhere)
I really like it and have had lots of compliments since I had it cut like that. Haven’t found it too high maintenance either

Acunningruse · 16/05/2018 21:38

Oh thank you hopping! What did you ask your hairdresser for? Or did you show her pictures? Thanks!

I wouldn’t call your current hair “long” at all, it’s actually quite a short hairstyle already. I don’t think the short bob style suits anyone (in my opinion) as it is so mumsy and frumpy. Your current hairstyle looks stylish.

DuchyDuke · 16/05/2018 21:42

Short bobs look frumpy on everyone tbh. If you want shorter hair, try going a few inches shorter first. You will be surprised how much difference it could make.

happyasasandboy · 16/05/2018 21:53

I have recently had a similar chop, though not as short as the picture you've chosen.

My hair was down to my bra strap, having previously been a lot longer. It was frizzy and needed straightening after every wash, which took about 45 each time.

I started the Curly Girl conditioner-only washing method a year ago, which drastically improved condition, and then chopped to a long inverted bob a few months ago. The difference the chop made has been amazing! I still straighten (despite following the rest of the Curly Girl method) but it takes 10 mins now, and my hair has shape and is swishy. I think the shorter straightening time is down to it being less frizzy (thank you Curly Girl) as well as much shorter. I rarely wear it tied back unless I am washing the car or cleaning the house, whereas before the chop I wore a bun most days.

It feels much better to wear short hair down each day than long hair tied up. Yes, there are less styling options, but I never did anything except tie it back anyway.

Hoppinggreen · 17/05/2018 08:22

I asked for a textured graduated bob ( oooh, get me!)
I had my colour ( rose gold) put underneath to avoid regrowth

BigGreenOlives · 17/05/2018 08:30

Pample & Duchy. How can you say short hair is frumpy & mumsy? I’d say mid length hair is the dull look - too scared to do anything other than the same as everyone else. Far more interesting to have a proper cut that needs precision than a style reliant on styling tools.

I’m using a forum aimed at parents; I will not use m**sy as an insult.

villageshop · 17/05/2018 08:49

That was me up till a couple of weeks ago. Some days I like it a lot and other days I think it looks very plain. But everyone agrees it makes me look younger, though you look young anyway so that's probably not an issue.

I still pin the front back when I'm doing housework and sometimes miss not being able to sweep it all back into a scrunchie when cleaning the bath, for example. But overall (on a good hair day) I don't regret it.

As for colour, I'm not sure about rose gold. Like you I use the purple shampoo to keep hints of brassiness / ginger at bay and I worry rose gold will fade to pale ginger in no time. Good idea just to have the colour underneath so no regrowth and the fading won't notice.

DuchyDuke · 17/05/2018 10:53

@big I didn’t use mumsy. Also, well taken care of longer hair always looks better in my opinion. More feminine too.

nothingwittyhere · 17/05/2018 11:04

@DuchyDuke: lePamplemousse used "mumsy" and BigGreenOlives was replying to you both. I disagree completely with what you're saying (and agree with BigGreenOlives), but, whatever, chacun son gout.

Hoppinggreen · 17/05/2018 11:25

My highlights are actually blonde with a rose gold wash over them so they fade to blonde
I also sometimes ( at my hairdressers suggestion) add some shop bought pink hair dye to my conditioner to give the blonde bits a pinky tinge

Acunningruse · 17/05/2018 17:04

I'm in the chair ShockI'll update with pic later Smile

Hope you are happy, remember to post a pic Grin

User5trillion · 17/05/2018 18:53

I have loads of chins and a big moon face and I went short, slims my face if anything. I love it but I do have to style it EVERY GODDAMN day to make it nice and I miss just being able to stick it up, but no regrets. Post a pic, love a new do thread! 😁
