It's time to get my milk bottles out god help us

Just seen an ad for Dove gradual tanner.........looks lovely but is it any good.

My skin is pale. I use Rimmel Sunshimmer, which gives a lovely colour, but washes off in the shower.

Would like to try something that builds and stays for a bit longer!

Have used Dove and it’s quite good - I just get a bit paranoid that if I use it Too much I’ll look a bit like I’ve rubbed turmeric on my feet! Then again, I’m ginger so I look a bit weird if I’m not pasty. Good luck...

CaseStudyResearch · 13/05/2018 22:38

Have recommended this a few times recently - Bondi Sands gradual tanner.

arousingcheer · 13/05/2018 22:46

I bought Bondi Sands because it's cruely free but I'm disappointed in both the streaky application and the colour. I'm having to apply it morning and night for two or three days before seeing anything, so if you shower in between applications it's hard to build any colour. It's pretty odour free, which is good.

I like both Dove and Neutrogena though - no streaks, good colour after just one application.

Mymadworld · 13/05/2018 22:49

I use the fair-medium Dove and it's great. First application is barely but just noticeable (takes off the glow) but add another layer day 2 and it's a lovely light golden tan. Remember to scrub knees & heels and moisturise them first as dry bits do go darker.

ClandestineAdulation · 13/05/2018 22:49

I like the Dove one too, and it’s really moisturising!

TheOnlyAletheia · 14/05/2018 07:29

I’ve recently used the St Tropez bronzing water. I didn’t exfoliate or moisturise, I applied it with my hands and I have no streaks. It smelt nice, didn’t leave stains and was good for my pale and freckley complexion.

BaconAndAvocado · 14/05/2018 15:01

I think Dove is probably more within my budget so will give it a try.
Thanks!

I'm after one of these two. My legs are nearly blue.

What happens if you shave your legs though?

Worsethingshappenatsea · 14/05/2018 18:58

I've tried loads and my favourite is Skinny Tan body glow it's lovely. Nice colour and coconut smell can buy online and in Superdrug too. I also recommend L'Oréal sublime gradual tanner too which is cheaper and gives nice even colour .

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 14/05/2018 19:09

Palmers cocoa butter gradual tan is the business. Doesn't even smell too bad & gives a lovely even natural colour.

CremeDeSudo · 14/05/2018 20:22

I've just bought the Dove one off the back of MN recommendations as it was on offer in Boots. First application looked ok, bit orange perhaps (am pale). The next shower I had made it all streaky though and looked shit. I've since scrubbed that off and tried again and looks a bit better now somehow. Hard to get it to look ok round your feet though. Very obviously not a natural tan!

ImagineAllThePeople1 · 14/05/2018 20:35

Rimmel do a sunshimmer gradual which is quite nice. You still get the normal instant colour but when you wash it off your left with a light tan underneath.
St tropez is nice as well.

GetTaeBed · 14/05/2018 21:36

I like the Dove one but find the musty smell stays for days and even after showering i smell of fake tan.

Loonoon · 14/05/2018 22:42

Garnier Body Gradual Tan, the deep shade. Even though I have classic Irish bluey white skin (likemthe underbelly of a very non-Irish snake) I find a couple of days of the deep shade gives me a very convincing toasty glow and I actually quite like the smell. It's quite light and fruity.

SayImADreamer · 16/05/2018 22:58

@keeponkeepinon I don't have the answer to your question but can I ask does the Bondi sands one smell? I've tried dove and l'oreal and I just smell of fake tan which I hate

I’m using skinny tan body glow, and I find it’s building a nice colour more quickly than others I’ve used in the past. Doesn’t seem to streak, it’s my favourite of all that I’ve tried. I have used dove before, but found it a bit too subtle. Or maybe I’m too impatient!

Ferrero83 · 21/05/2018 13:34

I've just started using the St Tropez one in medium/dark and been complimented on it being a lovely colour. I'm pale and only put it on twice a week so it looks natural and gives me the confidence to get my blue legs out. It was buy 1 get 1 half price in Superdrug last week too so makes it a bit better value.

Trialsmum · 21/05/2018 14:30

My advice is don’t bother with a gradual tanner. You have to apply it all the time and it just keeps getting darker and darker until it starts rubbing off! Plus you have to apply it every day so are always greasy and smell of fake tan. The best and cheapest fake tan it St Moritz. If you buy the fast tan one, you can put it on in the evening for 1,2 or 3 hours (I’m pale and do 2 for a decent tan) then wash it off so you have more control over how dark you end up.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 21/05/2018 16:12

@keeponkeepinon the first time I used Bondi Sands gradual tan I didn't see any colour at all the next day. I needed to read the label to make sure I had bought the gradual tan and not a moisturiser or something. I started using it every day (twice a day at first) and you can eventually get some colour but with showering and everything it's kind of a losing battle. I need to apply it thickly to see anything, so there was some streaking.

I planned to go back to Neutrogena Build a Tan (perfect colour, no streaking) but I can't find it anywhere online and fear it's been discontinued.
