How to Look Expensive (in the summer)

Please can we resurrect my favourite EVER thread, but with a summer twist?

I think I'm pretty stylish in cooler weather but struggle in the heat.

I know the usual drill ..natural fabrics, linen cotton silk in neutral colours. Light tan courtesy of gradual tanner. Tan real leather sandals. Straw or heavy cotton beach bag. No gaudy colours or prints. No bra strap showing under vests.

But I still feel I don't look as good as I could if I tried a bit harder! I get freckly and I think that stops me looking expensive!

Please tell me your tips and stories of fab expensive looking stylish people you've seen on holiday

Just found it on Boden!

LuxuryWoman2017 · 11/06/2018 10:41

I wish I felt comfortable in dresses but I just don't. I'm struggling to find glam sandals that don't make my feet hurt or look huge.

Bag arrived and I'm very happy with it. Still searching for tummy hiding tops.

Basically want to look like a real house-wife of Beverley Hills on a small budget Grin glam woman of a certain age.

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 11/06/2018 10:46

freckles are fine.

Tattoos 100% look terrible. I know this isn't popular to say, but they don't make you look classy.

Bright colours can be classy. Doesn't always have to be classic palate.

bzzbeebzz · 11/06/2018 11:23

That polka dot dress is just lovely. Not my colour but I’d be tempted if they did it in a cooler shade.

BanburyBun · 11/06/2018 12:19

This is a great thread. Delurking to ask about sandals....I need something a bit smarter than Birkies but that will also be comfortable to walk in - has anyone seen these or tried them on? Just wondering if the leather is soft or would dig in....TIA

Banbury I don't have those ones, but my Gabor wedges from a sale a few years ago are so, so comfy

quirkychick · 11/06/2018 13:01

It does, of course, depend on the pattern and what suits you. That dress is lovely. I have worn florals in the past, but more oriental prints or with a limited palette. British shops in the summer do seem to go all out bright chintzy florals, which can be hard to pull off!

Dancergirl · 11/06/2018 14:16

landofoddsocks Modalu bag has arrived in yellow and I love it! Much more practical than the Karen Millen one which I will return. Thanks for sharing Smile

CoffeeOrSleep · 11/06/2018 14:38

BanburyBun - I had a look at those shoes today actually - they looked pretty ugly up close, and the leather didn't feel like it would be comfy, sorry!

BanburyBun · 11/06/2018 14:51

Thanks Coffee , on with the search.....

diamondsandrose · 11/06/2018 15:13

Try Kurt Geiger for the wedges, they have loads just now of varying heights and styles

Gah, your outfit sounds lovely!

CoffeeOrSleep · 11/06/2018 17:15

Can I have opinions on these wedges please?

Gah81 · 11/06/2018 17:51

Oops, glad you found the dress bit.

And bzz they do it in a very nice shade of blue! It is the antonia wrap dress at Boden (can't seem to link to it on my phone).

Gah81 · 11/06/2018 17:51

And thank you Maybe :)

Fresta · 11/06/2018 18:47

I have just bought these sandals- in both colours!!! They are absolutely gorgeous, a great fit and very chic in my eyes. www.johnlewis.com/modern-rarity-kalara-flatform-sandals/natural-suede/p3444500

Fresta · 11/06/2018 18:50

Banbury Those sandals look comfy but I don't really like them to be honest- they look a bit too 'middle aged'.

Fresta · 11/06/2018 18:51

Coffee, those are very nice.

BitOutOfPractice · 11/06/2018 19:25

Fresta a agree those sandals are very chic and look comfortable because the deference between front and back is actually very slight

I love the floppy hat @Kokoloco. I always wear those on holiday. Great for reading on the beach as well as wandering around.

I'm wearing broad striped wide legged trousers tonight. I felt a bit clownish but DP says they look good

LandOfOddSocks · 11/06/2018 20:53

It's too patterned for my taste, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't work on you!

LandOfOddSocks · 11/06/2018 20:55

@BitOutOfPractice clownish Shock Terrifying.

Just don't wear them with large, red boots. Grin
